Ombre Dreams by Kim Price

Hello everyone! I'm so happy to be back sharing a few of my latest creations for Blue Fern Studios after my short break.

Today I want to share a few projects I have created using the Ombre Dreams collection along with some amazing chipboard shapes and sentiments.

I just love the combination of blue and yellow and for my first project today I've used these colors together for a soft romantic look. I've used a much treasured photograph of my youngest daughter when she was a little girl along with the "adore" sentiment from the Adore, Love, Cherish pack as my title. To decorate this piece I have simply applied a coat of gesso prior to applying a watercolor wash, then simply outlined each letter using a fine permanent marker to make it stand out from the rest of the layout.

I've layered together Jasmine Collage, a stem from the Pretty Weeds pack and Notebook Edges - all decorated with watercolors for that soft, subtle finish.

Combine these with Ginger's Dream and Susan's Dream patterned papers from the Ombre Dreams collection and the result is a lovely romantic layout.

Blue Fern Studios chipboard: Adore, Love, Cherish pack, Jasmine Collage, Pretty Weeds and Notebook Edges.

For my second project today I chosen to go with the pink shades again from Ombre Dreams.

I've used Ombre Dreams Shannon's Dream patterned paper as the base to my layout and featuring the small Circle Flourish chipboard. I've colored this piece using watercolors to coordinate with the color scheme in my project, adding lots of paper flowers to really set that frame off.

The final touch to this project is my title Angel Eyes found in the Spiritually Speaking pack.

Here's a closer look at the watercolor effect on my chipboard title I've been loving to use so much lately.

...and a closer look at the flourish detail as well.

September Sketch with Jelissa and a Start to Finish Video

Hello there friends!

We're in September, and how fast time has past! Today I'm sharing with you my take on Blue Fern Studios' September sketch challenge as part of my video education post.

Here is the wonderful sketch by Michelle:

And my interpretation of it:

That's my cat again as I realised I havn't scrapped much photos of my pets. I have lots of my children though and to many, they are one and the same. I've used the beautiful papers from Ombre Dreams, as well as some lovely chipboards like the Jeweled Frame, Framed Trinkets, a corner from the Rose Frame and a piece of the Lace Rounds.

Some closeups:

Here's the video of how I put this page together, on the Blue Fern Studios Youtube channel.

'Delight' by Lisa Griffith

Hello Blue Fern Studios friends!

I hope you are all having a wonderful week so far....it's my turn to share my projects with you today.
My first project is a layout called.....

'Delight'

Some of my all-time favorite designs are the nature inspired sprigs and leaves like the 'Spring Branch' I used here. I also used a piece of the 'Tattered Butterflies' (another favorite!). I painted them white and then splashed them with some of the yellow and green watercolor paints that I used on my layout.

Here are a few close ups....

I used a piece of the beautiful paper called 'Susan's Dream' for my base paper with lots of
layers and masking.

My second project is a tag I created using a piece of 'Shannon's Dream'.

I started by using a mask with heavy gesso, added a piece of the 'Layering Stems', and then added some purple ink and some stamping in the background. Then I layered on some flowers and another piece of 'Tattered Butterflies'.

Thanks for looking!
Until next time,
Lisa xo

Jackie's August Creations

Hello Blue Fern Fans! Jackie with you today to share my August creations with you.

We are experiencing an amazing summer here on the West Coast of Canada, and the long, hot, sunny days, and the sunshine and blue skies inspired the colours for this first layout.

One of the things I love about Blue Fern's panels is the ability to cut them apart into pieces that I can spread throughout my layouts. For this layout I started with the Number Grid Small, which I primed with Gelatos then coloured randomly in blue, yellow and mint green, and cut apart into one big piece to back my photo and two smaller pieces for my corners.

These little bits look good embellished with flowers or just on their own.

On both of my layouts this month I've layered on several layers of chipboard. Because chipboard is so lightweight and can be altered in so many ways, it is easy to make a striking composition using several different pieces. On top of the Number Grid I placed some of the Techno rings. To get the water-stained effect, I first sprayed the rings with a couple colours of brown mists, then stamped overtop with a number stamp.

For my last layer, the title, I cut one of the 3s out of the Number Grid and cut the "Boys" from the Boys Will Be Boys chippy.

My second layout has a softer palette, inspired by the colours in my photo.

I started by adding some texture to the background inspired by the printed images on the paper with paint, texture paste and stamping. I love how multilayered the images on the papers are - it makes it so easy to add custom background work.

For this layout I also layered multiple chippies. The top layer is the word "Perky" from The Optimist Words set, which I treated simply with green chalk ink.

The next layer is the Spring Branch, which I painted with several colours of chalk ink to create dimension for the bark and leaves before adding a couple of flowers.

My last layer is the Floral Clock. I fussy cut the "Timeless Beauty" section from a second sheet of Timeless paper, and used the clock hands from the Floral Clock to top it off. The Floral Clock itself is behind the paper, providing an ornate frame.

To add a little dimension to the Floral Clock, I first dry embossed it, then painted it with several colours of metallic paint.

Video Tutorial with Adrienne Ford

Hello There! My Name is Adrienne Ford and I am thrilled to join the Blue Fern Studios Video Education Team and the Blue Fern Family! I love working with chipboard and finding new and exciting ways to alter it. I cannot wait to share my ideas with you. But before I do that, let me tell you a little about myself.

A little bit about me; My scrapping/crafting journey began 4 years ago, by means of some stickers and a paper trimmer. If I could describe my work in one word it would be "refined." I LOVE attention to detail and treat my projects like a puzzle with lots complex and unique pieces. I love that I have found myself and my place in this industry and feel at home with Mixed Media and lots of yummy art mediums!

Through lots of trial and error, I have come to find that I use my fingers more than a brush and I might do things that are a bit unconventional- things that would make Monet roll over in his grave. :) But even though there is paint splattered on the wall and some in even my hair, crafting has been one of the best things that has happened to me- I have had so much creative fun, and that's all that matters right?!

I have a wonderful husband and two young children, which you will get to know in the future. In my spare time I enjoy binge watching Netflix shows, relaxing, and of course creating! I also am on the Prima Marketing Design Team and am a Live with Prima Educator.

I hope that I can be an inspiration to you and take some of the guess work out of crafting, so that all you have to do is enjoy creating something beautiful!

You can check out my blog at
bry-and-i.blogspot.com

So, lets get right to it, shall we?! I have a video for you today sharing a couple of different chipboard pieces. When creating with chipboard, I always look at my pieces and see what might work well together. I have this photo of myself that I thought would work well with the BFS "Brown Eyed Girl" piece. I would incorporate the bubbles into the overall theme, by bringing focus to the eye and the bubbles by placing it directly over my eye in the photo. I adding a little bit of embellishing, and I decided to try something and created a headdress out of the chipboard and embellishments.

And some close ups.....

Bright and Bold by Jackie Clark

Hello Blue Fern fans! Jackie with you here today, taking a break from our family's seaside summer vacation to share my July, summer-inspired projects. I have two very different projects for you today; the first light, airy and summery, and the second darker and more sultry, like those warm summer nights.

Sometimes you see a piece of chipboard, and a project starts to take shape in your mind. That's what happened for me with the Butterfly Grid. I saw it, and a project started to evolve. I knew that I wanted to pair it with the Butterfly Kisses title and the Tattered Butterflies, and my layout grew out of that.

One of the glorious things about the Blue Fern Studios panels is the ability to cut them apart and use them in whatever way best suits your project. I cut mine into the big piece on the left and the smaller piece on the right, and have some leftover for another project. I primed the whole thing with gesso, and then set about colouring the butterflies with shimmery watercolour paints.

For the grid piece on the right I added one of the Tattered Butterflies to coordinate with the butterflies in the Butterfly Grid.

For the Butterfly Kisses title piece I sprinkled on embossing powders in pink, blue and yellow randomly and heat set them.

The colours of the Ombre Dreams papers inspired my colour choices, and I loaded on media in the background to create a fun, sunny layout.

- Ombre Dreams: Susan's Dream, Ginger's Dream
- Chipboard: Butterfly Grid, Butterfly Kisses, Tattered Butterflies

My second layout has a darker colour scheme, but it still evokes summery memories for me, as the picture was taken on my honeymoon, during a very hot summer in Bordeaux - that's my (then) new husband's hand holding the wineglass; hard to believe it's been 11 years!

Although the picture is anything but industrial in nature, the Industrial Corner and Working Parts chippies just seemed like a natural fit. For some reason I pictured them a deep, dark red, but I didn't have a red embossing powder. Not to worry, I used a red acrylic glaze, and added clear embossing powder overtop while it was still wet and heat set it. I then added embossing ink randomly throughout and added both gold and a silver/black embossing powder.

Here's a look at one of the finished pieces.

Thank you so much for stopping in to view my projects today! We love to see what you create with Blue Fern Studios products, so be sure to keep posting your creations to our Facebook page and our Gallery.

Hello everyone, today I'm sharing a few tags with you.  The BFS Roman Clock Set comes in three sizes in one package.  The smallest of the three is just perfect for a tag or card. Here the clock looks a little weathered with some molding paste applied around the circumference of the clock. I am already looking forward to using the remaining two clock chipboard pieces on future creations.

The last tag was created using the Juliana’s Dream page from the Ombre Dream paper collection and one of the Layering Stems chipboard collection. Here a little textured product was applied on top of the chipboard and then misted and painted.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting us, and remember there’s still time to submit your take on the July Sketch Challenge.  Here’s my take on the sketch using the Susan's Dreams paper from the Ombre Collection....the perfect pattern placement that is made a part of the paper did all the work for me:
