In The Mood Inspiration & Tutorial with Megan

Hi Everyone :)

Are you In the Mood for a little inspiration ;) ?

I have a photo tutorial for you today using this fabulous new collection.  I decided instead of doing the obvious to use the collection for something different.  Something more masculine, which was this little guy running down the beach :).

What I love about the whole creative process, is theres no right or wrong way of doing it.  Messy, grungy, simple, complicated its all up to you.  Heres how I achieved the look I wanted.

Once I chose my paper - Dreamy - I picked all the embellishments I wanted to use and fiddled around til I was happy with my composition.

Next I applied gesso over the paper - this prepares the paper or primes it, making the surface slightly textured and ready to accept paint mediums - without it paints or sprays would just soak into the paper.

While the gesso is drying I started altering my chipboard.  I used a few different techniques - the chain link I just inked with black ink.  The cogs I just painted red - that large red cog? is the negative from chain link - so don't throw those away, they come in handy! And lastly the diamond bits and dots and embossed with the new Black Gold embossing powder - the photo doesn't do this product justice, it embosses beautifully!!

While the paint is drying on the chipboard I could then start splattering away at my background.  I used a mixture of black and white gesso and red paint, all spritzed with water to thin it down and then splattered around the page with a paint brush, starting with the lightest colour first.

The next step was deciding what stamps I wanted to use.  Ive used a mixture from three different sets.  To figure out where I wanted to stamp, I  reassembled my embellishments and pencilled lightly around them, then removed them and started randomly using my newsprint stamp.  The star bursts and circle stamps were used with more precision - I wanted these overlapping the chipboard pieces creating a collage effect.

The last thing I added was seedlings, and stickers, you can see these in the closeups :)

The final picture, the completed layout.  I love it!  He looks like he's having such a great time :) <3

February is the month of love and my second project for you today embraces that using the same collection, but this time I went OTP.

To create my centre cluster, I used a combination of stunning flowers, chipboard and diecut pieces.

I wanted the entire project to match so I used the same papers and embellishments in both.

Here you can see the detail added to the sides of the box and the dimensionality of decorated lid.

Inside I used some of the lovely lace that comes with the collection - and perfect for covering up where you just have'nt quite got the cut of your paper accurate! ;)

Hopefully I inspired you to get creating with this lovely new collection :). See you next month!

In the mood and Remnants inspirations by Jennifer Jacques

Good morning Blue Fern Fanatics!

It's my turn today on the Blue Fern Studios blog to present my February inspirations.
Did you see the gorgeous new collection "In the mood"?
Absolutely in love with this pink/red and soooooo romantic collection.

Here is my first layout with those brand new products.

"Fabulous"

First, I  primed my background "Optimistic"paper with clear gesso and, then, applied some modeling paste through a stencil.  A little bit of spray to highlight the design and I was ready to go further.

I made my focal point by layering my picture on chipboard, die cut and a piece of "Pensive" paper.

You can see in the picture below, 2 new colors of embossing powders that just came out with In the mood.  Black gold on the chipboard, and the lovely Pixie dust on my doily die cut.  On the leaves, I chose one of my favorite green color, Forest.

Add some printed coordinated chipies under the picture and some laces across the page
(the black one is 3B and ivory one is lace12).

Then, I added some flowers.
The white one is gorgeous with a little bit of glitter on it.  It is from the Garden Blooms set.
On my title, it is the Ivory embossing powder that I chose.

In final touches, I printed some little tiny dots with the Halftone stamp: you can barely see them loll.
Added some gesso splatters and that was it!

"Beautiful"

For my second inspiration, it is the "Flirty" paper that I chose for my background.

I added some texture on my backgroud with some 3D gel medium on which I sprinkled some
Rose Gold glitters.  Some crackle paste over another stencil, some printing with one of my Blue Fern Studios favorite stamp: Newsprint.

I cut in  parts one of the In the mood printed chipboard  and displayed them under my picture, which is also on a piece of b-side "Pensive" paper.  Also used the circle calendar that came in the coordinated printed chipboard as an embellishment.  The biggest flower  was in the Moody floral flowers set (the pale pink one, that I sprayed a little bit to match the paper's color).

I used 2 colors of embossing powders on my leaves below: Fern and Forest.

Added some enamel dots, more flowers from my stash and, again,
gesso splatters and this one was done!

Last but not least for February,  Remnants collection inspiration!

"Memories"

Here, it's the "Westfield" paper as my backgroud.  As usual, primed with clear gesso.  I used some printed chipboard to build my focal point.  Some lace 7 to add texture, some glitters "In the forest" on the edges of my chipboard and "Meadow" seedlings as final touches on the printed chippies.

Did you see those beautiful flowers below???
My favorite from Blue Fern Studios, the lilies.  Just loooooooove them 💗  The red one from the Harvest Lilies set and the green/brown one from the Wanderlust collection.  Also, under the side of my cluster, a white one from the Remnants blooms ;)

February Layout Inspiration - Joanne Bain

Hi Everyone!!

Joanne here with you today to share some layouts. Its a bit of a mixed basket this month for me as I created with 3 different collections.

My first layout was created with the absolutely gorgeous Wanderlust collection. I simply love the wash of colours in this collection. They have such a summery beachy feel to them.

'Forever'

For the base of my layout I chose to use the Seascape patterened paper from the Wanderlust collection. To create my main cluster I started with Blue Fern chippy Hexagon Bits and build up from there. All chipboard was painted with white gesso and then coloured with watercolour.

I then went about layering lots of Blue Fern lillies and blooms. The white blooms from the Apricot Blooms set were watercoloured with my chosen colours to blend with my page theme. The Wanderlust Lillies were left as they were and as you can see they are beautiful. The larger cream blooms from the Chesterville set were also watercoloured and pulled apart to from the back matting behind my photo.

I added some torn cheesecloth for added softness and texture for the page. The cheesecloth was also watercoloured to blend with the theme of my page.

For added texture and to help give a little more of a beachy feel Gold Nugget Seedlings and art stones were added.

For my next page I went back to my traditional love of a white background and created my own watercolour background to blend with fussy cut pieces from the Amber & Apricot collection.

'Delightful'

I think it has a very fresh and crisp feel to it. leaves and flowers were fussy cut from the Flora and Friendship papers from the Amber & Apricot collection. I am not a big fan of Apricot as a colour but I do like how this turned out.

The Blue Fern Shabby Brick Bits and Techno Square chipboard were embossed with Dark Chocolate embossing powder and I then added a sprinkling of Russet glitter. This turned out beautifully, it looks so pretty when the light catches the colours and they really standout on the white background.

The fancy square frame behind the photo was embossed with Green Ivory embossing powder and then a sprinkling of Solar Flare glitter was added. This colour is amazing, its so bright and vibrant.

The fussy cut paper pieces were layered in amongst the apricot blooms and chipboard. By doing this it helps to create detail and dimension. To add a soft texture to the page I added a little natural cheesecloth fabric.

For my final page I chose to use one of my all time favourite collections Deja' Vu.

'Perfect Moment'

I cannot speak more highly of this collection, it is simply beautiful! This collection has been in my stash forever and I am so happy to be able to now use it.

The layout features 3 of the papers from the collection, Un Voyage A' Paris, Frisperies and Petites Cartes.
Some were used for fussy cutting while other pieces were used for matting in my cluster.

The Blue Fern Monarch Butterfly chippys take centre stage on this page, they have so much detail to them. I used the large and medium butterflies from the set. I cut both in half and layered on top of each other attaching with chipboard offcuts to help keep them open.

Behind the main photo cluster is the Blue Fern chippy Thistle Spray. The chipboard had texture paste added to it then painted with white gesso, I then added Blue Fern Snow Embossing powder and a very light sprinkling of White Gold glitter. You cant really see in the photo but it is quiet pretty and a little sparkly.

Showing a little of the dimensional details.

Remnants Video Tutorial and In the Mood Layout

Hello everyone and happy Valentine's Day!  Today I am up on the Blue Fern Studios blog to share a couple of layouts with you for February.

"Forever"

My first layout features the Remnants Collection.  I am very inspired by the whole collection so I decided to make another video tutorial for this layout.  You can see the video tutorial below.

I chose the Callaway paper for my background.  The Remnants Printed Chipboard pieces with a thin coat of gesso under my picture added just the right amount of dimension.  The circular chipboard pieces around the picture are from the Floral Circles Chipboard and the thin circle frame right behind the picture is from the Tattered Butterfly Chipboard.  I also used the word "Forever" from the Families are Forever Chipboard for the title.

Each piece of chipboard on my layout was first painted with two layers of gesso.  Then I double embossed the chipboard pieces with Pearl Embossing Powder.  Before the embossing powder dried, I sprinkled some White Gold Glitter on the wet embossing powder to add some shimmer.

All of my flowers in my layout have some gesso on the tips, and they were lightly sprinkled with Red Wine Glitter while it was still wet.

To the right of the picture, I used a rose from the Happy Roses set, and the rose to the left of the picture is from the Spring Florals set.  The other three flowers on my layout with the pearls in the center are from the Remnants Florals set.

My picture is mounted on a torn piece of the Mini Remnants Paper.  To add the final touches,  I used a very small amount of Purple Haze Seedlings in various areas around my picture and flowers.

I hope my video tutorial will provide you with some inspiration for your next layout!  Don't forget that I would love to answer any questions you may have. :-)

"Remember"

My second layout for this lovely February features the newest In the Mood Collection.  I chose to use the Pensive Paper for my background and mounted my photo on a torn piece of the Mellow Paper.

I applied modeling paste and stencil then added pink and brown mists to the background.  When it was dry, I used the Crackle Textures Stamp with archival ink.

Next I embossed the Treasured Floral Frame with Pixie Dust and Baby Pink Embossing Powder.  I glued it to the paper, then I used matte gel to attach the Lace 12.

While the matte gel was still wet, I sprinkled some Tickled and Sweet Pea Seedlings.  Next I splattered some diluted black gesso then glued the torn Mellow Paper.

I decided to use small pieces of the Floral Lattice Bits Chipboard embossed with Peacock Embossing Powder and added some Army Dust Glitter.   I glued the pieces under the flowers from the Moody Florals Set.  Finally, I attached the Lace 10 around the side of the picture and randomly added some Emerald Seedlings.

I hope I gave you some inspiration today as you create new layouts from this lovely collection!  Take care!
