Lucky Decor Panel

Hello everyone, welcome to the Blue Fern Studios Blog, I am Aida from @aidaville back again with another canvas panel. What inspires you ? There are times when I have no idea what to make and going through beautiful papers or embellishments always helps. As I picked up the Happy Accident printed chipboard, immediately the pretty Blue flower leapt out at me and together with the work Lucky left over from the Wanderlust Chipboard, inspiration sparked and this was the result.

Blue Fern Studios supplies used are :
Lace no.1  |  Natural Cotton Twine
Papers : Happy Accident #2 - Faux   |   Remnants - Devonshire
Printed Chipboard : Wanderlust  |  Happy Accident
Chipboard : Fall Foliage  |  Blossom Branches
Others :
7 x 9 Flat Back Canvas Panel
Acrylic paints  |  Crayons | Matte Multi Medium  | Texture Crackle Paste | Grit Paste  |  Shimmer Glaze
Fern die-cuts  |  Thin strip of Glitter paper  |  Phrases Sticker.

Here's how to begin :
Start by painting and texturing the canvas panel. The center was finished darker blue/green to create a shadow for the focal elements and edges were left much lighter for contrast.

Paint the chipboard leaves with a pale blue acrylic paint and add a thin layer of Grit Paste. Once dry, paint a thin coat of shimmer glaze.

Die-cut a few fern fronds as fillers using a light paper.

I trimmed the base paper 4 x 6" and distressed the edges. This was popped up on a large foam sheet square 1/4" thickness and adhered to the center of the panel.

Smaller strips of paper were layered, and on top of that, to the right and left, the scallop printed chipboard from the Wanderlust collection was stuck down.

Adhere the painted chipboard leaves securely to the base, and then  Lace no.1.

Position the Blue Flower printed chipboard over the lace, use a bit of strong glue to make sure it's adhered well.

Here you can see how the pretty Lace is layered under the focal chipboard.

Choose your sticker or a stamped phrase and add it to the lower half of the Blue Flower chipboard. A narrow strip of pale gold glitter paper ensures the phrase is highlighted and not get lost in the overall design.

The word Lucky was adhered to a folded piece of paper tied with natural twine.

The delicate Fern fronds fill out the edges of the panel for a light, airy dimension.
This was a lovely piece to work on with the pretty colours and the wonderful texture of the canvas. It makes you want to touch and feel the layers !

Thank you for coming by and I hope this panel will jumpstart your own creative process.

See you soon !! Aida  @aidaville

Layered Layout - Places to Go

Hello everyone, it's Aida here from @aidaville and I hope you're having a good start to this month of March !

I'm sharing a layout of my older daughter who faced lots of challenges getting to where is is today. A musician, committed animal activist, a full scholarship Graduate and currently a Teaching Assistant at the University while she completes her Masters in Political Science. The title "I've got places to go and people to see" perfectly sums up the full life she worked hard to carve out.

The Blue Fern Studios products used are :
Patterned Papers :
Heartland - XOXO | Remnants - Westfield | Happy Accidents 2 - Tonic
Lace no. 5
Wanderlust Printed Chipboard
Chipboard - Widgets
Flowers : Happy Blossoms | Garden Blooms
Embossing Powder : Silver Bells
Others : 8 x 10" flat backed canvas.

I love the Wanderlust Printed Chipboard as it has some thickness to it for creating layers and edging the chipboards with contrasting acrylic paint, some Distress inking gives it depth. As you can see the photo was adhered inside the oval frame for prominence and the other chipboard pieces were added around it

Creating is so much easier, and fun when chipboard pieces have sentiments which can be used as titles like this one above !

Here is a closer look at the layers.

Very often lace is soft and may require a thin layer of transparent Gesso, stiffening them to make for easier handling. The Lace no.5 was trimmed into smaller manageable pieces, then inserted in between the flowers and chipboard and glued securely.
Silver Bells Embossing powder gave the chipboard Widgets interesting texture and the pieces were given a light daub of grey acrylic paint on the edges for more dimension.

Floral embellishments really do complete a layout and it looks so pretty ! For a shabby feel, I gently coated the blooms with thinned down white gesso.

I hope this layered layout has given you interesting ideas and shown how to create with Blue Fern Studios. Thank you for coming by,  have a happy, create-ful Sunday !

August Inspiration - Megan Gourlay

Hi Everyone :)

Today I have 3 projects to share with you, one using the Wanderlust Collection and the other using the In the Mood collection.

My first project is a layout that uses lots of layers of printed and altered chipboard. My base piece of paper is Ocean Voyage.  Ive used two different stencils with texture paste and watered down different paint colours for added colour.  Some random stamping using archival ink over the background finished my base layer.

My Beaded Circles chipboard has simply been painted, and then added some muslin this has also been coloured to match.  My two chipboard titles have been embossed with Wheat, and a few seedlings sprinkled around finished my layout.

My next project is in two parts, a little luggage trunk and a mini album.  The mini album is tiny, and fits 3x4 photos.  Both projects use In the Mood papers and printed chipboard.  This would make a fab wedding gift, or valentines day present don't you think?!

The I Love You printed chipboard was the perfect size for the front cover of my album, and because both projects are tiny, the cover needed to be flat to allow it fit in the trunk.

The mini album has a 1.75" spine with the binding being able to hold two 'signatures' - those two signatures contain a belly band, accordion fold page and a pocket.  The entire album holds 10 photos with room for journalling.

Ive used Lace 10 - the pink piece - to decorate the inside, and hide the prongs of the brads where they attach to the lid.

The detail on the lid is created by layering three layers of printed chipboard pieces.  The top piece, the heart, I have painted and while still wet applied White Gold Glitter - this just might be my favourite one, its gorgeous!

The inside front cover and the belly band on the left, both decorated with printed chipboard pieces - a great way to add dimension but which keeps it flat also.

Here I have a flap decorated with another printed chipboard piece, that ties the accordion fold piece all together, and a simple pocket page on the left.

The page on the left is a simple pocket that I have used to tuck some journalling in.  This is decorated by layering three of the triangles that come in the printed chipboard set.  The heart on the back cover is also from this set.

July Inspiration with Debbie Burns

Hi everyone!  Can't believe it's July already. The months just seem to fly by in a flash. Hope you are enjoying your summer.   I have 3 layouts to share with you today featuring the Tattered Walls and Wanderlust collections.  Let's start with the newest of the collections, Tattered Walls.  I love how versatile this collection is.  I created one layout with a current photo and another with a treasured family vintage photo.

"Cherish"
I used Carport (side B) for the background, and applied some pearl bordeaux mist and grey ink splatters.

I sprayed pieces from Lace 4 with a Precious Stone mist.  Beneath the picture I placed the Embellished Frame chipboard, embossed with Iris embossing powder.

I used the Precious Stone Mist on some lilies from Dark Tropic Lilies.  Tucked beneath the dark lilies I placed roses from Courtship Roses and some light purple lilies from Spring Lilies.  Red Grape and Lavender Seedlings were applied randomly on the flowers and around the photo.

Placed beneath the photo I added some fussy cut flowers from the Carolina Room Paper.  The title "Cherish" is from the Remnants printed chipboard.

"Memories"
The background paper is The Sun Room.  I applied some masking and paint splatters.  Layering beneath the photo is from The Library, The Maids Room and pieces from the Ephemera packet.  I placed the Stone Cottage chipboard beneath the photo and left it untreated.

Lots of flowers from Spring Lilies, Wanderlust Lilies, Wanderlust Vines and Moody Blooms.  I added some Dijon Glitter to the centers of the butterflies and art stones and Lemonade Seedlings on the flowers.

Another closeup of the flowers.

The title is untreated.  Love how it blends with the papers and embellishments.

"Calm"
My final layout features the Wanderlust Collection.  I used Ocean Voyage (Side B) for the background.    For layering beneath the photo l used Souvenir (Side B).  I used the Tattered Newsprint Stamp and added some paint spatters in various colors.

Beneath the layering I used the Quatrefoil Panel chipboard which I treated with some brown stain. I added some Gold Nugget and Aquamarine Seedlings.

Flowers are from  Wanderlust Lilies, Tranquil Blooms and Memories Blooms.  The Leafy Twig chipboard was embossed with Taupe embossing powder.

Here I've used a round calendar piece from The Wanderlust Printed Chipboard.  The doily was cut from Seascape Side B. The leaves are from the Forest Branch Chipboard.  I stained them brown and added some gold wax.

The title was stained brown .

May Inspiration by Debbie Burns

Hi everyone!  Debbie here with today to share my May projects.  I have three layouts using various Blue Fern Studios papers and products.

"Delightful"
I used three paper collections when creating this layout, Happy Accident, Garden Life and Heartland.  The background paper Fortuity is from Happy Accident.  I did some light masking and misting on the background.  I built up layers under the photo using additional papers from Happy Accident, Fluke, Lucky, Quirk and Windfall.  I did a lot of fussy cutting from In Bloom and Wallflower from Garden Life, and Bicycle for two and Love Song Serenade from Heartland.

Lots of beautiful flowers including Chesterville Florals, Apricot Blooms, Attic Charm Daisies and Moody Blooms.  I embossed the chipboard piece under the photo with my favorite Blue Fern Embossing Powder, Ivory and used a mixture of Sage, Green Ivory and Ivory on the leaves.

More layering under the photo with flowers cut from Garden Life and Heartland papers.

The chipboard title was covered with some pink spray and ink.  To the left of the title you can see more flowers that I fussy cut.

My next two layouts feature papers from the Wanderlust collection.

"Capture The Moment"
I used the Ocean Voyage paper for my background.   I used Calling Cards and Souvenir to build up layers under the photo of my mom and her family out on the lake.  I stamped with Tattered Newsprint, Grungy Grid and Forever stamps.  I applied some light brown misting.

In this picture as well as the one below you can see the Wanderlust Lilies.  I applied some Twig and Gold Nugget Seedlings to the lilies as well as the background.

The chipboard pieces on each side of the photo were embossed with Taupe powder.

The title was also embossed with Taupe Embossing Powder.

"Destination Unknown"
I used side B from the Memento paper for the background.  I applied some misting and stamping with the Tattered Newsprint stamp.   Next I used stencils and applied some soft mat gel and embossed with Taupe and Azure embossing powders.  I built up layers under the photo using Wanderlust Petites, Souvenir and Calling Cards.  This lovely lady was my grandmother.

I altered the Wanderlust Lilies with some white gold paste and a light misting.   I misted  the Heartland Blossom with a touch of gold.

I applied some Gold Nugget and Twig Seedlings to the flowers and background.

Under the photo I used a piece from the Wanderlust Printed Chipboard.

The title came from the Calling Cards paper.
