November Inspiration by Wendy Scholten

Hi All,
Hope you are enjoying November as much as i do although i must say i'm looking forwards to december. I just love that month with our little girls birthday and Christmas.
The sparkling lights, cozy inside with hot cocoa and off course the Christmas tree.
I have 3 layouts this month to share with you, from which one of them of course features the vintage Christmas collection.

So let's start with the first one:
Memories
It features an older collection, Timeless, but those papers are still gorgeous!
I started with some gesso to secure my paper and used a stencil with moddeling paste and 3 different colors of sprays to give my layout some more texture.
I placed a little piece of cardboard and paper behind my photo to give it some depth and embossed my chipboard pieces. The title Memories with Stormy skies embossing powder, the scalloped border with oatmeal embossing powder and Heidi's Emblem with Taupe Embossing powder.
I decided to give the Garden Florals a brown color with a spay to match my layout a bit more.
And made flower clusters with the Garden Florals, Wanderlust Lilies and Apricot Blooms.
Next i used some metal embellishments and pebbles to finsh my layout.

And now my next one:
Warm and Cozy
This one features the Vintage Christmas 2 collection. Are those Christmas papers gorgeous or what!
I used the backside of the Let it Snow paper and used some Gesso, moddeling paste and a snowflake stencil for my background, i also used 3 different shades of color spary and the Jingle Bells Stamp.
I love Lace number 8, it's so pretty so i had to use it on this layout.
The title Warm and Cozy was cut out of a framed winter word and i embossed it with Fern and antique gold embossing powder as well as the Snow medley chipboard.
I used some Garden Blooms and Homespun Blossoms for my flowers and finished my layout with glass and sweet pea seedlings.

A Little Greeting

Today's blog post features our November Fan of the Month, Dorota.  Once again, she is thinking ahead to Christmas with this pair of elegant cards.  What a beautiful way to send someone a holiday greeting,
and a piece of art, at the same time!

This card has been created by layering several designs from the Vintage Christmas Collection.  The title, A Joyful Christmas, was cut from the Holiday Cards paper which can be found in the Vintage Christmas II Collection.
The chipboard, which has been painted and glittered, is the Snow Medley.
Flowers from Christmas Blooms finish off the card.

This sweet card has layers of goodness from the Vintage Christmas Collection, including the title, which was cut from the Greeting Cards paper.  The little Santa hat is from the Cozy Christmas chipboard set.  Once again, Dorota has added flowers from the Christmas Blooms.

Be sure to check back next Wednesday when Dorota will share a stunning Christmas album.
You won't want to miss it!

January projects by Lydia Guijt

Hello Paper and Blue Fern Studio Fans!
I'm so proud and happy to be part of this company and Design team!

Before I go any further let's introduce myself.
My name is : Lydia Guijt

I'm married to my best friend Peter for 25 years, a Mom to 2 adult children and our fur-baby Wesson. Being Dutch with an Australian passport living in Houston, Texas makes for some interesting conversations. My whole life I've been into crafts but after a special vacation in 2007 the pictures just deserved that little something more. So started my addiction to Scrapbooking.
I hope I can inspire you a little on this journey.

You can find me on social media here:

Lets get started with my layouts. The first one is :

It's a holly jolly Christmas

Once a year my kids will pose for me for the Christmas picture. The rest of the year I have to be sneaky. So these pictures are extra special.

For the  Snow Medley chipboard piece I first stamped it with white ink and then used the Icicle Embossing Powder giving it a wonderful sparkle. For the It's a holly jolly Christmas I started of stamping again and then embossed it with Verdant Embossing Powder, while still warm I went over it with Fire Engine Glitter. Heat setting is on top. To temper the brightness of the color I went over it with a white stamp.

For my background I did lots of fuzzy cutting from the Vintage Christmas - Magical and Wonderland papers. So many beautiful details.

I created an inside mat with the same Vintage - Noel paper that is also used for the background. Layering my fuzzy cut pieces, chipboard and extra paper cutouts to give it some depth. Using the beautiful Christmas Blooms to finish off my page.

Just the 2 of Us

For Thanksgiving we had a trip to Las Vegas, we love to walk around the casino's there, look at the decorations and have a great time. You'll be seeing a lot more layouts with "Just the 2 of Us"!

For the background I used the Heartland - Love Blooms paper. To create some interest I misted and splattered it with some inks and sprays using the same colors found in this gorgeous paper.

The Crackle Bits and Heartland - Just the 2 of Us chipboard pieces I first prepped with ink and then embossed with Sea Mist Embossing Powder. While the title chippie was still warm I sprinkled it with the Peacock Glitter. Heat setting to stay in place for that extra sparkle.

The layers behind between the Crackle Bits are cut from the Heartland - Love Notes paper, with the love heart cut from the Love Song Serenade paper. Once all is assembled, time for the flowers. I used quite the collection. Some final splatters and we're all done!

Time for my third and last layout for this month. These colors make me think about Spring already. Heartland is the perfect collection to pick your favorite colors, it has it all.

For my background I used a stencil with paste and once dry I went over it with mists. I also used some of the Pearl Embossing Powder and the Texture 1 stamps for some extra details.

The chipboard pieces Love, Shabby Brick Bits & Spirit of Heartland I first pre-inked before embossing with the Verdant Embossing Powder with some detailing in Oatmeal Embossing Powder.

Behind the picture I layered Heartland - Kiss Kiss and Love song Serenade paper details with lace and other embellishments.  I used a variety of  beautiful Blue Fern Studios flowers to add to the layout. Adding some micro beads and sequins around the page for that extra sparkle.

Farewell 'Christmas' Projects
by Nicole Doiron

What a bittersweet post this is for me, as after a year of being on this wonderful team,
this is my last post as DT member on the Blue Fern Studios blog.
Through the year, I have been blessed with wonderful scrappy friends,
fabulous quality products from generous owner Leslie and inspiration galore.
I am forever grateful of having been given this amazing opportunity
and will forever hold a special place in my heart for Blue Fern Studios.

***

I've got 3 projects featuring the very festive
Vintage Christmas collections 1 & 2.

The Vintage Christmas collections not only offer beautiful Christmas patterns,
but also include lots of papers that are perfect for Winter-themed layouts like this plaid print.

To go along with it, I chose several Winter chipboard pieces including the Snow Medley board, covered in Snow embossing powder with a touch of glitter dust, and these adorable mittens from the Cozy Christmas set on which I used It's a Girl and Blue Sky.

You see below the Dangled Flake piece which I cut in half as I wanted to save some of it
for another project. I added several flowers from the new kits, Christmas Blooms
and Soft Blossoms.  I sprinkled lots of silver microbeads throughout my page.

I chose A Wonderful Life, covered in Snow, as the title to which I added the word Cozy
which I 'stole' from the Cozy Christmas piece, as that is exactly the word that comes to mind
when I look at this picture of Yves and I cozying up to each other
for a selfie during a Winter stroll.

Blue Fern Studios products used:

Patterned Papers: Vintage Christmas 1 (Greeting Cards);
Vintage Christmas 2 (Let It Snow, 'Twas the Night, Holiday Cards)
Chipboard: A Wonderful Life, Snow Medley, Cozy Christmas, Dangled Flake
Flowers: Christmas Blooms, Soft Blossoms
Imagine Ink: Embossing Powders (Snow, Blue Sky, It's a Girl)

My next project is another layout, this time documenting a very special Christmas wish.

Before I met Yves, I had spent many a Holiday season surrounded by family and friends, but still somewhat lonely, wishing for true love, the kind of love that lasts a lifetime. My wish came true in 2006 and, since then, I get to spend every Christmas with my life partner, my soulmate, my best friend.  This picture was taken on Christmas eve a couple years ago. That is why I chose the title 'Twas the Night Before Christmas as the title, on which I used the new Santa's Suit embossing powder.  It's red and glittery and perfect for any Christmas project!

On my background, I used the Weathered Doilies stamp with the Ebony powder.
I added Holly Springs, covered with Sage and Santa's Suit, to my flower cluster and
bits of Mixed Chains, covered in 14Karat, along the top and bottom of my picture.

Here you see a piece of the Holiday Vine, all decorated in gold.

And a final close-up of my Christmas wish come true!

Patterned Papers: Vintage Christmas 1 (Magical, Greeting Cards)
Vintage Christmas 2 ('Twas the Night, Jolly)
Chipboard: 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, Holiday Vine, Holly Sprigs, Mixed Chains

Stamp: Weathered Doilies
Imagine Ink: Embossing Powders (14Karat, Ebony, Santa's Suit, Sage)

***

I realize this has turned out to be quite a long post, but bare with me please... it is my last! :)

And speaking of last, this is my last DT project... a trio of Christmas cards.

What is great about the Vintage Christmas Greeting Cards and Holiday Cards papers
is that they are full of beautiful journaling cards and images, perfect for card making.

On this card, I used the Holiday vine and some Holly Sprigs chippies.

I also took a cream flower from the Soft Blossoms and turned it red using
the Santa's Suit embossing powder.

On Card 2, you can see the leftover Dangled Flake from my Winter page above.

These little leaves are the negative pieces from the Holly Sprigs.

I love all the beautiful vintage imagery from these papers.

Card 3 is set up on a misted and stenciled background.

You can see here that I added red gems on the Holly Sprigs.  The leaves were treated with Clover embossing powder and then dabbed with white paint for my signature white washing.

I cut a side of the Stars & Berries Frame, covered it in Snow embossing powder and
added a touch of the new Vintage Gold glitter on the stars.
