Want to Catch Your Dreams....

Hello everyone.  Joyce here, hoping to inspire you to create your own dream catcher too.  I've been seeing a lot of reference to dream catchers in movies, books, and while surfing the net, and I found the idea fascinating.  Of course, if you're like me, once you've been bitten by the inspiration bug, you just have to give a try and see what comes of it.

I found an ugly journal in a bargain bin at a craft store and applied gesso to the cover. Once the gesso dried, I then started applying mists, paints, fusible webbing and stamps to create an earthy looking cover to go with the theme of the dream catcher.  The Floral Clock just so happened to be the perfect size for the journal and here's what I did to create a dream catcher out of it. 

 

1.Cut out the floral circular portion of the clock and apply a layer of gesso over the entire chipboard, allow to dry.

2.Spray Expresso Adirondak over a few parts of the chipboard, set to dry.

3. Spray Shimmerz Sea Foam over other areas of the chipboard that were not covered with the Expresso Adirondak spray, set to dry.

4. Apply antique gold Rub’N Buff over a few areas of the chipboard.

5. Glue a piece of netting behind your chipboard, set to dry.

6. Apply glitter and micro beads on various parts of the chipboard with glue.

7. Add feathers, shells and beads to beautify your dream catcher.

Caution: The Rub’N Buff product is flammable so be careful when you’re using your heat gun.

Inside of the cover of the journal:  The clock face was treated with white crackle paint,  and sprayed with the same mists as was used on the circular part of the chipboard. A brown watercolor pencil was used in the small crevices.  Add some Glimmer Glam sparingly on top of the clock and set to dry.

Easy, right?

Here's another project featuring the Brigitte Butterfly Chipboard.

One of the Brigitte Butterfly chipboards was immersed in water to break down the chipboard and split in two. One-half of the chippie was set aside to dry flat, and the other was treated with a little fabric stiffener, gently folded over (do not crease) and set on a lid on a bowl and allowed to dry. Apply tacky glue with your fingers over the chippies sparingly (don’t cover up the entire chipboard) and sprinkle some Stampendous Enamel Embossing powder over them. Heat set the embossing powder with your heat gun, and watch the lacy appearance emerge from the embossing powder. Apply some color glaze paint over the embossing treatment sparingly. The same application was applied to the one of the Blue Fern Studios nesting circle chipboard as well. I used a Design Honey Sketch on this layout.

Two projects with Irina Gerschuk

Hi there my dear scrappy friends))))

It's Irina with you today. And I'd like to share with you my two new projects.

First one is a LO. On the photo is my little sister. Well, maybe not so little any more... She is almost 12 years old now and has her own opinion about everything)))) For example not long ago she decided not to photo ever again. Thanks the Universe, Alexandra loves scrapbooking! So after all she agreed to stand in front of my camera for a few minutes)))

And here are some close-ups:
I mixed six different kinds of BFS chippies in this LO. Different designs perfectly match and complement each other! And it was so much fun to play with them)))

I used Blue Fern Frame as a mask here. It looks amazing!

The designs of some of the chippies are so delicate that it was not hard to gave them more dimension by bending them and passing between other embellishments:

It took quite a time to realize how to finish the composition on the top. But after all I saw a swirly heart from the Heart Set and took a little piece from it that matched all the flourishes.

All the BFS chippies I covered with white embossing powder and than added a little bit of bronze emboss powder as a second layer. I was trying to achieve some shabby effect (as an old paint or rust).

Some Pages from Irene Tan

Hello everyone! It's Irene here! Today I would like to share with you all some of my February projects using Blue Fern Studios chipboard pieces. First up, is a layout titled "Live In Fairytale".



On this layout, I've used a Blue Fern Frame.

I've first cut the frame into two parts and painted the frame with some paints. Later, I've tied the frame together again using some twine and string of pearls to create the swing look.

 My second project is an Art Journal page titled "Love"

On this page, I've used a piece from the Heart Set chipboard.

I've painted the chipboard with some thick dimensional paint and while it is still wet, I've sprinkled it with some micro beads. Lightly pat the micro beads into the dimensional paint to make sure it sticks.

A Couple of Layouts with Mona Pendleton

Hi there Blue Fern Studios fans! It's Mona Pendleton here today to share a few layouts I created using the following beautiful Blue Fern Studios chipboard pieces: Nested Circles, Brigitte Butterflies and a Blue Fern Frame.

First up is a layout featuring a photo of sweet daughter and step son that was taken nearly 10 years ago along with a beautiful Brigitte Butterfly and a trio of Nested Circles.

I applied some embossing enamel to each of the pieces of chipboard. What's not to love about the beautiful design of all the butterflies included in the Brigitte Butterfly Set?!

My second layout features a photo of my dear husband and step children along with another beautiful Brigette Butterfly and a gorgeous ornate Blue Fern Frame.

The Blue Fern Frame is FULL of so much detail, I simply applied a coat of enamel, adhered a few embellishments then topped it off the layout with a pretty golden embossed Brigette Butterfly.

Today's Feature: The Tuscan Window and the Floral Wreath

Hello.  Jennifer Snyder here to show you how I used Blue Fern this month.

Window to the Garden:
This was created using the Blue Fern Studios Tuscan Window as well as the packaging. Yes, I used the Blue Fern product packaging for the background paper and in the clustering.

As you can see, the added bonus with Blue Fern is that the packaging is as elegant as the chipboard that comes inside.  It's just begging to be used as well.   I know many of the other designers have showcased both product and packaging in their creations.  You can find them in the Blue Fern Gallery.

My photo image is from Magic Moonlight Free Images and is part of a collage that I cut up.
I wanted to keep this light and airy as if looking out into an open garden.  To help create this effect, I used some moulding paste and  a mask template, then topped with some mist.

I kept my chipboard very clean with  just a few layers of acrylic paint and some glitter glue which is not all that apparent here.  I realize my window frame is upside-down.  I did this because I knew that packaging and clustering would cover up the delicate beautiful scroll work on the chipboard window frame if I left it as designed.

Besides, chipboard is meant to be adjusted to make it work for you.  It's always wonderful right out of the package, but sometimes your "vision" for your project means cutting, flipping and re-positioning.  No guilt - just make it work for you.

This is the Tuscan Window #074752.  Very unique  design.

The Floral Wreath of  Love:
February is the month of love so I decided to keep with the theme once I saw this darling angel postcard.   My inspiration for the colors of the chipboard frame came from the delicate colors in the vintage postcard.

Here is how I created this 3D wreath:

Step 1. Spray the Blue Fern Chipboard with water lightly in selected areas. 

Step 2.  Gently lift the wet chipboard layers up and bend/twist or pinch with your finger tips. Dry with heat gun.

Step 3.  Peel only a few layers from selected flowers, turn and glue back on top of flower in a different direction, giving more volume and definition to the various flowers.

Step 4.  Pinch and bend the leaves.  Dry with heat gun to firm and strengthen.

Step 5.  Paint chipboard with gesso to seal it and prep it for your finishing acrylic paint topcoat.  I also painted the edges.

Step 6. The fun part...decorate as desired.

In this piece, I painted my altered chipboard flowers a buttercream yellow and a pale soft peach/pink.  I painted the leaves willow green and added veins in the leaves with my Tim Holtz distress marker.  To finish them, I stamped some cursive print onto the leaves..

I also topped some of the chipboard with flowers and floral berries.

The ZVA flourish adds a nice accent.

I added angel wings made from stamping a piece of vellum paper and then embossing with clear embossing powder.  After it was cool, I cut it out and ran some ink over the embossing to tint it a bit - giving it a glowing effect.

This just shows the dimension of the chipboard on my page as a result of the water alterations.
