Cathi's August Seaside Cottage Projects

Hello my scrappy friends! This month my projects are coming a little later as I was on holiday at the start of the month, taking these lovely photos at Cannon Beach in Oregon!   I have made two layouts and done a Project Life spread using the gorgeous Seaside Cottage papers.  I also did something a little different and used my gorgeous beachy papers in my planner! I have recently become obsessed with Project Life and Planning and wanted to show how you can used these beautiful vintage papers to work with both these types of creative papercrafting!

My first layout features a great photo of my brother ("Uncle B") and my two girls. I just love it. This Seaside Cottage Mermaid is just stunning, I love all the detail and gorgeous imagery and wanted to show it off so didn't go too heavy on my background work and made the layers, flowers and chipboard enhance the already gorgeous design.

Here you can see the papers that I used to layer, some cut outs from the Calling Cards sheet and the beautiful Relics paper.  I absolutely love this gorgeous Seaside Lantern chipboard piece and I embossed it with the stunning and glittery 14 Karat Imagine Ink Embossing Powder.

Aren't these new Late Winter and Harvest Lilies amazing? I just love the distressed look they have and the beautiful colors! I added some Courtship Roses and some shells from my stash to the floral cluster. I also tucked in some Crackle Bits pieces in the cluster! I used the Poinsettia Imagine Ink Embossing Powder on the Crackle Bits for a bit of coral/red/gold effect on the pieces.

I added a bit of stamping in Faded Jean and Walnut Stain Distress Inks to add some interest to the background of the layout, using some of my favorite standbys, the netting from the Essential Textures stamp set and the diamond pattern from the Forever set.

I love this Perfect Day chipboard piece, and it really was the end to a perfect day hanging out with family at a beautiful beach!!  I tucked in a tag for some private journaling and I embossed the title chipboard with the same stunning 14 Karat Imagine Ink Embossing Powder.  I hope you enjoy this layout, it is one of my current favorites!!

I have a ballet mad daughter who is always striking ballet poses at the most random times! She did a number of poses on the beach this day, and asked for us to take some photos for her to share on Instagram lol!  For this layout I used several papers. My base layer is the Whitewash paper which I layered the Embark paper on top of and edged with some machine stitching. Of course I had to add in some layers and a cute beach sign cut from the Calling Cards paper which I find perfect for adding details to all my projects, including my next project, a Project Life spread!!

Here is a closeup of my cluster on the bottom of the page. I added some beautiful flowers including the gorgeous blue one from the Dark Tropical Lilies set and a Courtship Rose. I have an unending stash of shells to add to my beachy layouts so I tucked in lots of them here. I used the Summer Vacation chipboard piece and I love the sand and sea effect I got using the Oatmeal Imagine Ink Embossing Powder along with the Seven Seas Imagine Ink Embossing Powder added along the bottom of "vacation".  You can see a Calling Card cut out that I tucked in under the cluster here too.

Here is another flower cluster again using a beautiful blue lily from the Dark Tropical Lilies set and the soft coral color of the Seaside Lilies set. I of course added some shells from my stash and here you can see the stamp and masking work I did in the background.  I find the Making Plans stamp amazing as it has beautiful script, text, and several other patterns that you can use just sections of to add specific textures to a layout...it makes it feel like a half dozen texture stamps in one! I used just the print section of text from the stamp and added it randomly around the layout.  I also used the circles from the Halftone stamp set and my favorite netting stamp from Essential Textures.

Here you can see the beautiful Seashell Frame I used to frame the photo of my daughter. I again used the two toned effect of sand and sea with the Oatmeal Imagine Ink Embossing Powder along with the Seven Seas Imagine Ink Embossing Powder.

And here is a full image of my ballerina in motion. To finish off the layout you can see more of the stamping I did and bit of masking and molding paste texture I did. I used the same Faded Jeans and Walnut Stain Distress Inks to add background stamping and texture as my last layout, I think the blues and browns are perfect for beachy layouts!

For my last project it is really a whole bunch of different projects in my new genres of papercrafting I am loving this year, Project Life and planning/journaling!!  I have done this very vintage Project Life layout above using many  many cut outs from the Calling Cards paper as well as the Relics distressed pink paper. The title of this spread is A Walk on the Beach. I love that this chipboard fit perfectly into a 4x6 pocket on my Project Life page protector! For both the Walk on the Beach and the Smile chipboard from Arrow Words, I have used a two toned effect using the Honey and Breeze Imagine Ink Embossing Powders, I just love the look of it!  The shells and starfish are from the Seaside Seashells and Seaside Treasures sets and those have been embossed in the Honey Imagine Ink Embossing Powders. The word all come from the cutouts on the Calling Cards paper and I have layered them with some of the journal cards from the sheets as well. I have typed out some journaling and printed it onto the Seaside Memories cut apart journal card. All my photos are of my girls and my brother and his wife at Cannon Beach, a great day that deserved to be commemorated.

I have an A6 Hobonichi journal I used for watercoloring and writing about my day, it comes with a clear cover under which you can add your own paper to customize your journal. I did exactly that and really love the way it turned out!!  I used the Voyage paper for my base, adding stitching around the edges. I then layered the gorgeous mermaid image from the Calling Cards paper.  for my flower cluster I used the Late Winter and Harvest Lilies, again adding shells from my stash. I love the dolphin and mermaid chipboards from the Ocean Mermaid set. I embossed the chipboard with Chili Powder Imagine Ink Embossing Powder and then added some word stickers to finish it off!  On the left I have a simple laminated bookmark/pencil board to mark my page. I have used the Splendor paper and a gorgeous image from the Calling Card paper.

My planner is a handmade traveler's notebook, which is basically just a notebook cover with elastics on the spine to add several sets of notebooks in it. Mine has a monthly and weekly calendar and a reference notebook. I just love changing out my notebooks every month and adding different covers. I have used the gorgeous Whitewash paper on the left and laminated it to make a "dashboard" this is a more permanent cover which people often use to also store sticky notes  etc on the inside. The notebook cover on the right isn't laminated and is attached to the actual notebook which gets removed and changed out monthly. I have used the Splendor paper for my base for the notebook cover and an image from the Calling Card page.

I love to make folders for my travelers notebook to add a few more pockets to store things in! This houses my stickers I tend to use! I have chosen the Gala paper to make my notebook.

Here is a view of the inside of my folder...it actually has 4 pockets, I find the taller pockets great for receipts!  I hope you like my different projects, a new way to use the gorgeous Blue Fern papers!!

July inspiration by Elena Volchkova

Hi everyone! Today is my day to talk about the dreams and inspiration. And it is the sea today. My new love - a collection Seaside Cottage. And the first two pages of it.

"Marine dreams" layout

In this work, it embodied gentle and romantic thoughts about the sea.. The sea always gives us great emotions, it is always waiting for us, and we look forward to seeing him ... waiting and dreaming.

The background is very complicated. I used the Embark paper as my background. And the mix of lace, twigs, beads. And paint, paint, paint!

Anticipation from "Serendipity Words 1" set was covered with Imagine Ink Lilac embossing powders.

Seaside Flourish was covered with mixture of Imagine Ink embossing powders in Petal and 14 karat, that so good together.
Flower from " Seaside Lilies" set.

To show the sun glare, I used Sunshine glitter. It's so sunny!

Seaside Flourish I cut into two parts and this piece has become accent in the corner. Colored to with mixture of Imagine Ink embossing powders in Petal and 14 karat.

Blue Fern Studios Supply List:
Paper: Seaside Cottage - Embark
Chipboard: Seaside Flourish, Ocean Mermaid, Serendipity Words 1
Imagine Ink Embossing Powder: Lilac, Petal, 14 karat
Glitters: Sunshine
Flowers: Seaside Lilies

"Family trip" layout

In this layout there is the story of one wonderful holiday, when a little girl was vacationing on the sea. Photos preserve for us the memory and emotions. This is so wonderful! You can always go back to childhood;)
I used the Voyage paper from the Seaside Cottage Collection as my background paper. And a lot of romantic and tropical details.

These flashlights enchanted me. They are magic! I wanted to use them together, just a little bit in different shades.

Large lantern was covered with mixture of Imagine Ink embossing powders in Honey and Mystic Plum. Little is also covered with a mixture. But other shades - Petal and 14 karat Imagine Ink embossing powders.

Stamps Forever and Postal Textures helps to make an interesting background.

"Reminisce" I covered to with Imagine Ink Mystic Plum embossing powder.

In this work I use the flowers of the sets: Attic Charm Daisies, Seaside Lilies and Attic Charm Glitter Roses.

Blue Fern Studios Supply List:
Paper: Seaside Cottage - Voyage
Chipboard: Seaside Lanterns, Serendipity Words 2
Stamp: Forever, Postal Textures
Imagine Ink Embossing Powder: 14 karat, Honey, Petal, Mystic Plum

Flowers: Attic Charm Daisies, Seaside Lilies, Attic Charm Glitter Roses.

"In the Garden" layout

Layout for a girl who loves to be photographed. In this work I tried to continue flowers of pictures in the background and in the decor. I think a bush was very interesting.

Petite window secreted in the bushes behind the curtains of lace. Window was covered with Imagine Ink 14 karat embossing powders.

I used the Serendipity Medley stamp with Imagine Ink 14 karat embossing powder to create some details on my background. They are almost invisible, but they sparkle in the sun.

"Reminisce" I covered to with Imagine Ink Mystic Plum embossing powder.
Sparkles on the background - Dusty Rose Glitter.

Blue Fern Studios Supply List:
Paper: Attic Charm - Attic Key
Chipboard: Serendipity Words 2, Petite Windows

Getting Inspired with Attic Charm

Hello friends!

Today I'm popping in to share my June creations for Blue Fern Studios, featuring another beautiful collection from Michelle Singh - Attic Charm! The papers are decked in so many gorgeous subtle details and pretty colors, not to mention reminders of the good ole days that I went to dig out old photos of my parents for the two projects I've made.

First is a layout of a photo of my folks when they were dating back in '73.

When I saw the b/w photo, I had tried to imagine what it would have looked like in color and all that came to mind was the blue sky. So I had built most of the layout around the color and chose the paper "Haberdashery" as my background paper.

More details in the close-ups:

Some bits of the Looped Frame chipboard here. I had stamped with Romantic Accents stamp and heat embossed with Imagine Ink Ebony EP before painting over with duo-toned acrylic paint.

Fussy cut flowers for layering, and subtitles from Calling Cards.

A heat-embossed image with Ebony EP using one of the Bourbon Street stamps. Love the details here!

Another view of the floral cluster.

My title piece "Always and Forever" which I had painted with Perfect Pearls.

Blue Fern Studios products used:

paper: Attic Charm - Haberdashery, Calling Cards, Generation, Mercantile, Sachet
chipboard: Looped Frames, Always and Forever
stamps: Bourbon Street, Romantic Accents
Embossing powder: Ebony

My second project is a video tutorial and I've repurposed an IKEA photo frame for the project. My parents don't have a lot of their photos on display so I hope they will find a good place to put this up.

The Dangles Border chipboard was a fun piece to use because it resembles lace. I had also die cut out a clock from the "Sachet" paper. One fabulous thing about Blue Fern's papers (and my students keep reminding me too) is that they are thicker than most other brands of patterned paper out there. This means that if you have delicate die cut designs, the paper is very unlikely to tear and can take the weight of any other mediums you might want to add.

Other details in the close-ups:

Attic Charm daisies are the perfect addition.

Layering Stems - one of my favourites! Seen together with Attic Charm daisies and glitter roses.

The die cut clock with lots of details in the background.

Altered Dangles Border with a bit of sparkle.

Lots of fussy cut details again.

And here is the start to finish video for this project. Sit back and enjoy!
