Happy Accident Layouts by Kris Berc

Hi, Blue Fern Studios friends and fans! It's Kris here to share my May layouts.  All three feature the new paper collection called Happy Accident.  I do believe this collection will be a strong favorite for a very long time! It is so wonderfully suited for mixed media, but it also stands beautifully on its own.  I hope you will get your hands on this collection, as you are sure to love it!

This is My Life

My first layout features the B side of the Happy Accident - Layering Cards paper.  I prepared it with a layer of clear gesso then a little bit of white gesso in the focal area. I added some drops of pink, peach, and orange sprays to the paper to coordinate with the flowers that I was going to add.  When dry, I used the brick stamp from the Essential Textures stamp set with black ink.

I used Copper Embossing Powder on the This is My Life chipboard piece.

I also used the Copper Embossing Powder on a butterfly from the Royal Monarchs chipboard set.  For some beautiful contrast, I added some Pink Dust Embossing Powder to the butterfly here and there.

I used the same embossing powder treatment on the Blooming Flourishes chipboard pieces that are layered under the photo and flowers.  Above, you can see a coordinating Happy Accident Printed Chipboard Sticker peeking out on either side of the photo and another, "Inspiration", beneath the photo.

Of course, a handful of gorgeous coordinating flowers, including Happy Roses, Spring Lilies, and Harvest Lilies, were used to embellish the layout.

Together is the Best Place to be

This layout features the B side of the Happy Accident - Fluke paper.  I prepared it with a layer of clear gesso and then applied modeling paste through a stencil.  Next I added color with some drops of peach, orange, and yellow sprays. When dry, I added contrast by using black ink with the Tattered Newsprint stamp and a stamp from the Forever set.

I used Stormy Skies embossing powder on the Together is the Best Place to be chipboard piece.  Isn't it a lovely shade of blue?!  Used 14 Karat embossing powder on the Royal Heart Frame chipboard piece that you see peeking out under and around the photo.

I tucked a blue chipboard flower from the Happy Accident Printed Chipboard set into an embellishment cluster.

The flower clusters include beautiful Happy Blooms and Happy Roses.

My last layout features the Happy Accident - Chance paper.  I prepared the paper with a layer of clear gesso followed by modeling paste through a stencil.  Next, I added color with drops of purple, pink, black, and white sprays.  When dry, I stamped using the Tattered Harlequin stamp as well one of the Essential Textures stamps using black ink.

I embossed the Swirly Circle chipboard piece with Plum embossing powder.  I did the same on the Sassy chipboard piece, but I also added some Rusty Rose embossing powder on it here and there.  I love the beautiful effect!

Above and below, you can also see some of the Happy Accident Printed Chipboard stickers.

The below "Passion" chipboard sticker is also from the Happy Accident Printed Chipboard set.

February Projects for Lydia Guijt

 Hello Blue Fern Studios friends.
It's Lydia here today showing you my 3 projects for February.
So excited to be using the soon to be released Chesterville Collection. The first 2 layouts are made withe that and the third with the Serendipity Collection. Here goes!

Capture the Moment

For my back ground work I started off with using the Postal Textures Stamp and Antique Gold Embossing Powder to create some interest. After that I followed with a stencil and paste.
The Swirly Doodle and Swirly Circle Chipboard pieces I embossed with Black Sand BFS Embossing Powder and the Roman Clock Set and Captured Words with Copper BFS Embossing Powder.

Once I had all the preparations done it was time to start layering. Adding Late Winter Lilies and other embellishments to get the layout together. Some finishing touches with some mists and ink splatters and we're done with the first one.

For my second layout with the Chestervile collection I used another picture from our trip to the Grand Canyon. The mountains fit perfectly with the colors of these papers. To make things pop I decided to go with a contrasting color. I had my eye on the gorgeous Peacock BFS Embossing Powder for the Manchester Frame. Working my way back to all the other accents with that.

For my background I used the stamp and embossing technique again. Going with the Scratched stamp and Antique Gold BFS Embossing Powder. Followed by a stencil and paste, some misting and ink splatters.

The Notebook Edges chipboard piece I embossed with Black Sand BFS Embossing Powder. The Seasonal Wild Flowers and Journey, Explore, Discover chipboard pieces with Oatmeal BFS Embossing Powder. Adding Autumn Glitter to the tips. With this all prepared I cut some pieces of paper from the Chester and Holmes papers to create some layers adding the chipboard pieces and Dark Tropic Lilies and other embellishments to finish of the layout. A final touch of ink splatters and we're done.

Memories Captures

For my last layout this month I chose the brighter color scheme of the Serendipity Collection. Getting ready for Spring this part of the world.

For the back ground I started with stamping around the page with a combination of stamps, Postal Textures, Christmas Collage & Shabby Edges. Followed by a stencil using an assortment of pastes. The gorgeous Janie's Frame chipboard piece was embossed with Oatmeal BFS Embossing Powder. After it was done I cut it through half to position on either side of the page.

I fuzzy cut some pieces from the Merriment sheet to use on the layout and several butterflies. Assembling it all I used an assortment of BFS Flowers : Dark Tropc LiliesSoft Blossoms & Courtship Roses. Adding some final touches with some Burnt Copper Sunshine Glitter for a bit of extra sparkle and we're done.

For this layout I used the Courtship Lane Collection. I LOVE the soft pastel colours in this collection.
The papers are perfect to pair with flowers, lace and ribbons.
I chose the Courtship Lane Royal Street paper as my background. I added delicate details to this paper using distress ink and a stencil, along with a stencil and texture paste.

I used embossing powder to colour my chipboard pieces. For the word Adorable I used Mystic Plum and Petal. For the Swirly Circle I used Mystic Plum, Cotton Candy, Petal, and Lilac embossing powders.

I finished my layout with a generous amount of flowers and lace. I also used the embossing powder in Snow to stamp butterfly images onto Vellum paper.

April Inspirations with Jelissa

Hello friends!

How quickly time passes and we're into the month of April! Today I'm up on the Blue Fern blog with two creations made from the Serendipity and Courtship Lane collection.

My first share is this layout using Courtship Lane papers. I chose pink (yes!) because it matches the boys' T-shirt in the photo and also, every time I see them, my heart is just filled with love for them. Keeping my background work simple so that the papers can shine.

Some close-ups:

My title chipboard - I made a paste from iridescent medium and mixed it with some pink metallic paint. I was able to get some body and texture out of the mix and make my title more interesting.

The Sweetheart frame which I painted with metallic pink frame and some shimmery pink watercolors.

New flowers from Blue Fern Studios! {Heart} these!

My all time favourite Layering Stems - which I had layered 3 Imagine Ink embossing powders - Clover, Verdant and Grassy Knoll.

Blue Fern Studios products used:

paper: Courtship Lane collection - Town Gossip, Concert Hall, Bourbon Ave, Calling Cards
chipboard: Layering Stems, Sweetheart Frame, Hugs & Kisses
Embossing Powder: Clover, Verdant, Grassy Knoll
Flowers: Courtship Blooms and Courtship Roses

My next layout is created with the Serendipity collection and I love just how much creative space these papers give me. What got my attention was how the colors blended into each other and I wanted to create that in the chipboards as well. With so many lovely quotes in Calling Cards, I ended up using one of them as a title for my eldest boy who has a vivid imagination.

Details in the close-ups:

Cutting up the quote and scattering them all over the page, using them to create a sense of motion.

Snipping up Chelsea Vine chipboard and tucking it in everywhere. I've also used Blue Fern Studios flowers in my cluster. You can also see how I have layered the embossing powders in my background.

My Bird in Flight treated the most fun way - with tissue paper.

More Blue Fern blooms.

Lots of goodies in the background.

The gorgeous duo-tone blue-gold on Swirly Circle chipboard.

And here is the start-to-finish video:

Blue Fern Studios products used:

paper: Serendipity collection - Chronicle, Calling Cards, Fascination, Imagination, Contemplation
chipboard: Chelsea Vine, Swirly Circle, Birds in Flight
embossing powder: Breeze, Sky Blue, Seven Seas, Oatmeal, Snow, Clover, Verdant, Grassy Knoll, Sage
flowers: Courtship Roses

That's all I have for today. Thank you for dropping by!

February Inspiration by Debbie

Hi everyone!  Debbie here with you today.  I have 3 layouts to share that I created with the Blush and Timeless paper collections, along another one featuring the new Serendipity paper collection.  Lots to share so this will be a lengthy post.  The new Serendipity collection was introduced  last month along with new chipboard, glitter and embossing powders.  Here is what I created with the Serendipity papers.
Serendipity is a gorgeous collection!  Love the vintage look, details and colors.  Here I've used the Chronicle paper for my background.  I applied some masking, misting using the Imagine Ink Sky and Winter Mint Mists along with the Arcadia Textures and Romantic Accent stamps and paint splatters. I used the Reminisce and Calling Cards papers to layer under my photo.

I used two chipboard pieces here.  The new Swan Gate along with the Swirly Circle.  Both were embossed with Oatmeal and Sea Mist embossing powders.  I then randomly added some paint and micro beads.

My title Dream Big is from The Optimist Word Set.  I first painted the words and then sprinkled on some Cranberry Glitter.

The next layout was created using the Blush Collection.
The background paper is Key To My Heart.  The colors and details on the paper are beautiful! I applied masking, misting with Imagine Ink Cotton Candy Mist, stamping with Romantic Accents and Texture Circles to the background.  Layers of papers under my photo include Callings Cards and Cupids Folly.

The True Romance chipboard was embossed with a mixture of  Pearl and Cotton Candy embossing powders, then lightly stamped with the Romantic Accents stamp.  I used the Floral Heats chipboard which I cut apart and embossed with Cotton Candy and added pink paint.  The flowers from the Floral Hearts are placed randomly on my layout.

Both sides of the photo include pieces of the Floral Hearts chipboard and Turkish Bits chipboard which I colored with gelatos and misted with Imagine Ink Persimmon Mist.

I used the Chelsea Medallion and Damask Panel  chipboard which I embossed with Oatmeal and Sage embossing powders.

The butterfly was cut from the Papillions paper and embossed with the Honey and Sage embossing powders.
