It feels like Spring! with Sandi Clarkson

This month I'm focusing on Courtship Lane!

"Today"

I've been wanting to scrap this photo for a while even though it's not the best quality.  This sweet little family is expecting twin boys any day! Anyway, this Courtship Parkway paper seemed perfect for an outdoor family photo. Lots of earth tones mixed in with a pinch of purple.
I prepared my background with gesso, stenciling and stamping with the Halftone and the Photography stamps.

Next, I prepared my chipboard and decided to have fun with color this time around. The Seasonal Wildflowers piece is a combination of Sage and Lucky Embossing Powders. Then it was dabbed with gesso. My Graduated Circle piece is just one of this great set of circles, lots for your money! It was prepared with gesso, gelato and Cotton Candy Embossing Powder  .. done randomly.

This is also a good time to point out the new Flowers! Yes, there are coordinating flowers for the Courtship Lane collection, blooms and roses.  I've added a touch of yellow to the white and purple flower and then gessoed all of them. Loving the yellow I added to that purple rose! Kicked it up a notch!

The Today title is from the Today, Tomorrow, Yesterday set and was prepared with gesso, gelato and Honey Embossing Powder. I made the heart and bow portion of the Winter Page Dangle the same as the title and circle chips.

Bits of Honey are left natural and lightly touched with gesso.

Just another great shot of the new Roses and Blooms. (The peach one is from my stash.)

I threw this photo in because you can clearly see the Halftone stamping and you get to see the new flowers one more time.

"Happy"

I was going to save this sweet layout for next month but I decided to hold another completed project and replace it with this one! For once, my post will have 3 layouts using one paper collection!

I prepared my background (Royal Street) with clear gesso and then built layers with stenciling, gesso and stamping with the Garden Frolic, Love Story 2 and the Photography stamps.

I love this sweet photo of a couple of the grandkids. So precious! For photo mat layers I've used the Courtship Lane Calling Cards, and both sides of West Plaza.  Of course, my Butterfly Friends chippy provides yet another layer. It has been prepared with white gesso and then heat embossed with Snow Embossing Powder. You can also see here one of the Courtship purple Roses and a couple of the Courtship Blooms!
My Happy title is from Arrow Words and was heat embossed with Iris Embossing Powder. I snipped off the arrow and added it higher on the photo.

Just the other side of the Butterfly Friends chippy which I cut in half so that it could peek out both sides. Love, love, love how that Iris Embossing Powder looks on the Happy title.

I took this photo to highlight some of the stamping done for adding dimension.

This magnificent Gazebo piece is simply painted white and then inked, stamped randomly and popped up on dimensional tape. I added the Organic Vine Corner to one edge and wow, it looks like it is growing up the Gazebo! Love that effect. Of course, I had to add in some of the new flowers!
The vine is simply inked .. one of my favorite ways to alter chipboard. I like a matte finish.

Just a close-up of the purple Courtship Roses and the light green Courtship Bloom. I made them my own my adding some yellow coloring and microbeads. And isn't that vine to die for?

Blue Fern Studios Products used:
Paper: Courtship Lane Royal Street, West Plaza, Calling Cards
Chipboard: Butterfly Friends, Gazebo, Organic Vine Corner, Arrow Words
Stamps: Garden Frolic, Love Story 2, Photography
Embossing Powder: Snow, Iris
Flowers: Courtship Roses, Courtship Blooms

"Anticipation"

This layout was created for our March Sketch Challenge. We hope you get a chance to play along! I decided to go purple on this one. There is lots of simple background work on this one including some stamping with the Christmas Collage stamp .. yes, really! Then I layered the papers as listed below but my primary background layer is Courtship East Plaza.

I wanted this layout to be all soft and feminine, so my chipboard is simply painted with white gesso. I've used the Serendipity Anticipation title and the Township collage.

Just a little floral close-up and some stamping and ink splattering. I've used some clusters of microbeads here and there for more texture.

I've been wanting to use the Banner Flags chippy and when they showed up on this month's sketch. I pulled one out! So cute!

Just s couple of dimensional shots! Love adding in corrugated cardboard to anything!

February Projects by Cathi O'Neill

Got a whole lotta love, for these three! For the Blue Fern February Sketch I have made a layout featuring my husband and two girls. If you peek between their heads you can see the Shannon River and the Clare hills in the background, I just love where we live!  This layout features the Blue Fern Studios Blush Collection, Devoted and Calling Card papers.

And here is the gorgeous sketch we used:

I used a lot of layers for my layout, all from the gorgeous Calling Cards paper. I tucked in some Tattered Diamond Bits covering them with the Imagine Ink Oatmeal Embossing Powder and used the Heart Set which I embossed with Imagine Ink Cotton Candy Embossing Powder.

I've used a lot of gorgeous flowers from my stash and added a twine bow. You can see the Postal Textures stamp I used  in the background along with some masking and splashes.

My next project is a set of canvases, again using the gorgeous Blush Collecition. this time the Celebration and Enamoured papers and lots of gorgeous Blue Fern Studios chipboard.

I really wanted to try a folk art angel in the style of Kelly Rae Roberts, so my canvas on the left is my version of it!!The skin, bodice and skirt are all made from Blush papers and I used a ton of stamps on these!

In this close-up you can see the gorgeous Essential Textures Netting stamp.I wanted something inspirational for my angel so I printed out onto some of the Blush sheets, "She thought she could. So she did."  For some extra depth of color I added gelato pigments to the edges of the skirts and the canvas.

For my angel's wings I used the flying wheel stamp from the Widgets stamp set and fussy cut them out!  The angel got her necklace from the Beads and Charms set.  I used the gorgeous Grassy Knoll Imagine Ink Embossing Powder to do some background masking and also on one of the Ornate Medallions. I also used more of the Ornate Medallions cut in half for part of her dress and as decoration on the canvas, these were covered with Cotton Candy Imagine Ink Embossing Powder.

I love my second canvas as well. It is a simpler design but I used the same papers and colors to tie the two together. Here you can see that I colored in the Follow Your Bliss chipboard with the same gelato colors I used on the angel canvas. I love the way I was able to layer the frame, butterlies and title.

For the Royal Monarch butterfly I used Cotton Candy Imagine Ink Embossing Powder. You can see around the edge here that I used more gelatos, the Essential Textures and the Needlework stamps.

At the base of my design I used the beautiful Ever After Frame and embossed it with Grassy Knoll Imagine Ink Embossing Powder.

My final project uses our newest paper line Serendipity! I just fell in love with this at first sight, so beautiful and vintage grungy! For my base I used the beautiful Serendipity Contemplation paper.

I have done my favorite thing to do with Blue Fern papers and used the Calling Cards cut apart page to layer behind my vintage image photo. I used the strip from the bottom of the paper as part of the design as well!

Here you can see where I have used one of the Graduated Circles frames to frame my image. I covered the frame in some gorgeous Claret Imagine Ink Glitter!  I made the frame a little more grungy by adding some gesso on top of the glitter .  You can just about see the chipboard flower in the frame. It is from the All Natural set and the stem is embossed with Imagine Ink Sage Embossing Powder while the flower has gorgeous Dusty Rose.Imagine Ink Glitter

Here you can see the flowers and nest I used from my stash. Tucked in with the flowers you can see another piece from the All Natural set, the little leaves which I have embossed with the Imagine Ink Sage Embossing Powder..

To finish off my layout with a title I chose Natural Beauty from the All Natural set, again embossed in Imagine Ink Sage Embossing Powder. As a final touch I added some splashes in pink and some stamping using the netting from the Essential Textures stamp set and the diamond pattern from the Forever stamp set..  Isn't this paper line just gorgeous? Thank you so much for stopping by and visiting!

Winner, Winner - and some amazing featured layouts!

Hello everyone!  It's time to announce the winner of our July Sketch Challenge, and to feature some amazing layouts.  We love to show off how you use Blue Fern products.

We will begin with this month's winner, selected by a random draw.........and the winner is entry #7,  created by Alison Bevis of Australia.

Congratulations Alison!  As the winner, you will receive a package of Blue Fern Studios chipboard.  Please send me an e-mail, within the next 7 days, to {valerie(at)bluefernstudios(dot)com} to claim your prize.

Here is the lovely layout Alison created for our July Sketch Challenge using paper from the Sanctuary Collection.  She also used several chipboard pieces - Smile, as her title, Seaside Frame, Checker Bits, and Circle Links.

We are always pleased to feature a few layouts from those that were submitted for the challenge.  You all spend so much time creating layouts for us, and we want you to know how much we look forward to seeing you use our patterned paper, chipboard and stamps!  Of all the amazing projects, here is a selection of 5 layouts that we would like to feature this month.

The first feature this month was created by Taru Jehkonen of Finland.  Aren't theses colors beautiful?  We love how Taru began with a sheet of paper from the Ombré Dreams collection, and created this stunning background.  The frame is from the Splattered Circles set, and the title is one from the Laughter, Happy, Smile set of words.

Marie-Eve of Canada also used paper from Ombré Dreams for her sketch layout, which features some amazing touches of gold!  She used a circular frame on her layout (Graduated Circles), Shabby Brick Bits, and the title is from our French Words chipboard set.

We immediately fell in love with this one from Rae Moses of the US.  The Boston Lattice chipboard piece is the perfect back-drop for this sweet photo.  The paper is from the Dejá Vu collection.  We love the addition of the scalloped border.

The next feature this month also has a scalloped border and striking black accents.  This stunning layout was created by Connie Hall of Canada using paper from the Montage collection.  The Heaven Sent chipboard title, from the Spiritually Speaking set,  couldn't be more perfect with such a sweet photo.

And last, but not certainly not least, is this layout from Joanne of Canada, who has used another sheet from our Ombré Dreams collection.  The simplicity of this one is what caught our eye.  It really lets the photo shine!

That wraps up our July Sketch Challenge.  Thank you to ALL who participated.
We sure hope you will be back creating with us this month.  You can see the August sketch challenge by clicking on the link on our sidebar.  Have a great month!

Three layouts by Marie-Josée

Hello all,

It's July already, school's out and summer is finally here! I am now having some well-deserved time off and I am really happy to have more time to devote to scrapbooking. Here are my latest layouts with Blue Fern Studios products!

"Everyday Moment" layout

For this layout, I used a panel, Printer's Drawer. I glued it to a 12" x 12" piece of chipboard and I applied white gesso all over.

Then, I altered it with various mists and Gelatos.

I used the Everyday Moments chipboard as my title. I altered it with black embossing powder.

I also used various stamps and black ink to add different pattern.

"Fabulous" layout

For this layout, I used a paper from the Sanctuary collection as my background.

I used the word "Fabulous" from the Arrow Words set as my title. I altered it with black embossing powder.

I cut two different pieces of the Graduated Circles set. I cut them to be able to use only a part of each piece on the right side of my layout. I altered the chipboard with gesso, mists and Gelatos.

"Capture the Moment" layout

For this layout, I used a paper from the Ombre Dreams collection as my background.

I also used two pieces of chipboard from two different sets, Grid Pieces and Captured Words.

I altered both pieces with white embossing powder.
