Beach Walk by Pam Ellis

It has been such a joy to have Pam Ellis as our Blue Fern Fan of the Month.  Each and every project has been unique.  This week, she has added some awesome texture to her layout.  It's so realistic you will feel like you are taking a walk along the beach,

Now we will turn it over to Pam so she can tell you about her creative process:

This is my dog Bruiser and I strolling the gorgeous beach in Caribou Monroe Nova Scotia. It was our first holiday in 15 years!  My husband and I had recently bought a fifth wheel and decided to travel the East Coat of Canada.  I have never known such peace. I can't wait to return this summer.

I applied a coat of clear gesso to my background and let dry. I then went over the area that would be surrounding my photo with clear crackle paste.

I added some dimension with a stencil and some molding paste.  I mixed some art stones large and small in some matte Gel and applied around the "beach" area or lower half of the layout to imitate sand.  I then added some shells I picked up while on holidays in the East Coast (Nova Scotia)

I misted the layout with blue and several browns to try and match the paper.  I added paper layers behind my photo and popped it up from the page.  I embossed the Seashell frame with a variety of colors and attached it to my photo.  After I glued everything down, I then added a small vial of sand from the beach in Nova Scotia.

I finished the layout by adding some blooms and my title.

I would like to thank Blue Fern Studios for the opportunity to be the Fan of the Month.  It meant the world to me.

Vintage Inspired by Pam Ellis

This week, Pam Ellis, our Blue Fern Fan of the Month, has created a layout in memory of her mother, who lost her battle with cancer in 2011.  What a beautiful tribute to her mother, who she cared for when she was ill.

Pam used this beautiful sepia photo of her mother along with paper from the Remnants collection.  To the background she applied modeling paste through a rose patterned stencil, and then used purple mist.

The Faded Bloom chipboard piece was cut and used in two places in her design, and serves as an area to place the title.  Pam also cut tags from the paper to use as layering elements.

A few pieces from the Printed Chipboard and flowers from the Remnant Florals added the finishing touches.

Thank you Pam, for sharing your layout and memories of you mother.

Pam Ellis Uses the Remnants Collection

Hello everyone!  Today we welcome back Pam Ellis, our Blue Fern Fan of the Month, for her second project.  This week Pam's layout is created using beautiful vintage shades, along burgundy, from our Remnants Collection.  What a wonderful color combination!

Pam began by applying clear Gesso to the background of the paper and lightly added green coloring to the center of the paper.  Next, she used a stencil and molding paste to add flowers to the background and colored them with a watercolor pencil.  After they dried, clear glue was added and then sprinkled with Blue Fern Studios Redwine Glitter.

Two doilies were die cut from the Mayfair paper, and additional layers were added.  The Persian Ornament chipboard piece was embossed with Blue Fern embossing powder and became the next layer.  Then the photo was added.  The last step was to add Blue Fern seedlings to the frame of the chipboard piece to add contrast.

Throughout the layout Pam added printed chipboard pieces that coordinate with the Remnants Collection, and raw chipboard that she embossed and use as her titles.  Blue Fern flowers from the Remnant Florals and Homespun Blossoms added the finishing touch!

Paper:

Meet our January Blue Fern Fan of the Month

Hello everyone.  We have moved our Fan of the Month feature post to Tuesdays this year, and we are excited to announce our first Fan of 2018 - Pam Ellis.  You are sure to love Pam's shabby chic style.  She has been a long time user of Blue Fern products and we can't wait to share her projects with you this month.  Now we will turn things over to Pam:

My name is Pam Ellis and I live in Gravenhurst, a small tourist town in Canada. I live with my hubby and dog Bruiser. I am a retired R.N. and also founded and ran a Family Violence Program in Toronto for 10 years.

I am a mother of 5 daughters and Grandma to 5  grandchildren. I started scrapping in 2007 after the birth of my first grandchild. My style is typically shabby chic but I am evolving everyday. I typically scrap subjects close to me like my grandchildren. I try not to use pictures I didn't take unless I have to. I love scrapbooking (have a small store in my house lol) , camping, reading and cross-stitching. I have been in love with Blue Fern Studios since it opened it's doors!! I am a forever fan! I am so thrilled to be here with you this month!

Merry Christmas Finn by Vija Anton

Hello Blue Fern fans.  Today we post the final layout from our December Blue Fern Fan of the Month, Vija Anton.  We have fallen in love with each of her unique projects this month, and can't wait for you to see this one.  Vija, it has been such a joy to have you create with us this month.  You have given us and our readers some awesome inspiration, and we were able to give you some mojo to begin creating again!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

This is my last layout as Blue Fern's Fan of the month. Thank you Blue Fern Studios for giving me this opportunity to work with your beautiful products. This layout features a facebook friend's dog, Finn. I will be sending her this layout so I hope she likes it!

For the background I used the Magical paper and used the Wonderland and Homegrown papers for some fussy cutting. I love how these two collections compliment each other so well.

I have created dimension on my page by layering the elements. A double layer of foam tape under the cut out frame helps it sit nice and flat on top of the chipboard and that gorgeous lace.

I added touches of glitter here and there to give my layout a real Christmasy feel.
For me Christmas = glitter and sparkle!!!!

Blue Fern products used were:
Vintage Christmas papers: Magical and Wonderland
Homespun papers: Homegrown
Vintage Christmas printed chipboard
Chipboard: Holiday Vine and Folkart Frame
Glitter: Vintage gold and Christmas pear
Embossing Powder: Sea mist and pearl
Seedlings: Wintergreen
Lace: 9c
Stamp: Jingle bells
Christmas blooms

Sparkle by Vija

Okay blog readers, I hope you are ready for this.  Vija Anton, our Blue Fern Fan of the Month, has created a layout that is sweet, adorable, cuddly, cute, and any other charming words that you can think of.  No matter how frazzled you may be as you prepare for the holidays, this layout is sure to warm your heart just a little and bring a smile to your face.  She even decorated the little Christmas tree!

Here it is her layout and what Vija has to say about it:

I love doing layouts using pictures of dogs, mine or friends, and prefer to use regular collections rather than dog specific papers as I feel it gives me more scope to incorporate some mixed media techniques. This layout features a cute little Bichon Frise named Jewel, who belongs to my best friend on Instagram.

For the background, I used the Homespun paper as a frame and cut around the flower corner to slip the Vintage Christmas paper and die cuts in behind it. I also did a little bit of stencil work on this one to emphasise the lacy pattern on the patterned paper.

I used texture paste on the Snowflake frame and sprinkled it with seedlings and glitter and the title was finished with more glitter using Silver Bells embossing powder. The gorgeous lace helps soften the layout and adds some further texture. I also 'decorated' the Christmas tree with seedlings. This layout is all about 'SPARKLE'!!

The Blue Fern Products used were:

Paper:
Vintage Christmas Wonderland paper
Homespun Homestead paper

Printed Chipboard:
Vintage Christmas printed chipboard

Chipboard:
Snowflake frame
Winter titles

Flowers:
Christmas Blooms

Lace:

Magical by Vija

Today, we are back with a layout from Vija Anton, our December Blue Fern Fan of the Month.
She has used the Homespun paper collection to create this beautiful wedding layout.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
For my layout featuring a candid photo from my son and daughter in law's wedding I used the beautiful Homespun Hospitality paper.  I turned it on its side for my layout and allowed the beauty of the paper speak for itself, just embellishing the page with mainly chipboard and flowers.

To keep the photos the focus of the page I used a frame from the Homespun printed chipboard shapes and embossed all the chipboard pieces in Antique Gold and adding some Sea Mist embossing powder and Wintergreen Seedlings to some of the pieces to keep the page unified. I similarly altered the Wanderlust Vine to tie in with the chipboard pieces.

I added a few bits of lace to add visual dimension and contrast. And a little bit of stamping to extend the foliage and give it a touch of whimsy.

Meet our December Blue Fern Fan of the Month

Welcome to December!  We are excited to announce our new Fan of the Month - Vija Anton.  I did a little Google search and discovered that Vija lives 8,804 miles from Blue Fern Studios, and the flight time would be 18 hours and 7 minutes.  Yet despite the distance, she found Blue Fern and we found her.  It's so amazing that we can connect with creative people all over the world.

Now I will turn it over to Vija, and let her tell you a little bit about herself.  She also has a layout to share, made with paper from our very popular Seaside Cottage collection.

Hi, my name is Vija Anton and I live in Melbourne, Australia with my husband and Golden Retriever, Cooper. I am a huge dog lover and this past year have been very busy raising money for disabled rescue dogs by sewing and selling dog bandanas.

I started scrapbooking over 15 years ago after a trip to the USA. I had walked past a scrapbook store and I was mesmerised by all the pretty papers, and there begun my addiction to paper.

I have no particular style. Sometimes I like to create with multi media and get very messy, and other times I like to just use paper and maybe just a few flowers for a clean & simple look. My main focus on my layouts is the photo. My favourite subject to scrapbook is my Golden Retriever, Cooper and I have made many layouts and mini albums for my friends featuring their dogs too.

I love the quality of Blue Fern products and it is such a great honour to be chosen as the December Fan of the month. Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I am especially excited to be able to work with the beautiful Vintage Christmas collection.

We hope you will join us as we welcome Vija to Blue Fern Studios this month.

Hello December

Hello Blue Fern Fans.  I case you haven't noticed, December is not far away!  We are excited to share with you today another project from Dorota Kopec, our November Fan of the Month.  For this beautiful layout, Dorota has chosen the Wonderland paper from our Vintage Christmas collection as the background.  The more I look at it, the more I see.  This layout is the definition of eclectic - not following one system, but selecting and using what are considered the best elements of all systems.

The chipboard pieces used are the Stars & Berries Frame which is layered beneath the photo.
Peeking out from the floral clusters you can see holly from the Holly Sprigs set.
And lastly, the dangling snowflake is from the 3-piece set of Winter Page Dangles.

This close-up shows just what I'm talking about when I say her layout is eclectic.  Here is a gorgeous vintage photo, and the paper certainly has a vintage feel.  But she has used a frame that would be considered modern, and stenciled numbers on the background.  And there is nothing vintage about the color combination, but it all combines for a cohesive look.

In the corner, Dorota has put together a little vignette by cutting the Santa and his sleigh image from the Holiday Cards paper (Vintage Christmas II) and adding it to the design that is already on the paper.  How cute is that?

Dorota will have one more project for us this month, so be sure to check back.

Meet our November Blue Fern Fan of the month.

This month we are delighted to welcome the talented Dorota Kopec as our Blue Fern Fan of the Month.  You are going to love seeing what she has created for us using the Blue Fern Vintage Christmas collections.  Her style + Blue Fern's style, are a perfect match!   We will turn it over to Dorota now:

Hello.  My name is Dorota and I come from Poland.  I became interested in scrapbooking 10 years ago and have been creating ever since.  Scrapbooking is my great hobby and my job.  I love making cards, albums and other art objects.  Whatever I make it will always be layered and detailed.

I am drawn to vintage, shabby chic styled crafts which I love to create.  I also appreciate the talent of mixed media artists and love the variety of styles and textures that it produces.  I am always inspired to learn and try new techniques in both teaching and my crafts.  I have been teaching at scrapbooking workshops for the past several years.

My first project this month is a set of 2 Christmas bulbs.  I have used paper from the Vintage Christmas Collections for the background, and cut pieces from the paper for accents.

For this bulb, I painted a the Blue Fern Holly Frame chipboard piece and added it to the ornament.

For the second ornament, I added the sweet pair of mittens from the Cozy Christmas chipboard collection.  They are painted and covered in glitter.

Blue Fern Christmas Blooms were added to each ornament.

Our October Fan of the Month

October is here, and so is our new Blue Fern Fan of the Month, the wonderful Lisa Landry.  Her elegant style is perfect paired with Blue Fern products, which explains why she is such a fan.  So, let's get to know Lisa, and take a look at her first layout for us this month (and get to know one of her beautiful cats, too).

Hi!  My name is Lisa Landry (a.k.a. iluvcats261).  >^..^<
My husband and I live in Lake Charles, Louisiana where we were both born and raised. I have a wonderful daughter, an awesome son-in-law, and two sweet Grand Kitties that live not too far away in Houston, Texas.  Besides my husband an daughter, the loves of my life are my two magnificent Birman cats, Miss Gali and Lucy (mother and daughter), who have become popular in the scrapping community because they are my biggest inspirations.
My daughter introduced me to scrapbooking in 2010 and it’s the first craft I’ve ever been interested in.  Scrapping brings me peace, happiness, enjoyment and relaxation.  My creations are mostly romantic style with an added touch of shabby chic on occasion.  I especially love creating flower clusters, stenciling a pretty design and heat embossing chipboard!  The paper design and the photo I choose guide me through the creation process.
When I discovered Blue Fern Studios I fell in love with their high-quality products and have been one of their biggest fans for a very long time!   I’m extremely honored to be Blue Fern’s October Fan of the Month!  I hope that you enjoy my creations…..and as always, have a wonderful day!  Lisa : )
******************************
For this layout, I used Blue Fern Studios Happy Accident paper collection that has
light blue tones (because of Lucy's eyes) and beige and white (for Lucy's colors).
The photo is adhered to cardboard for a little raised dimension.

BFS Doodle Corners chipboard reminds me of string!
I used them to frame Lucy's adorable photo.
They are heat embossed in BFS Imagine Ink color Starry Night.  WOWOWOW!
What a perfect match to Lucy's eye color!!

Cute black & white Baker's Twine was perfect to zig-zag around the layout edge
since the layout is all about Lucy's beloved string.
To the upper right of the photo, I heat embossed Blue Fern Studios brick stamp
in the Essential Textures set with their Imagine Ink color Oatmeal.

Blue Fern Studios Products used:
Happy Accident paper "Blessing" backside
Essential Textures Clear Stamp Set - bricks
Imagine Ink embossing powders - Oatmeal & Starry Night
Chipboard - Doodle Corners

I hope you enjoyed my first post!
I look forward to creating some new layouts with Blue Fern's gorgeous products!
See you the next few Wednesdays.  Have a great day, Lisa : )

How Sweet it is to be Loved by You.

Hello Blue Fern Studios Fans!  Phyllis here to share my last layout for Fan of the Month. I created a layout using the Amber & Apricot collection.  So Gorgeous!  I love colors of fall.

First off I started with Amber & Apricot's Joyful paper and cut off the edges then did some distressing.  I added Amber & Apricot's Faded Blooms paper for my backing.  I love how the brownish tan and beautiful design looks behind Joyful paper.  I also distressed the edges.   I used Birdsong and tore around the birds and a portion of the paper for my design.  Then I used the other side of Birdsong for some contrast and tore some more paper.

I added texture paste through a stencil, and then added Blue Fern Studios Blood Orange embossing powder.  It was exactly what I was hoping for, just enough glitter and color.  I also used the Blue Fern Studios Crackle & Grunge Grid Stamps for more texture.

For layering I added Blue Fern Studios flowers and chipboard - Apricot Blooms, Wanderlust Lilies, Fern Leaves, Manchester Frame and Roman Clock chipboard pieces.  I added Blue Fern Studios embossing powders Avocado and Chili powder to the Manchester Frame, and then added some Blood Orange to it.  For the Roman Clock I used Blue Fern Studios Chili Powder.  I painted the Fern Leaves chipboard pieces with gold acrylic paint.  For the last part of creating my layout I added some Blue Fern Studios Twig & Mustard Seedlings.  For the title I used the Amber & Apricot Sticker Chipboard piece,  How Sweet it is to be Loved by you.

Blue Fern Studios Products:
Amber & Apricot Collection:  Birdsong,  Joyful,  & Faded Blooms
Chipboard:  Fern Leaves,  Manchester Frame & Roman Clock
Embossing Powders:  Chili Powder,  Blood Orange,  Avocado
 Seedlings:  Twig & Mustard
"How Sweet it is to be Loved by You" Sticker Chipboard piece
 Apricot Blooms
 Wanderlust Lilies
Crackle Stamp & Grunge Grid Stamp

I really enjoyed trying some new products from Blue Fern and felt honored they asked me to be Fan of the Month!  They always have gorgeous paper collections and so many other fun products to create with!

I hope you have a chance to play with Blue Fern Studios - you will love their products!  Thank you so much for stopping by at Blue Fern Studios!    Happy Creating!

Journey by Phyllis Fernandez

Hey Blue Fern Studios Fans, Phyllis here to share another layout using papers from the Wanderlust collection!  I'm a huge fan of shades of blues. It reminds me of the water at a beach!

I started stamping with Blue Fern Studios Arcadia Textures stamp and Crackle Textures stamp.  After stamping I did some stenciling using White Crackle Texture paste and molding paste.  For the burlap texture I added some of Blue Fern Studios Embossing powders for hints of color.  Then with my other stencil I only added the White Crackle Texture paste,  it gives it just enough texture to my background.

I also used Blue Fern Studios Corner Flourish chipboard to my layout,  I heat embossed Blue Fern Studios embossing powder and then dry brushed Gesso to soften the colors so they blend in a little bit.

I did some diecutting with the Wanderlust papers for more texture.  I added Wanderlust Lilies flowers and a few flowers from the Apricot Blooms flowers.  The "Journey" chipboard sticker from Wanderlust collection went perfect with this layout!

For more texture (because I can never have enough) I added beads,  art stones and Blue Fern Studios seedlings and embossing powder glitter.  I gathered some embellishments from my stash to complete this layout!

Blue Fern Studios Supplies:
Wanderlust Calling Cards Paper
Wanderlust Pacific Coast Paper
Wanderlust Wanderlust Petites Paper
Crackle Texture Stamp
