February Projects by Melinda Thompson

Hello there everyone :)

I am happy to be here today to share with you all my February projects for Blue Fern Studios.

I can't get enough of the Ombre Dreams paper range...such beautiful colours. I have created this layout using Julianna's Dream as well as Dream Cards in my layers.

"Adore"

Kind of had a little fun with this layout.  I used some chipboard from the Chunky Heart Panel which I just cut out bits that I needed, covered them with gesso and then added some crackle paint over the top. Using some of the negative hearts from the panel piece, I added them in random places and sprinkled them with glass beads for a cool effect.

I have also used the word "Adore" for my title from the Adore, Love Cherish pack and a Romantic Page Dangle.

Chipboard: Romantic Page Dangle, Chunky Heart Panel, Adore, Electic Heart

My next project is a personal project, something just for me.
I have used papers from the Montage Collection: Invitation and Calling Cards.

"Noted"

I have used a few various pieces of chipboard on this layout.  I have used the Turkish Bits chipboard on the background, the Swirly Doodle layered next to my photo and an Arrow word "Noted" .  In among my flower cluster you will also notice a piece from the nested circle set. All have been primed with gesso first and then lots of different inks and mists to alter them.

Happy Scrapping :)

Two Layouts & A Canvas Creation by Kim Price

Hello everyone. My name is Kim Price and I live with my husband and two grown up daughters on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia - which is about an hours drive north of Sydney.

I've always had an interest in the arts, but I began my scrapbook journey around 12 years ago when I accidentally stumbled upon a scrapbooking shop and I was completely drawn in. I love to combine art mediums into my projects and I'm probably mostly known for my customised backgrounds and mixed media style. I'm really excited to be joining Blue Fern Studios in 2015!

Today I wanted to share a few of the projects I've been working on featuring lots of chipboard and stunning patterned paper collections. I've created two 12"x12" scrapbook layouts, one is based on this month's Sketch Challenge and a sweet little baby themed canvas.

My first layout is based on the January sketch challenge. I've used Blue Fern Studios Montage Now & Then patterned paper, fussy cutting some of the images from the paper layering them together with torn strips of paper from the leftover as shown in the photograph below.

I've used "Crossing The Lines" chipboard element behind my photograph for a lattice effect, adding my title "adorable" from the "Good Vibes" pack and finishing the whole thing off with a sweet little flying bird shape from "Little Birds"

My second project is another 12"x12" layout - this time featuring the brand new collection, Sanctuary for a completely different look and style.

For my second layout I've kept embellishments to a minimum to really make the new Sanctuary papers shine. I've hand painted some plain cardstock using shades of beige and soft aqua then torn a sheet of Meadows Of Time patterned paper across the bottom edge and laid it over my cardstock.

I've taken a second sheet of Meadows Of Time paper and trimmed all of the flower elements along with the bird image, arranging the flowers between the papers as show above for a layered look.

The "Twiggy Branch" chipboard was first given a coat of gesso, allowed to dry then I've painted it with a layer or two of watercolor, adhering tiny flowers and leaves along the branches.

I've painted the Small Garden Daisy chipboard element and the "All Natural" title in an antique white acrylic paint - tucking the flower stem behind the bird element and layering my title on top.

And my final project for today is a small canvas with a baby theme featuring a photograph of one of my precious angels when she was just newborn.

I first added some color and texture to my canvas background, allowed it to dry then layered elements from Montage Calling Cards patterned paper, including the sweet little fussy cut cherub image and tiny butterfly.

I've then added color to one of the Romantic Page Dangles, trimming into three pieces and layering two of the smaller pieces across the top of the canvas and placing the larger heart shape dangle along the right side tucked beneath my photograph. My Perfect title from the "Chunky Words" pack was again simply painted with acrylic paint in a shade of aqua to coordinate the design.

Thanks for dropping in today, I hope you've enjoyed my projects and I look forward to sharing more soon.

Two Layouts and a Card with Rae

Hello! It's Rae with you today and I'm sharing some projects I made with the Montage and Ombre Dreams paper lines.

"Twinkle" Layout

For this layout I used the Montage paper collection.  It's based on our November sketch. Check out the sketch challenge HERE. There's still time to play along!

Here's a closeup of the Quatrefoil Panel piece that I cut to size. I used pink, white, and gold embossing powders to get this effect.

Here's a closeup of the title that I used from the Winter Titles set. I kept this treatment simple by using gold embossing powder.

In this close up, you can see the piece of the Heart Border that I cut and painted with a whitewash.

I also cut up the Organic Vine Corner. I painted it with a dimensional green paint, and sprinkled it with green embossing powders and heated it up until the paint was bubbly.

"Follow Your Dreams..." Card

I really wanted to fit this card in a standard envelope, so I made it as flat as I could! I used some of my scraps from the Montage line.

Here's a closeup that shows the treatment of the Mixed Chains and part of a Ginger's Poppies piece. I used grey and black ink pads directly on the chipboard without priming it.

Mommy's Boy

I used papers from the Ombre Dreams and the Montage lines.

In this closeup, you can see the Corner Flourish. I also used a Mini Flourish on the other side of my flower cluster. I scraped these pieces with a black archival ink pad that desperately needs to be reinked, but it worked for this layout. :)

For the Mommy's Boy title piece, I used a turquoise embossing powder, then used that same archival ink pad to give it a worn look.

For the Romantic Page Dangle, I used grey chalk ink, then some black distressed embossing powder in random places. I also touched it with some blue chalk ink to soften the look of it.

Thanks for stopping by to check out my projects today! Check back often- our team is always posting amazing creations!

Ombre Dreams projects with Rae

Hello all! It's Rae sharing some projects I've made using the amazing new paper line, Ombre Dreams. I have to say that I LOVE this paper so much!

"Dreams Come True" Layout

This is my layout based on the June sketch.

I used the "Dream Cards" paper to make the title. I wanted to use this piece of the "Layering Stems" set  in this flower cluster, but I only had ONE! What's a girl to do? Well, I soaked that piece in water for a few minutes, then peeled the layers, and got three pieces out of it! This is a great way to get a lighter look with chipboard, and let it flow and give a little different kind of dimension. After the pieces dried, I painted them with green paint and added some darker green ink for a realistic look.

I primed the "Renaissance Border" with gesso, and added some purple microbeads while the gesso was still wet. The beads only stuck in some places, and gives it a unique look. After the gesso was dry, I misted the whole piece with some peach colored mist.

I added a a "Royal Page Bauble" that I painted gold using distress stain.

 "Wonder" Layout

I adore cemetery statues! I found this picture on Reddit, and there was no photographer listed to give credit to, but MAN! What an amazing photo! I printed it out some time ago, and it seemed to fit so well with the "Ginger's Dream" paper.

I painted the "Ginger's Poppies" pieces with gesso, then added some green watercolor for the leaves and stems, then added some watered down Izink to the flowers, which resisted in some spots- AWESOME!
 Here's the other poppy.

One of the layers behind the photo is the "Grand Garden Gate." I used a combination of distress stains, distress inks, and chalk inks to get this patina look.

"All You Need is Love" Layout

This is one of my favorite pictures of me and my son. I've made a few layouts with this picture before, but my family has taken them! This one is just for me.

Again, I primed the "Small Circle Flourish" with gesso and painted the leaves and flowers with some green and purple mists to give a watercolor look. Then, I added some flowers. See that heart lock? I cut that from one of the "Romantic Page Dangles" and colored it with silver Izink and grey chalk ink.

Here I cut up more "Romantic Page Dangles" so I could use the chains to accent the larger chain which is from the "Page Chains" set, and used the same products I did on the heart lock.

The key is from the "Vintage Keys" set. I lightly scraped black archival ink over the key.

Thanks for having a look at my pages using Ombre Dreams! Have a great day!
