In the mood and Remnants inspirations by Jennifer Jacques

Good morning Blue Fern Fanatics!

It's my turn today on the Blue Fern Studios blog to present my February inspirations.
Did you see the gorgeous new collection "In the mood"?
Absolutely in love with this pink/red and soooooo romantic collection.

Here is my first layout with those brand new products.

"Fabulous"

First, I  primed my background "Optimistic"paper with clear gesso and, then, applied some modeling paste through a stencil.  A little bit of spray to highlight the design and I was ready to go further.

I made my focal point by layering my picture on chipboard, die cut and a piece of "Pensive" paper.

You can see in the picture below, 2 new colors of embossing powders that just came out with In the mood.  Black gold on the chipboard, and the lovely Pixie dust on my doily die cut.  On the leaves, I chose one of my favorite green color, Forest.

Add some printed coordinated chipies under the picture and some laces across the page
(the black one is 3B and ivory one is lace12).

Then, I added some flowers.
The white one is gorgeous with a little bit of glitter on it.  It is from the Garden Blooms set.
On my title, it is the Ivory embossing powder that I chose.

In final touches, I printed some little tiny dots with the Halftone stamp: you can barely see them loll.
Added some gesso splatters and that was it!

Chipboard: In the mood printed chipboard

Embossing powders: Pixie dust
                                     Black gold
                             Ivory
                              Forest
Lace: 3B & 12

Flower: Garden blooms (white one)

Stamp: Halftone

"Beautiful"

For my second inspiration, it is the "Flirty" paper that I chose for my background.

I added some texture on my backgroud with some 3D gel medium on which I sprinkled some
Rose Gold glitters.  Some crackle paste over another stencil, some printing with one of my Blue Fern Studios favorite stamp: Newsprint.

I cut in  parts one of the In the mood printed chipboard  and displayed them under my picture, which is also on a piece of b-side "Pensive" paper.  Also used the circle calendar that came in the coordinated printed chipboard as an embellishment.  The biggest flower  was in the Moody floral flowers set (the pale pink one, that I sprayed a little bit to match the paper's color).

I used 2 colors of embossing powders on my leaves below: Fern and Forest.

Added some enamel dots, more flowers from my stash and, again,
gesso splatters and this one was done!

Last but not least for February,  Remnants collection inspiration!

"Memories"

Here, it's the "Westfield" paper as my backgroud.  As usual, primed with clear gesso.  I used some printed chipboard to build my focal point.  Some lace 7 to add texture, some glitters "In the forest" on the edges of my chipboard and "Meadow" seedlings as final touches on the printed chippies.

Did you see those beautiful flowers below???
My favorite from Blue Fern Studios, the lilies.  Just loooooooove them 💗  The red one from the Harvest Lilies set and the green/brown one from the Wanderlust collection.  Also, under the side of my cluster, a white one from the Remnants blooms ;)

Vintage Inspired by Pam Ellis

This week, Pam Ellis, our Blue Fern Fan of the Month, has created a layout in memory of her mother, who lost her battle with cancer in 2011.  What a beautiful tribute to her mother, who she cared for when she was ill.

Pam used this beautiful sepia photo of her mother along with paper from the Remnants collection.  To the background she applied modeling paste through a rose patterned stencil, and then used purple mist.

The Faded Bloom chipboard piece was cut and used in two places in her design, and serves as an area to place the title.  Pam also cut tags from the paper to use as layering elements.

A few pieces from the Printed Chipboard and flowers from the Remnant Florals added the finishing touches.

Thank you Pam, for sharing your layout and memories of you mother.

Joanne Bain - January Remnants Collection Inspiration

Hi Everyone!!

Firstly I just wanted to say how happy I am to be part of the 2018 Blue Fern Studios Design Team.

So who am I.....

I am Joanne Bain from Queensland, Australia.

I am a very proud mother of 2 and I am happily married to my best friend and have been for 24 years. He is the best husband a girl could ask for and is very supportive of my paper crafting. Most of my inspiration for this craft comes from my wonderful family and friends and also the beautiful array of products that are now available. When I am not scrapbooking, I am kept busy with all activities involving raising a happy family and I like dabbling around with photography which is perfect as I always have something to scrap.

We live in sunny Queensland Australia along with our 2 dogs and more pet birds then I can count. I have been a scrapbooker for 16 years since my daughter was the age of 3 and then 13 years ago along came the other special boy in my life my gorgeous son, many of my creations tend to feature them. From as far back as I can remember I was always doing some form of craft. I have sewed, crocheted, knitted, painted and scrapbooked throughout my teenage years without even knowing it….lol.

My preferred scrapping preference is 12 x 12 layouts and creating off the page/altered projects. I am not locked into a specific scrapping style, as I am happy to give anything a go but I would describe my style as structured with lots of layers, fussy cut paper cutting, detail, dimension and whitespace! Whitespace is the main feature to many of my layouts, I love creating embellished clusters that draw the eye in.

I am proud to say I have held design team positions for manufactures Prima Marketing, Graphic 45, Dusty Attic, Kaisercraft and Manourhouse Creations.

You can find me at:

Now it is time for me to share my January projects, I hope you enjoy and they inspire you to create.

For my projects today I created with the new Remnants collection. This collection is beautiful!

'Remember The Day'

For this layout I used 2 pieces of the Devonshire patterned paper, the colour is simply gorgeous and so so soft. I used one as the base for my page while the other was fussy cut to create my dimensional corner cluster.

How gorgeous are those birds?

I added mini some mini chipboard flourishes and a smaller Techno Square behind my photo for added detail and dimension. The chipboard was all lightly inked with chalk ink as I wanted a soft finish to it, some parts of it were also embossed with Ivory embossing powder, so love that colour.

To make the layout quiet feminine I added some of the gorgeous pastel coloured lillies from the Harvest Lillies set, I then added some cotton thread for added softness. The title for the page is from the Remnants printed chipboard set. I also added some chalk ink to this to slightly soften the colour and make it blend more with the background.

In the background I added a sprinkling of Mauve seedlings to compliment the page and some fussy cut butterflies.

So my next layout probably has a bit more of a masculine feel to it but I have added small little details to help give it some softness. The colouring for this page was inspired by the colour of the Tungsten wedding band being placed on my brothers finger.

'Forever'

For this page I chose to use the Callaway patterned paper from the Remnants collection. I love the grungy feel it has while having a slightly purplish tinge to it. This layout still has a lot of white space happening even though the cluster is more large and open. It also has a steampunk feel to it which I love.

The base of the cluster started with Bits Of Honey chipboard and then built up by adding Cogs & Gears chippy and some flowers. These were all painted with black gesso and then coloured with metallique wax.

The background was stamped with the honey bits stamp and embossed with Ebony embossing powder.

The circular frame over the photo are the throw away pieces from the small Roman Clock set, I never throw away chipboard shapes as you never know when they will come in handy. The Forever title piece was cut from the Families are Forever chipboard title.

Throughout the background of the page I added a sprinkling of Twig seedlings and some coordinating beads and pearls.

My final page today was created using the B side of the Callaway patterned paper and a strip from the Devonshire patterned paper. I cannot express how much I love the colouring of the Devonshire paper. it is just so pretty.

'Happy Together'

The main cluster was created using the Roman Clocks - Small chipboard set. I also added one of the chipboard dangles from the Romantic Page Dangles set.

Some parts of the chipboard was embossed with Ivory embossing powder once again along with chalk ink. The title is from the Remnants Printed chipboard set and has again been altered with chalk ink to give it a softer colouring.

For added interest I added a couple of flowers from the Wonderlust Lillies set. Cotton thread was added and then a sprinkling of Meadow Seedlings to the background.

January Inspiration with Megan

Hi Everyone! Im very excited to begin 2108 with a new team, and one of my favourite scrapbook companies :) :), so to kick off heres a few things about me.

I live in the South Island of New Zealand, which also means its Summer here :)  I live just outside of Christchurch with my husband Forbes and our two dogs, Dougal and McKenzie, and I work part time as a Registered Nurse.  Ive been scrapbooking for awhile now and in that time I have cultivated quite the passion for fussy cutting, flowers and chipboard.  Hmmmm, and paper!  ;) I hate getting messy! but I love dabbling in mixed media - its a bit of a love hate thing lol.

My Blog: weemegsstudio.blogspot.com
Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.nz/weemegs/my-creativity/
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Weemegs-Studio-Creations-1744557915863106/

Anyway, here are my projects for this month.
The first layout I have for you is a photo Ive put off using for a while - I just couldn't decide what to do with it.  And then I saw the Remnants collection and I had a plan!

To create the background I used rust paste with a stencil, then watered it down to create paint splatters. I used three different stamp sets in the background as well - Christmas Collage, Label Frames, and Tattered Newsprint.

To alter the chipboard, I used different techniques - crackle paint to the clock faces, black archival ink to the cogs and Mushroom Embossing Powder to Printers Bits chipboard - these pieces I also inked slightly with black ink and randomly stamped on.

Ive created three layers to page, popping each layer up with scraps of chipboard.

For my second layout I also used the Remnants collection, but this time I wanted a more feminine look to the page.  I used two pieces of patterned paper from the collection, Mayfair and Bloomsbury, and utilised both sides of the papers to create the different layers you see. I also used the Printed Chipboard that comes with the collection for accents.

I loved the glittered look to the new embossing powders Wheat and Night Sky,  they are just stunning in real life!  I also used some mauve seedlings sprinkled in the background.

Again I have lots of layers in this layout, four in total.  Ive split the chipboard frame in half giving two frames, and layered the chipboard phrase on top - Ive split this also so I can place it exactly where I wanted it and you can't even tell it was all joined together initially :).

For the background, this time I used a mixture of colours splattered over the page, gold, white and mauve.  Ive used the Remnants Collage stamp for the background.

My final project is a wooden letter for a friends little girl - S is for Sadie :). I used a piece from the Frolic collection, fussy cutting some of the decorative elements from the paper to use in my cluster.

I have again used a variety of stamps, this time with grey ink - Tattered Newsprint and Arcadia Textures.  The Eclectic Hearts chipboard I gave some dimension to by using an embossing folder, and then Pink Embossing Powder.  The Mini Flourish chipboard pieces were embossed with Pearl Embossing Powder.

Pam Ellis Uses the Remnants Collection

Hello everyone!  Today we welcome back Pam Ellis, our Blue Fern Fan of the Month, for her second project.  This week Pam's layout is created using beautiful vintage shades, along burgundy, from our Remnants Collection.  What a wonderful color combination!

Pam began by applying clear Gesso to the background of the paper and lightly added green coloring to the center of the paper.  Next, she used a stencil and molding paste to add flowers to the background and colored them with a watercolor pencil.  After they dried, clear glue was added and then sprinkled with Blue Fern Studios Redwine Glitter.

Two doilies were die cut from the Mayfair paper, and additional layers were added.  The Persian Ornament chipboard piece was embossed with Blue Fern embossing powder and became the next layer.  Then the photo was added.  The last step was to add Blue Fern seedlings to the frame of the chipboard piece to add contrast.

Throughout the layout Pam added printed chipboard pieces that coordinate with the Remnants Collection, and raw chipboard that she embossed and use as her titles.  Blue Fern flowers from the Remnant Florals and Homespun Blossoms added the finishing touch!

January Remnants Inspirations by Sharon

Good Morning Everyone.
I am so excited to be a part of this amazing design team for 2018!
I cannot wait to share my layouts with you, but first let me introduce myself:

My name is Sharon Fritchman.  I am a registered nurse by day.  I love photography, music, theater, art, and especially scrapbooking.  My husband and I have been married for 28 years - we have 2 beautiful daughters, Katie and Anne.  We adopted Anne from China 15 years ago - that's when I learned about lifebooks and got interested in photography and scrapbooking, and I haven't stopped since.  My scrapbooking style is eclectic and has evolved over the years. I also have an identical twin sister who lives nearby - we are best friends.  If you saw us together, you wouldn't know who is who!!!

You can find me on . . .

I go by Sharon or sfritchey on social media.
Enough about me . . . onto the exciting stuff, my first 3 design team layouts.

I used the beautiful Remnants collection for all 3 of my pages this month.  I just couldn't resist!

*************************************************

Layout #1:  Families are Forever
I used a photo of my twin sister (I told you we are identical!!), my older sister, and me from way back when!  My older sister passed away some years ago from ovarian cancer, and I miss her dearly . . .  I love this butterfly quote and thought it went perfectly with this paper and stamp from the Remnants collection.

My layout was made with love in my sister's memory.

Here are some close-ups:

I mounted my photo on the opposite side of the beautiful Beaumont paper from the Remnants collection.  Next I framed it with Dreamcatcher chipboard that I embossed with Blue Fern Garnet embossing powder.  I enjoyed adorning it wth the beautiful Remnants chipboard shapes and Remnants blooms, too!

To make my title, I embossed Families are Forever chipboard with Antique Gold embossing powder. Then sprinkled it with some lovely flaming and glass seedlings!

Here is another view:

My favorite part was using the butterfly quote by Dave Hedges to personalize it in memory of my dear sister.  The butterflies on the paper are just perfect here!!!!

Layout #2 :  Find Joy in the Journey
This time I used a photo taken on the Asbury Park, NJ, boardwalk on a misty morning.  I was inspired by the moody and beautiful Remnants paper collection!

Here are some close ups:

I framed my photo with Remnants Mayfair and embossed the edges with Dark Chocolate embossing powder.  I also added 2 chipboard Industrial Corners embossed with Dark Chocolate embossing powder to add to the mood.

I enjoy stamping on my pages and love the Remnants Collage stamp!

This page was a labor of love for me.  I thoroughly enjoyed making it using all of the amazing Blue Fern products!!!

Paper: Remnants Callaway, Mayfair
Chipboard: Find Joy in the Journey, Industrial Corners, Remnants printed Chipboard shapes

Glitter: Merlot
Stamp: Remnants Collage

Layout #3:  Live Your Dream

I absolutely LOVE the Remnants collection and couldn't stop creating with it.  I picked a photo of my mom taken long before she became a mom or a teacher, which was her dream.  It wasn't easy for women to go to college back then, and I always used her as my example!!

Here are some close ups:

I used the chipboard Live Your Dream as my title and embossed it with the gorgeous Copper embossing powder.  I also embossed the chipboard Braided Frame with Copper embossing powder to give my layout a cohesive feel.  Don't you just love the photo of my mom?  She was so stylish and beautiful!!!

I know I have said this before, but I just have to say again how much I love the Remnants collection and creating my 3 pages with it.

I can't wait to see you again next month.  In the mean time,  happy scrapping everyone!
