Altered Art--with Keren Tamir

Hi Everyone,
Its Keren here with two altered projects for the Blue Fern Studios blog.

For my first project I created a pair of mermaid shadow boxes by altering two 6x6  canvases. I have a step by step video tutorial below to show you how I created them.

Here is the step by step video tutorial below:

I used two 6x6 canvases and reversed them to create the shadow box effect.
I love creating these type of projects as they are perfect for displaying on a mantlepiece.

I used the Seaside Cottage collection and various embossing powders and glitters to embellish these canvases.

I used real shells and starfish as embellishments and even added some netting to make it look as if it is under the sea.

My second project this month is an altered paint brush.

I took a wide old paint brush and embellished it using many different types of chipboard pieces.

I took a wide old paint brush and embellished it using many different types of Blue Fern Studios chipboard .

I used pieces from the following chipboard sets: Cogs and Gears, Moving Parts, Roman Clock and Wind up.
I also used one of the Tattered Butterflies as the focus and then I cut the chipboard word Heart to get the word Art. It was perfect for this piece and I still have the word "he" for another project.

The chipboard and paint brush was first covered in black gesso and then embossed with the following Blue Fern Studios embossing powders: Peacock, 14 Karat, Heavenly and Magenta.
Finally I added some touches of gold paint to fill in the areas where the embossing powders could not reach.

Thank you so much for visiting the Blue Fern Studios Blog
Have a wonderful day!!

August Projects by Melinda Thompson

Hello everyone,

I have 2 layouts to share with you today showcasing some super super gorgeous Blue Fern Chipboard and papers.

My first layout is using the Deja Vu collection papers again.. I started with the layering 2 peices of paper from the collection as my base then I placed the gorgeous Butterfly Grid over the top which I covered in Gesso first.

"Memories"

Before I stuck my Butterfly Grid down I partially cut out come of the butterflies to "lift" them off the page and make them come to life.  This was perfect way to show this photo of my little man who is always outside, its his favourite place to be, always trying to catch butterflies.

Products Used:
Papers: Deja Vu
Chipboard:  Butterfly Grid, Memory Frames, Picture Perfect

My next layout is using papers from the Ombre Dreams Collection.  Don't think I will ever tire of using that collection.

I have added lots of masculine type chipboard to this layout. I love to layer and layer my chipboard to create lots of demension, texture and interest to my page.

"Bros"

I always start with covering my chipboard with Gesso.  This will hold any colour of ink to your chipboard.  I glue everything down and then I add my colours.  Using a fine paint brush I randomly flick my colours around and spreading it further by misting it with water.

Products Used:
Papers: Ombre Dreams
Chipboard:  Circle Links, Cogs and Gears, Faucets, Hooks and Keys, Lightbulbs, Moving Parts, Techno-Scape, Software Peices

Thank you so much for stopping by:)

Mixed media- with Keren Tamir

Hello Everyone, Its Keren here with two new projects for the Blue Fern Studios blog.

I really love experimenting with Mixed Media Products.
It has become my passion and so today I'm showcasing two different projects heavily based on mixed media using many different Blue Fern Studios chipboard pieces

First up is a 6x6 Shadow Box Frame Butterfly Canvas.

The whole canvas was inverted and framed with the Chelsea Frame. The frame was embossed in blue embossing powder and then dabbed with silver acrylic paint.

The centre of the canvas was filled with blue and silver glass beads. Then I glued a piece of the Turkish bits chipboard on the background.  Finally i used two butterflies from the Gabrielle butterfly set. All three pieces were embossed in either blue, silver or white respectively.

My Second project today is a Steampunk 8x10 Mixed Media Canvas using different mechanical looking chipboard pieces and a real light bulb.

Its called
"Let there be light"

I glued many different mechanical chipboard pieces like the cogs and gears, the light bulbs, the industrial corner, the working parts and some of the moving parts chipboard pieces.

They were all covered in black gesso and then painted on top with different metallic paints.

The final touch was adding a real light bulb from my house. We recently changed a few of our light bulbs inside our home and so I've been using them in many of my projects. I figure its better to recycle them than throw them away.

Thank you so much for visiting the Blue Fern Studios blog
have a fantastic day!!!
