February Projects by Cathi O'Neill

Got a whole lotta love, for these three! For the Blue Fern February Sketch I have made a layout featuring my husband and two girls. If you peek between their heads you can see the Shannon River and the Clare hills in the background, I just love where we live!  This layout features the Blue Fern Studios Blush Collection, Devoted and Calling Card papers.

And here is the gorgeous sketch we used:

I used a lot of layers for my layout, all from the gorgeous Calling Cards paper. I tucked in some Tattered Diamond Bits covering them with the Imagine Ink Oatmeal Embossing Powder and used the Heart Set which I embossed with Imagine Ink Cotton Candy Embossing Powder.

I've used a lot of gorgeous flowers from my stash and added a twine bow. You can see the Postal Textures stamp I used  in the background along with some masking and splashes.

My next project is a set of canvases, again using the gorgeous Blush Collecition. this time the Celebration and Enamoured papers and lots of gorgeous Blue Fern Studios chipboard.

I really wanted to try a folk art angel in the style of Kelly Rae Roberts, so my canvas on the left is my version of it!!The skin, bodice and skirt are all made from Blush papers and I used a ton of stamps on these!

In this close-up you can see the gorgeous Essential Textures Netting stamp.I wanted something inspirational for my angel so I printed out onto some of the Blush sheets, "She thought she could. So she did."  For some extra depth of color I added gelato pigments to the edges of the skirts and the canvas.

For my angel's wings I used the flying wheel stamp from the Widgets stamp set and fussy cut them out!  The angel got her necklace from the Beads and Charms set.  I used the gorgeous Grassy Knoll Imagine Ink Embossing Powder to do some background masking and also on one of the Ornate Medallions. I also used more of the Ornate Medallions cut in half for part of her dress and as decoration on the canvas, these were covered with Cotton Candy Imagine Ink Embossing Powder.

I love my second canvas as well. It is a simpler design but I used the same papers and colors to tie the two together. Here you can see that I colored in the Follow Your Bliss chipboard with the same gelato colors I used on the angel canvas. I love the way I was able to layer the frame, butterlies and title.

For the Royal Monarch butterfly I used Cotton Candy Imagine Ink Embossing Powder. You can see around the edge here that I used more gelatos, the Essential Textures and the Needlework stamps.

At the base of my design I used the beautiful Ever After Frame and embossed it with Grassy Knoll Imagine Ink Embossing Powder.

My final project uses our newest paper line Serendipity! I just fell in love with this at first sight, so beautiful and vintage grungy! For my base I used the beautiful Serendipity Contemplation paper.

I have done my favorite thing to do with Blue Fern papers and used the Calling Cards cut apart page to layer behind my vintage image photo. I used the strip from the bottom of the paper as part of the design as well!

Here you can see where I have used one of the Graduated Circles frames to frame my image. I covered the frame in some gorgeous Claret Imagine Ink Glitter!  I made the frame a little more grungy by adding some gesso on top of the glitter .  You can just about see the chipboard flower in the frame. It is from the All Natural set and the stem is embossed with Imagine Ink Sage Embossing Powder while the flower has gorgeous Dusty Rose.Imagine Ink Glitter

Here you can see the flowers and nest I used from my stash. Tucked in with the flowers you can see another piece from the All Natural set, the little leaves which I have embossed with the Imagine Ink Sage Embossing Powder..

To finish off my layout with a title I chose Natural Beauty from the All Natural set, again embossed in Imagine Ink Sage Embossing Powder. As a final touch I added some splashes in pink and some stamping using the netting from the Essential Textures stamp set and the diamond pattern from the Forever stamp set..  Isn't this paper line just gorgeous? Thank you so much for stopping by and visiting!

White Wash

Hi everyone!  It's Valerie today with a few layouts using the amazing new collection from Blue Fern Studios -Ombré Dreams.  After I created my first two layouts, I realized a pattern.  I was treating all the chipboard pieces with white paint.  So I kept with that trend for all 3 layouts.

For this layout,  I wanted to keep things simple and really let the photo and soft background pattern show through.  I have used the Wild Flourish Bundle which was painted white.  I first primed the chipboard with gesso, and then painted it with Titanium White paint.  I find it gives a whiter white than just using gesso.
This paper is Leslie's Dream

To add a little color, I brushed some orange ink on the edges, which you can see better in the close-up image below.

This image shows the glorious goodness of this paper!  Aren't the details amazing?

For my next layout, I chose the beautiful blue Susan's Dream paper from the Ombré Dreams collection, since my niece has such beautiful blue eyes.

The following 2 close ups show the Twilight Garden Frame, which I cut in half.  I tucked one half to the right of the photo, and the remaining part of the frame can be seen to the left.  I primed these pieces, painted them white, then stamped them with a script stamp.  Instead of using black, I used a softer gray chalk ink.

I inked the Calligraphic Border with one of the same colors of distress ink that I used with a stencil.

For my third layout, it was pink all the way!  I began with the Shannon's Dream paper.  I chose the less patterned side of the paper because I wanted to add some book paper and lots of mist.

I used several pieces of chipboard on this layout.  Initially I painted them all white, but ended up applying embossing powder to some of them.  Here you can see the lamp from the Second Hand Furnishings set.  I used some chunky embossing powder on this one.  You can also see a piece of the Leafy Page Accents that I cut into several pieces and used throughout the layout.

Here I have used one of the Ornate Medallions, which was painted white and embossed.

In the main cluster I have used the Ornate Medallions, Doodle Flowers and Leafy Page Accents, which I have painted white.  A few of them have also been heat embossed.

Once again I used gray ink and mist on this layout.  I really like it instead of black on light colored layouts.

I hope you enjoy your day, and thanks for stopping by!

Kelly's April Projects

Hello there, Blue Fern fans :)
Kelly here today. I have a long post...three layouts today, so I'll get right to it!!

"So Sweet"

For this one, I went back to one of my all time favorite pieces of BFS chipboard...the Floral Clock
I covered this piece with embossing ink, then sprinkled three different embossing enamels..gold, ivory, and copper for a variety of color and texture. For the clock center I added another clock embellishment and clock hands.

Tucked into the bottom of this cluster is another "older" favorite, the Ornate Medallions. This one was also given a coating of copper embossing enamel.

"Perfect Moment"

I chose to use the gorgeous Blue Fern Garden papers for this one, as the colors worked perfectly with my photos - I love when that happens!

I started with the "Boudoir" paper, and layered strips from other Garden papers.  Over the paper strips, I added  two of the Jeweled Page Dangles, which were embossed with a light pink embossing enamel. I also have used one of the Flourish Hearts, which I cut apart and tucked the heart half, and the flourish half on either side of my photos.

"I Love You So"

For this one, I fussy cut the beautiful rose and bird cage motifs from the Blue Fern Garden papers, and placed them strategically on my page.  Below I have used one of the Memory Frames, simply painted white.

I added one of the Grande Cages, which was first painted white, then given a brushing of chalk ink.

The small flower border piece below is the "cut out" from one of the Floral Hearts. Once again, I just painted it white to make it really stand out!

Ornate Medallions
Blue Fern Garden: Boudoir
Blue Fern Garden: Calling Cards
Blue Fern Garden: Signature

I hope you've enjoyed my projects today :)
Have a wonderful week!

A layout and a tag with Camilla

Hi everybody! I am Camilla Ekman and I am so happy to be a returning design team member here at Blue Fern Studios! Yay! And guess what...I have some new Blue Fern Studios projects to share.

First I have made a baby layout using two of the Spring Branch and one of the Grande Cages. These chipboards I have painted with white gesso and then stamped with embossing ink and then added golden embossing powder.

This is what the chipboards look like close up:

My second project is a small tag to give away. For my tag I have used the True Love title from the 2 Hearts Set, a heart from the Heart Set and two Ornate Medallions. The heart and the title are just painted in white gesso and I have added a few pearls to the heart. The Ornate Medallions are painted in white and then stamped on with black ink and covered with glossy accents.

Make sure to check back the day after tomorrow to get some more inspiration from the design team!

A Canvas and a Card by Camilla

Hi there! Camilla here with my November projects for Blue Fern Studios.

First up is a canvas I made using different gorgeous chipboards. The background is made using different mediums like gesso, texture paste, mist, ink and gelatos. I also used a stamp.

The title is the Always and Forever chipboard, which I have used brown embossing powder on as well as some Twinkling H2O's before I covered it with glossy accents.

I also used the Ornate Heart chipboard which I have just painted with white gesso and inked the edges.

And here is one of the Magical Monarchs, which I prepared the same as the title.

Finally I put the bird from the 2 Hearts Set on top of the flowers. I have just painted it with white gesso and inked the edges.

Next is a card I made for someone's birthday. I built it up with lots of flowers and then I have some BFS chipboards peeking from behind. They are the Ornate Medallions and I have put some Twinklings H2O's on them and then some glossy accents.

Make sure to stop by in a few days to get more inspiration from the Blue Fern Studios team!

October projects by Yvonne Yam

Hello there! This is Yvonne here to share with you my October projects using Blue Fern Studios chipboard. :) The first is a double page spread.

I generally love my layouts flat so adding little bits of Blue Fern Studios chipboard give it a little texture and interest.

Using the same chipboard piece across the two pages help to achieve a cohesive look even though the base patterns are different.

I used Bits of Honey.

And Enjoy the Journey.

My next project is an 8x8 canvas. The base gold paint covered by lace. The chipboard pieces were painted with gesso and good paint.

I used Craftsman Frame.

And Ornate Medallions.

My last project is a tag. I coloured the chipboard with silver paint and paper-pieced the cushion. I also added some lace to the chair back.

I used Second Hand Furnishings.

Hope you've enjoyed my projects for October. Till the next time!
