Tattered Walls Layouts by Jessica

Hi everyone and happy July!  I have a few layouts to share with you this month using the newest Tattered Walls Collection.  On with the show!

"Love"

My background paper is "The Powder Room" from the Tattered Walls Collection.  Under the photo I used a piece of "The Reading Room" paper painted brown around the edges.

I used a lot of different flowers from various sets on my layout.  To begin, I took the pink flower from the Summer Blossoms collection and took the two pieces apart.  I then had two buds to use for my project - I just folded them and put them in place.  The flower with the blue gem in the middle is from the new Spring Blooms set.  The off-white flower is from the Fresh Florals set.  I removed the stamens, added a gem and put the new Aquamarine Seedlings around it.

The large blue flower is from the Heartland Blossoms set and the pink petals under it is half of a flower from the Spring Florals set.  The vine you see around the picture is from the Wanderlust Vine set spritzed with a shimmering brown spray mist.  I used the Garden Daisies chipboard behind my flowers and embossed it with Ivory embossing powder.

I used various pieces of the Tattered Walls Ephemera around my layout for interest.  The title Love is from the Adore, Love, Cherish chipboard set.  I first embossed it in Ivory, then I used the Crackle Textures stamp to emboss the crackles with the new Sparkling Navy embossing powder.  I did the same thing with the new Glam Frame behind the picture.

The background was just created by using texture paste with a stencil.  Then I used the Crackle Textures stamp with Sparkling Navy embossing powder for more texture.  I then added a blue spray mist over it.

"Hello"

For my second layout I used the back side of the Tattered Walls Apartment B paper.  It is difficult to see under all of the paints and gesso, but I used strips of the orange Tattered Walls The Reading Room paper.  As matting under the picture, I used an old scrap piece of the Amber and Apricot Chapters paper with the London Chronicles stamp.

The white and peach roses are from the Happy Roses set.  I added some Mocha Glitter on the tips.  The title "Hello" is a piece of the Tattered Walls Ephemera.  I also added a couple of pieces of Lace 3B.  Around the picture area, I used the Crackle Textures stamp with the new Sparkling Navy embossing powder for interest.  In addition, I used the Tattered Newsprint stamp with black solvent ink around the white gesso areas.

Next, you can see the Paprika seedlings that I added around the picture.  I also put some Silver Seedlings around these areas because they match well with the picture.  The rose buds are the two pieces of one of the Christmas Blooms flowers tucked under the roses.

Under the picture, I have tucked in a few pieces of the Tattered Walls Ephemera.  The chipboard I used is the new A Spring Day chipboard that I cut into 3 pieces then I embossed the pieces with the new Azul embossing powder.  Finally, below the Silver Seedlings, I added some Clear seedlings.

"Journey"

Finally, my last layout uses The Powder Room paper from the Tattered Walls Collection.  To soften the background, I put on two coats of diluted gesso.  I chose to use the Journey chipboard title at the bottom.  All of my chipboard was painted with a blue paint first, then I used Pearl embossing powder to emboss the pieces.

Next to the photo, I chose to use two pieces from the new Classic Mini Frames set (painted blue then embossed with Pearl embossing powder).

The blue flowers are from the Chesterville Blooms set.  The new flowers with the blue gems are from the Spring Blooms set.  For the stenciled areas, I used clear crackle texture paste and added Blue Ice glitter over the areas.  I used the crackle texture paste so that when I painted around the stenciled areas, the paint would repel from the glittered areas.  You can see around my stenciled area that I used the music notes from the For the Birds stamp set embossed with our new Azul embossing powder.

And lastly, you can see the Tattered Walls Ephemera that I used under my picture.

Remnants Video Tutorial and In the Mood Layout

Hello everyone and happy Valentine's Day!  Today I am up on the Blue Fern Studios blog to share a couple of layouts with you for February.

"Forever"

My first layout features the Remnants Collection.  I am very inspired by the whole collection so I decided to make another video tutorial for this layout.  You can see the video tutorial below.

I chose the Callaway paper for my background.  The Remnants Printed Chipboard pieces with a thin coat of gesso under my picture added just the right amount of dimension.  The circular chipboard pieces around the picture are from the Floral Circles Chipboard and the thin circle frame right behind the picture is from the Tattered Butterfly Chipboard.  I also used the word "Forever" from the Families are Forever Chipboard for the title.

Each piece of chipboard on my layout was first painted with two layers of gesso.  Then I double embossed the chipboard pieces with Pearl Embossing Powder.  Before the embossing powder dried, I sprinkled some White Gold Glitter on the wet embossing powder to add some shimmer.

All of my flowers in my layout have some gesso on the tips, and they were lightly sprinkled with Red Wine Glitter while it was still wet.

To the right of the picture, I used a rose from the Happy Roses set, and the rose to the left of the picture is from the Spring Florals set.  The other three flowers on my layout with the pearls in the center are from the Remnants Florals set.

My picture is mounted on a torn piece of the Mini Remnants Paper.  To add the final touches,  I used a very small amount of Purple Haze Seedlings in various areas around my picture and flowers.

I hope my video tutorial will provide you with some inspiration for your next layout!  Don't forget that I would love to answer any questions you may have. :-)

"Remember"

My second layout for this lovely February features the newest In the Mood Collection.  I chose to use the Pensive Paper for my background and mounted my photo on a torn piece of the Mellow Paper.

I applied modeling paste and stencil then added pink and brown mists to the background.  When it was dry, I used the Crackle Textures Stamp with archival ink.

Next I embossed the Treasured Floral Frame with Pixie Dust and Baby Pink Embossing Powder.  I glued it to the paper, then I used matte gel to attach the Lace 12.

While the matte gel was still wet, I sprinkled some Tickled and Sweet Pea Seedlings.  Next I splattered some diluted black gesso then glued the torn Mellow Paper.

I decided to use small pieces of the Floral Lattice Bits Chipboard embossed with Peacock Embossing Powder and added some Army Dust Glitter.   I glued the pieces under the flowers from the Moody Florals Set.  Finally, I attached the Lace 10 around the side of the picture and randomly added some Emerald Seedlings.

I hope I gave you some inspiration today as you create new layouts from this lovely collection!  Take care!

Happy Accident Collection feauring Bev Code

Hi Blue Fern Studios fans. I am using the amazing HAPPY ACCIDENT Collection on this page.

"Memories Captured"

Hi... Bev here today. As Fan of the Month at Blue Fern Studios I am thrilled to be able to create using layers of paper from the HAPPY ACCIDENT collection. I then stamped using WASHI STRIPS,  BLOOM and STEM stamps and many CHIPBOARDS. I finished it off with a cluster of SPRING FLORAL flowers and a piece of PRINTED CHIPBOARD. I am thrilled to be able to share with you the amazing products I used  on my project.

This Memories Captured page are photos of my eldest son's family along with a group family photo with everyone in it too.

For this page I used a background paper which I ripped and then slotted in another contrasting paper. I inked the edges for depth, texture and contrast.  From there I laid out my proposed chippies and photos to give me an idea where I could apply inked stamping of the bloom and stem flowers and washi strip..

The rings panel chippies were cut apart to fit and inked to match and coordinate with the main paper colours. I also inked the title chippies and some of the full circles to fill in some spot and to float a few freely on the page too.

In this section you can view the stamping, inked chippies and a fabulous cluster of flowers.

Close up view shows the amazing 3D flowers in stunning colours.

Spring Garden layouts by Patty Rogers

Hello everyone!  Today concludes our projects from the Blue Fern Fan of the Month, Patty Rogers.  It has been such a joy to have her with us this month, as we know what a big fan she is of everything Blue Fern.
Today, Patty has created 2 layouts to share with you.  I will let her tell you all about them!

* * * * *

Hello Blue Fern Studios fans! It's Patty with my last post as Fan of the Month. What an honor this has been! I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Spring Parade collection.

Hi Blue Fern fans! It's Patty with another layout from the Spring Parade collection.
I did quite a bit of fussy cutting for this piece, as well as 3-D work and applying texture.

One technique found in my work is layering. I think it shows off all of the beautiful papers,
so dimension is a must for me.

You can see where I used the Forever stamp with Pink Dust embossing powder
on each of the layers in random places for texture and dimension.

I applied a few brushstrokes of gesso on the flowers to lighten them a little and distressed the layered papers.

Here, you can see the layering, distressing, textured background, splatters of color and embossed chipboard pieces.

For this layout, I used May Vignettes as my background paper. The little eggs, bunny, and
flowers are sweet without dominating the background. Again, I used the Spring Bunny Frame,
Good Vibes and Garden Lattice Bits for the chipboard.

I embossed the frame with Snow and Sea Mist embossing powders with just a sprinkle of Spring Posy glitter.

Fussy cutting the little bird in a basket adds dimension to the layout when popped up.

The banners were distressed and I embossed the title using Lavender Eggs.

The flowers used on this layout were Spring Peony and Berries, Spring Florals,
Dark Tropic Lilies and Courtship Roses.

Wishing everyone a lot of creative enjoyment with Blue Fern Studios products! --- Patty

Easter Joy by Patty Rogers

As we approach Easter, our Blue Fern Fan of the month, Patty Rogers, has an adorable Easter layout to share, using paper and chipboard from the Spring Parade Collection.  I'll let Patty fill you in on all the details:

Hi everyone! It's Patty Rogers again to share a layout I created with the beautiful Spring Parade collection. I wanted to use this photo of my two children as they were enjoying Easter Sunday. Don't you love the Spring Bunny chipboard frame?  The charming little bunny and its size are perfect for the trend in scrapbooking to use a small photo.

For this piece, I used a variety of papers from Spring Parade (Market Place, April Medley, Sunrise, Susie's Garden and Spring Parade). The stripes in Sunrise paper begged for a horizontal or vertical design.  I used an inking sponge to darken the paper a little behind the area of interest to draw attention to that area and to make it pop.

Some of the background work that I did can be seen here. First, I used Essential Textures stamp to play up the brick wall seen in the photo.  For the embossing, I used Lavender Eggs, Snow, and Sea Mist and added sprinkles of the brand new Spring Posy glitter! Also, I added a few splatters of gesso.

This beautiful little girl is one of the many reasons I love Blue Fern Studios products! I fussy cut and popped her up for dimension. Also used here is Garden Lattice Bits chipboard in the background. I seem to be hopelessly addicted to dimension, texture and beautiful paper!

Flowers used here are the Spring Florals and Spring Peony and Berries. I painted a bit of gesso on the flowers to give them a lighter feel.

Thanks for stopping by. See you next time!

Meet our April Blue Fern Fan of the Month!

We are thrilled to announce our April Blue Fern Fan of the Month - the amazing Patty Rogers!  Patty is a true fan of everything Blue Fern.  If you stop by her blog, you will see pages of beautiful layouts using our products.  This month, we have the pleasure of sharing some of Patty's layouts with you.  Each week, we will have a new layout from her using the Spring Parade Collection.  She has some wonderful projects planned.

For now, we will turn it over to Patty so you can get to know her and her creative process a little better.

My name is Patty Rogers, also known as A Sassy Scrapper in the world of Paper Crafting. My husband and I live in Texas, United States, where we met at Texas Christian University, as
I majored in education and minored in art. Although our two children are grown now, I still enjoy doing layouts about them at any stage of their lives.

Over the past twenty years, I have had several paradigm shifts in my style, and know that I am ever changing and improving in my work (read "play" here). I keep up with the latest supplies and trends and find that a romantic look is the style I enjoy creating most of all. I became interested in the artistic side of this “craft” a few years back, and love all the fun I have had with embossing, layering, painting, dimension and texture. My work is definitely considered multimedia.

I love Blue Fern Studios products, and have been using them since 2011 while on a design team that carried their amazing products. I especially like that the quality and beauty of their paper is perfect for my style of scrapbooking and that their chipboard, flowers, stamps and embossing powders are perfectly coordinated. I am a hopeless Blue Fern Studio Fan!

For this layout, I chose to use the Chesterville Shelf along with Good Vibes for a title, and Bits of Honey chipboard pieces as a backdrop.  Also used here are June and Market Place papers from the Spring Parade Collection, Pink Dust and Lavender Eggs embossing powders, and Spring Posy glitter.

The flowers included are the gorgeous berries from Spring Peony and Berries, Spring Florals, Heartland Blossoms and Dark Tropic Lilies.  The colors in these Blue Fern Studios products were perfect for the Easter dress my daughter was wearing. It could not have been a better match!

Techniques used for this layout included painting, heat embossing, tearing, 3 - D work, and crimping.

Creating little clusters of the beautiful flowers brought it all together and made the layout very feminine.

One of my favorite techniques to use in a layout is to add texture. Sometimes, I achieve that by using modeling paste and a stencil. Another way to get texture is to heat emboss. For an added touch here, I used a paper crimper to achieve the corrugated look under the photo. For me, there was not one minute during the creation of this layout that was not pure enjoyment!

March projects by Wendy Scholten

Hello everyone,
Today is my turn on the Blue Fern Studios Blog with my march projects.
I made 3 layouts, one with the chesterville collection and two with the new Spring Parade collection.

So let's start with the one from the Chesterville Collection called:

"Adorable"

I just love this picture of our little girl, she was only 10 months here.
I made this layout with the Whitford papers, i used the backside for my background and a piece from the front of the paper to place behind my photo.
Don't you just love those papers, you can use them for every subject.
I embossed the chipboard pieces Textured Wildflowers, Memory Frames, one of the bohemian flowers and the word Adorable with the: iris, vintage gold and sand&sea embossing powders.
To give the background a bit more texture i used the Essential Textures Stamp, that's all it really needed.
I also used a lot of the gorgeous flowers : Heartland Blossoms, Courtship roses and the Dark Tropic Lilies
I used a few things from my own stash: baubles, lace, berries, small beads in different colors and just a little bit of paint.

This is such a beautiful, bright paper collection that  really feels like spring, although you can use it for anything!

This one i called:

"Dazzling"

For this one i used the June paper as my background, and a stencil with some moddeling paste and oil pastels to color the background. Behind my photo i used a piece of the Susie's garden paper, i also fussy cutted a lot of flowers from that paper.
First i embossed the Janie's Fram Chipboard piece with the Lilac and the new Lavender Egg's embossing powders,
I placed the frame and the fussy cut flowers behind my photo frame and decided i wanted to turn the picture a bit to the side to give it a different effect.
i placed some rhinestones in and around my frame to give it a bit of sparkle.
The title Dazzling i embossed with the lavender Egg's and Fern Embossing powders to let it stand out a bit more.
i used a few little flowers, lace, a sticker and rhinestones from my own stash tot complete this layout.

"Cute Stuff"

I used the Susie's Garden paper, i just love this paper, the colors and flowers are so stunning, i also used a piece and fussy cut the flowers from the Sunday best paper.
For the background i used a stencil with some moddeling paste as well as oil pastels for some color. I also used the tattered newsprint stamp with snow embossing powder to give my background some texture.
I chose the Spring Bunny Frame, Spring Trinkets and the title Cute stuff from the Good vibes set for my chipboards, i embossed the spring bunnies frame with lilac embossing powder, the spring trinkets with Lavender Egg's and Speckled mint embossing powders.
I used flowers from different collections on this one: Spring Florals,  Attic Charm Daisies, Heartland Blossoms and Spring Lilies
