Projects for May by Lydia Guijt

Hello Paper and Blue Fern Studios friends!

This month our new collection Happy Accident is a big favorite of mine. Love the designs and wonderful colors. To top it all off Blue Ferns Studios also created a Printed Chipboard sheet to compliment the papers. What's not to love.
Let's check out my first layout!

Beauty in Chaos

To show of these wonderful new Happy Accident Chipboard Pieces I created this layout. Whenever I create you should see my table. Yes you guessed it. Chaos. So I found this particular title perfect to make a layout with .

I started with the Halftone and London Chronicle stamps to create some interest on the Fate background page. Because the page already has circles on there I decided to keep up with that theme.

The Circle Group Pieces I embossed with Ebony and the Mini Ring Things with the gorgeous new Plum color. Perfect fit with this new collection. Now it's time to create my layers and started stacking. Having all the interesting parts pop out. The beautiful light green Late Winter Lily matched perfectly. To fine tune the look I added some thread, lace, I die-cut some leaves and some sparkle with the new Pea Soup glitter, some mists, beads and bling.
I hope you like it!

For my second layout I'm using an older collection, Paisley & Vine. Beautiful papers with gorgeous contrasting colors, details and even some abstract patterns.
When we visited Las Vegas I took photos of this statue that I wanted to use. The Metal trees surrounding it in the red is what made the decision to use this collection the winner.

I layered the SplendorPassion and Pathway papers so the red just shows a thin outline.
With the Tattered News Print stamp I stamped randomly around the page. Now with one of my stencils I added some texture with paste.
The Bits of Honeycomb were embossed with Icicle, the Graduated Circle, leftover part from the Swirly Circle and Chesterville Doodle embossed with Speckled Mint with some Peacock Glitter sprinkled over it too. The leaves I've used on the layout are cut out Blooms & Stems stamp prints embossed with Fern.

Now that we have all the building blocks for our layout prepared we can put it together. For some layering under the photo I cut up pieces from the Playing Cards sheet. Using one of the cards as the title. Layering the chipboard pieces and placing the flowers including the Late Winter Lilies to finish of the layout.

~ Hello, September with Sandi ~

Hello, hello!
Thanks so much for coming by the blog today.
Sandi here with you today sharing my September creations.
It is always so exciting to go in my scrap room and play with my Blue Fern Studios projects!
I love being a part of this team.

"Summer Vacation, Lucy Style"

First up: I haven't done a "Lucy" page in a while, so this old photo of Lucy fishing is perfect for using my Seaside Cottage papers. I've used both sides of the Splendor paper so that I could slit the grooves between the wood panels and distress them a bit. I've only used a minimal amount of mixed media so that the beautiful images would be dominant. Just a bit of colorizing with Cotton Candy Imagine Mist and stenciling.

To get a uniform look, all three pieces of chipboard were treated the same way. First they were primed with white gesso, then heat embossed with a combination of Ginger and Chili Powder Embossing Powder. The large lantern from the Seaside Lanterns set got a heavier dose of Chili Powder, It was simply tucked in amongst my flowers and other paper layers.  The Harvest Lilies are new to the store and they seemed to work perfectly for this layout!

I thought the chain and lantern would complete the corner of this page and indeed, they fit beautifully and balanced the design.

I love the chunky look of the Summer Vacation chipboard and tried to give it a bit more ombre' look with my two powders. I left sections of the chipboard less heated for an interesting texture.

A good close-up of the dimension you can achieve with your layers, chipboard and flowers. The photo was framed with Seaside Cottage Mermaid and Calling Cards.

Blue Fern Studios Products used:

Paper: Seaside Cottage Splendor, Mermaid, Calling Cards
Chipboard: Seaside Lanterns, Summer Vacation
Embossing Powder: Ginger, Chili Powder
Mist: Cotton Candy
Flowers: Harvest Lilies

"Fall Memories"

My granddaughter KK loves her horses! She recently sent a few photos that I'm sure she's hoping to see on some scrapbook pages! LOL I pulled out one of my favorite collections … Autumn Anthology because I knew it would work perfectly with her blue checked shirt and her horse's coat. Because I had a wide section of blue background using the Robin paper, I was able to do some simple stenciling without covering up any pretty images. The Mercantile paper is an absolute fave of mine and I've torn it into strips. It's a busy design but the colors and images are wonderful.

I have a lot of layers of chipboard going here and it's hard to photograph because they are semi-covered with the photo layer. But I used the Mini Ring Things as a bottom left layer and also around the edges of the page. These were inked and embossed with Ginger and given a smidgen bit of Burnt Copper Glitter for shine. The next layer, other than the paper was the Flourish Medley piece which was cut in half to lengthen it. It was embossed with Ebony Embossing Powder as well as Ginger, topped off with bits of the Burnt Copper Glitter. The Collage Frame was treated the same and is directly beneath my matted photo.

I wanted to share just a closer view of the frame and flourish pieces. They look divine in real life!

For flowers, I combined some of the Tranquil Blooms with our Seaside Lilies. A Calling Card serves as my title.

I'm hooked on these side views because depth, layers and texture are "my thing!"

"Remember Moments"

This "Mermaid" paper has become the signature paper from the Seaside Cottage collection and I love it! My original intent was to use it for an old photo of my dad but that will have to come another time …. once I get more of these papers. However, I was itching to scrap this brother and sister photo taken near a beach. Photo credit to the Souza's photographer, name unknown.

Since everyone has already used this paper, I decided to "go big or go home" and used the large title "Remember Moments." Otherwise, it's actually a quite simple page. Under my photo I've used the Crossing the Lines chipboard. Both of these large pieces were inked and treated with some old rusting powders.

Seaside Gala and Calling Cards papers were torn and tucked under my photo and on top of the chipboard. Cheesecloth was used as a base. I'm loving how versatile the Blue Fern Studios lilies are.

A close-up of the title and also a view of some of the random stamping.

The stenciling is light but yet ties the theme together. Now this layout is headed off to this sister who is missing her brother while he's away on the mission field.

Blue Fern Studios Products used:

Paper: Seaside Cottage Mermaid, Gala, Calling Cards
Chipboard: Remember Moments, Crossing the Lines
Flowers: Dark Tropic, Late Winter and Seaside Lilies, Courtship blooms
Stamp: Widgets

That's all for now!
See you next month!

July Inspiration With Debbie, Featuring Serendipity and Sanctuary

Hi everyone!  Hope everyone here in the USA is enjoying their summer.  The weather has been up and down, sunny, hot, mild and breezy with a twist of rain. Can't complain though.  Lots of time to spend outdoors on the weekends!  Today I have three layouts to share created with the Serendipity and Sanctuary paper collections, along with lots of chipboard, embossing powders, glitter and  flowers.
My first layout features the Serendipity paper collection and a sweet photo of a friend's daughter.   I used the Merriment paper for the background and added some texture  with some masking, paint splatters, misting with the Imagine Ink Sky and Cotton Candy Mists, along with some random stamping with the Garden Frolic stamp.   The layers under the photo are from Calling Cards, Anticipation, Chronicle and Fascination.

I used the Deja Vu Dangle Chippies here, embossed with many colors, Mushroom, Snow, Auburn, Fuchsia and Breeze.

To the side of my photo is a cluster of Blue Fern flowers, including the Attic Charm Daisies and Glitter Roses along with some Tranquil Lilies.  I cut apart a Berry Stem chipboard piece which was embossed with a mixture of Auburn and 14 Karat embossing powders.  I added a few metal flowers which were embossed with Snow, 14 Karat, Breeze and Fuchsia embossing powders.

Here I've placed pieces of the Quatrefoil Panel and Tangier Page Panel, both embossed with Snow, 14 Karat, Breeze and Fuchsia embossing powders along with a sprinkling of Blue Ice and The Pink Ladies Imagine Ink Glitter.

My next layout features the Glee paper from the Serendipity collection.   I added some  masking and paint splatters.  Layers  underneath the photo are from the Imagination paper and Keepsakes paper from the Timeless collection.  I had a lot of fun working on this layout mixing embossing powders to compliment my picture, which I took it a few years ago.  I have a big planter on my deck full of daisies.

The Blooming Flourish chipboard was embossed with a mixture of Verdant, Sage and Auburn embossing powers.  I cut the flourish in half and used it on both sides of my photo.  The Royal Monarch Butterfly and Mini Ring Things chipboard were covered in brown ink and then embossed with a mixture of Verdant, Auburn, Chili Power and Tangerine Embossing Powders.

The title is from the Brilliant, Amazing, Dazzling word set, embossed with the same mixture of embossing powers I used on the butterfly and mini rings.  I used a stencil on the background with some brown texture paste and sprinkled on some Autumn Glitter and Auburn embossing powder.

My third layout  was created using papers from the Sanctuary Collection.  I used the Botanical Garden for my background and added some random masking.

The Floral Lattice Bits Chipboard was embossed with Mushroom and lightly ink with cranberry and purple inks.

The title is from The Optimist Word set, which I lightly inked with purple.  I used two purple roses from Courtship Blooms which I sprinkled with some Merlot Glitter and then misted a darker purple.
