July Inspiration by France Ringuette

Hi fellow Blue Fern Fans, today will be my last series for Blue Fern Studio. Due to some unexpected work changes, I am required to do lots of business travel, this is has the impact of reducing my craft time and I've had to make the heartbreaking decision to leave the amazing Blue Fern Studio creative team. I hope this last production will inspire you with the amazing Blue Fern Studio Products.

Layout #1: Travel

My first layout this month is inspired by the amazing Tattered Wall grunge feel paper of The Garage. It is amazingly perfect for making boy layouts, I just fell in Love with this paper.

Have you seen this new Azul embossing powder? It is spectacular. Perfect mix of turquoise and silver.

The ephemera are so much fun to use, it makes the perfect small elements around your picture.

Layout #2: Love

Oh what can I say, it's so easy to be inspired when you get the chance to work with an amazing baby photo like my friend's daughter, she is just adorable. Happy Accident remains one of my favorite collections. I love the detailed print on this background. On this layout, I wanted to created a soft vintage feeling so I opted to play with lots of flowers and embossed chipboard.

Frame chipboards are my favorites, I love using them under my pictures to create dimension. Embossed in rose gold, this one gives the softness I was looking for with a twist of shimmer.

Touched of Lace add to the delicate feeling of the page

I love this flower with a pearl center, just perfect. I also enjoy adding lace in my layering of the flowers.

On this dangle chipboard, I opted to use 2 different embossing powders : Baby Pink & 14 karat

The Tranquility collection was just what I needed, it breaths calm and tranquil, perfect for this baby picture.

The Widget stamp is so much fun for a boy layout, I just enjoy the gears. I also enjoy embossing on my layout,

May Inspiration - Joanne Bain

Hello!!

Joanne here with you today to share a couple of layouts and a tutorial with you featuring In The Mood, Deja'Vu and Tranquility collections. These have been mixed and matched and go together beautifully.

'Remember When'

The idea for this layout started with the large heart which was cut from the Blissful paper from the In The Mood collection. I cut the heart out and folded in half, I then rolled the top corner to expose the inside pattern paper, its such a pretty colour. From there I wanted to work with soft pastel colours so I chose to do a lot of fussy cutting from the Atelier patterned paper from the Deja'Vu collection.

The fussy cut pieces were then layered in amongst the layers of Blue Fern blooms to create a gorgeous main cluster. I chose to use a darker background to make the soft colours pop.

At the base of the cluster I have used the Romantic Page Dangles chipboard. This has been left raw as I feel the raw colour complimented the page.

To add softness to the page I then added frayed cheesecloth and coordinating cotton thread. The title for my page was cut from one of the page title strips that is normally cut off and discarded, but I always look because sometimes these are perfect for titles just like this one.

For my next page I created a page for my son. I am always asked do you ever scrap boys? Well yes it just depends if my son wants to play along and have his photo taken. So today I have created a layout with a tutorial so you can scrap the special boy in your life.

'Happy'

This layout features fussy cut images from the Patience patterned paper from the Tranquility collection. I think the colours and images were perfect for a boyish page and look not a flower in sight.

Throughout the cluster I have placed some of the Blue Fern Shabby Brick Bits chipboard which has been coloured lightly to coordinate with my page.

To frame the photo and add extra texture I have used some this Jute string, I love its natural colouring. I have also added a little sprinkling of seedlings to this.

Between layers I have again used a natural coloured frayed cheesecloth which I have in places coloured with coordinating watercolour paint.

How cute is that little bird? Once again I have used the patterned paper title label strips that are cut off the pattern paper. The Tranquility strips had those cute little blue butterflies.

Meet our July Blue Fern Fan of the Month!

We hope that all of you in the United States enjoyed a wonderful day of celebrating
 our country's independence yesterday.

The first Wednesday of each month also allows us the celebrate the Blue Fern Fan of the Month!
Joining us for the month of July is the awesome Tracy Funk.  You will enjoy the vintage and
slightly grungy style that she uses when creating.  Each Wednesday during the month
Tracy will share a layout using Blue Fern products.

Let's turn it over to Tracy so you can get to know her a little better,
and to see the first layout she has created for us this month!

Hi, my name is Tracy Funk.  I live near Toronto, Canada with my husband and two teenage sons. I have always liked crafts but discovered scrapbooking in 2008 and have been addicted to it ever since.  My style leans toward vintage because I love to scrap old family photographs but I do like to scrap photos of my boys too. I am so excited to be Blue Fern Studios' Fan of the Month for July.  I love their chipboard and the premium quality paper they make, especially. It's a pleasure to create with their products.

I'm very excited to present this layout called "Garden Contemplation" that I did for Blue Fern Studios
as their "Fan of the Month" for July.  If features a photo of my husband's great-grandfather.
For this layout I used Patience from the Tranquility Collection.

This chipboard piece is the Floral Lattice Bits which I finished by dabbing them with
green, blue, brown and white paint using a brush.

The Ironwork Arch at the top left of layout was painted with white and various shades of brown
using a sponge stippler to give a soft, blended effect.  I also inked around the edges with dark grey.

I used brown embossing powder on the Renaissance Border and rubbed green paint over the rough embossed surface using my finger.  I then glued some tiny beads randomly over top using a clear-drying adhesive.

Thank you so much to Blue Fern Studios for this opportunity!

~ Designer Favorites 2016 ~

Have you ever created a project that instantly became a fave? Maybe your photo spoke to memories past, or your new art supplies really got the creative juices flowing or even the mood you were in  as you created.  But somehow, it became a fave.

Well, we decided to ask our Creative Team to show us THEIR favorite Blue Fern Studios project for 2016!
They all agreed it was very hard to choose!
But here is what they finally settled on  …

Here's what Nicole said about her choice:

"I chose this layout as my favorite Blue Fern Studios DT creation because frankly, it is one of my all-time favorite any DT creations! But of course, Blue Fern Studios is the reason why it is so special. I am in love with woodgrain pattern and this one from the Tranquility collection with its teal blue tint is just gorgeous. I love the softness and serene feeling that this layout evokes with a very simple photo and a very inspiring quote. Every time I take a look at the chipboard focal piece, La Plume, I get a sense of peace and hope."

Designer Keren Tamir is a master at doing beach themed projects! Give her some blue and green and she's happy! Here, she took one of our Seaside Cottage papers and created this amazing calm and peaceful scene! Her chipboard choices are exquisite and replicates the ripples of the ocean! Ah, so relaxing!

Marilyn Rivera also found it hard to choose just one project! Her background in fashion design is almost always incorporated in her layouts, most notably her fabulous pleating of her paper. Here, it seems the bride is pulling aside a curtain. Marilyn likes to frame her photos with embellishments, flowers, stenciling, ink and pearls. This is also a favorite photo of hers.

Just one peek at this beauty and you can see Renae Harrison's love for mixing unexpected textures together.  The feminine photo, flowers, pearls and lace work beautifully against her rolled paper pieces, twine and wood sprigs. The chipboard was left almost natural to blend with her theme.

Pascale is a master at making her photos the focus of her layouts. Here she has taken a vintage photo and clustered it with chipboard and flowers while still allowing the paper to shine! We adore the unique circular design. We will miss her amazing sneak peeks of her chipboard alterations.

Here's what Debbie had to say about her fave:

"Here is my favorite from the Seaside Cottage Collection. I wanted to use the picture of my friend's daughter walking on the beach. Everything on this layout came together perfectly. Love the soft colors of the papers, flowers and embossing powders on the chipboard."

Cathi O'Neill is a fan of our older Ombre Dreams collection and it worked perfectly for this beach photo of her daughters! Her cluster of chipboard, flowers and shells are perfect accents. We love that she's including some stamping to create more dimension. Great choice!

Here is what Karine told us about her "second favorite" project:
(Her actual favorite was recently used in her December post, so she chose another.)

"I love this layout because it has everything I love about scrapbooking: memories, texture, chipboards, flowers and beautiful colors."

Marie-Eve had this to say about this layout of her sweet baby:

"It is My favorite because of the Mémoires collection That i just love!  It also included some texture chipboard , my favorite ones. Finally, It is a picture of my precious baby boy."

Elena Volchkova- Ukraine

Elena also had a hard time choosing but finally settled on this one. Her style is always soft in texture but she often includes a few bright pops of color as she does here. You might notice this paper is that same one that Cathi chose.

Sandi said:

"I finally settled on this layout as my favorite because I loved the grunge-y photo of my youngest daughter and took my inspiration from it. I had so much fun altering the chipboard pieces to complement the photo and the Serendipity paper. Also, because I usually do more shabby, romantic pages, this was an artistic departure for me."

Maja Nowak - Poland

From Maja:

"I loved making each and every one of my projects for Blue Fern Studion during my term on the team, putting my heart into every creation. So if I have to pick just one most favourite, my choice is based on the amount of fun I had while creating, measured by the amount of BFS products used for it. :) And thus my pick is the mini I made for my June post, Crazy Cousins. It marks my absolute record with 21 chipboard pieced from 14 various sets, 13 embossing powders and 23 motives from 13 stamp sets. Plus fun photos I was working with." :)

Karolina said this about her favorite:
We agree this is an amazing piece!

"It was so hard to choose only one, so I needed more time. Here is my favorite. I picked this one because I love a marine style and colors and all details of this layout."

Yuko Tanaka - Japan

How could one ever decide on a favorite of Yuko Tanaka? She is known for  her great use of multiple photos and unique fussy cutting placement. Here she has used one of her wedding photos as well as a more recent one taken at the same chapel.  Her white chipboard just shines against her Timeless papers.   Such a soft, feminine page!

Jelissa Mei - Singapore - Video Educator

Video Educator Jelissa Mei always wows with her unique backgrounds and great chipboard techniques. We thought this sweet photo of her baby girl with her daddy needed to be highlighted today. Jelissa makes great use of white space (Blush) around the photo cluster to really draw the eye towards it. We will miss Jelissa's great video tutorials but encourage you to visit our You Tube channel (link on the right sidebar)  in case you missed one.

We have had a great year here at Blue Fern Studios!
