Beach Walk by Pam Ellis

It has been such a joy to have Pam Ellis as our Blue Fern Fan of the Month.  Each and every project has been unique.  This week, she has added some awesome texture to her layout.  It's so realistic you will feel like you are taking a walk along the beach,

Now we will turn it over to Pam so she can tell you about her creative process:

This is my dog Bruiser and I strolling the gorgeous beach in Caribou Monroe Nova Scotia. It was our first holiday in 15 years!  My husband and I had recently bought a fifth wheel and decided to travel the East Coat of Canada.  I have never known such peace. I can't wait to return this summer.

I applied a coat of clear gesso to my background and let dry. I then went over the area that would be surrounding my photo with clear crackle paste.

I added some dimension with a stencil and some molding paste.  I mixed some art stones large and small in some matte Gel and applied around the "beach" area or lower half of the layout to imitate sand.  I then added some shells I picked up while on holidays in the East Coast (Nova Scotia)

I misted the layout with blue and several browns to try and match the paper.  I added paper layers behind my photo and popped it up from the page.  I embossed the Seashell frame with a variety of colors and attached it to my photo.  After I glued everything down, I then added a small vial of sand from the beach in Nova Scotia.

I finished the layout by adding some blooms and my title.

Paper (Seaside Cottage Collection):

I would like to thank Blue Fern Studios for the opportunity to be the Fan of the Month.  It meant the world to me.

A Look at 2017

2017 has been an amazing year for Blue Fern Studios.  We have introduced new paper collections, added many new chipboard and stamp designs, and our new Seedlings.

Each week on our blog and social media sites, we have shared gorgeous projects from our talented Design Team.  As we say goodbye to 2017 and move on to 2018, we want to thank each of these amazing women.  They are so very creative and put their hearts into each project they create.

Here is a look back at some of the favorites from each designer:

Our first layout was created by Babi Kind.  Babi selected this layout as one of her favorites of 2017 and said, "I can't believe this year past by so quickly.  I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to share some of my work with you and to work with this amazing and talented team. There were so many nice collections and projects and it was hard to choose a favorite from 2017.  For some reason, maybe because I've spent a large part of my life in a tropical country, I like creating summer projects.  The color, textures, and everything from summer makes me happy and energized. This layout reminds me of a great time we had this year traveling with my daughter, discovering new things and enjoying the beautiful weather."

Tartine told me that she spends a lot of time when creating a layout, and I think you will see that below.  When she sent this layout to me, she said, "It's really hard for me to choose my favorite layout, and especially to say why she is my favorite. I think it's this one because it reminds me that we must never give up our dreams and believe in ourselves Thank you so much BFS for make my dream come true."

Pascale couldn't choose which layout was her favorite, so she sent me a couple to choose from.   I selected this beautiful monocromatic layout.  Pascale is known for creating  layouts using images of magnificent buildings.  This photo is a view from the Monastery of Claregalway that was taken during her trip in Ireland.

Vera also couldn't choose her favorite layout, but sent me several to choose from.  I chose this one using paper from the beautiful Seaside Cottage collection.  I absolutely love the movement she created in her design.

Annie let me select one of my favorite layouts that she created.  When I saw this one, I immediately knew it was the one.  The stunning design is fresh and unique.  Annie used the beautiful designs on the paper and highlighted them.

I chose this layout from Catherine.  First is the amazing background she has created.  I love the way the gold embossed chipboard looks against the background, and all the lovely Blue Fern flowers that frame this adorable photo.

Wendy created this sweet layout which was my favorite.  Every piece of this design fits exactly where it needs to - and brings the entire thing together.  The harmony of colors are perfect with this fun photo.

It has been an amazing year and we are so blessed to have spent it with such an amazing group of creative women.  Thank you to all of you for your inspiration!

Meet our December Blue Fern Fan of the Month

Welcome to December!  We are excited to announce our new Fan of the Month - Vija Anton.  I did a little Google search and discovered that Vija lives 8,804 miles from Blue Fern Studios, and the flight time would be 18 hours and 7 minutes.  Yet despite the distance, she found Blue Fern and we found her.  It's so amazing that we can connect with creative people all over the world.

Now I will turn it over to Vija, and let her tell you a little bit about herself.  She also has a layout to share, made with paper from our very popular Seaside Cottage collection.

Hi, my name is Vija Anton and I live in Melbourne, Australia with my husband and Golden Retriever, Cooper. I am a huge dog lover and this past year have been very busy raising money for disabled rescue dogs by sewing and selling dog bandanas.

I started scrapbooking over 15 years ago after a trip to the USA. I had walked past a scrapbook store and I was mesmerised by all the pretty papers, and there begun my addiction to paper.

I have no particular style. Sometimes I like to create with multi media and get very messy, and other times I like to just use paper and maybe just a few flowers for a clean & simple look. My main focus on my layouts is the photo. My favourite subject to scrapbook is my Golden Retriever, Cooper and I have made many layouts and mini albums for my friends featuring their dogs too.

I love the quality of Blue Fern products and it is such a great honour to be chosen as the December Fan of the month. Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I am especially excited to be able to work with the beautiful Vintage Christmas collection.

We hope you will join us as we welcome Vija to Blue Fern Studios this month.

August inspiration by Vera Shelemekh

Hello Blue Fern Studios fans.
It's Vera Shelemekh here and I'm happy to share with you some fresh and bright summer inspiration.  I've made a botanic layout with Wanderlust paper and mixed two summer collections in a seaside layout. And for the dessert today are Happy accident chocolate boxes with lace and flowers.

The summer here in Moscow is a bit cold this year, but we had a couple of warm weeks to enjoy the Nature, to wonder with a butterfly net and breathe wonderful floral smells.
For this layout I used Wanderlust - Lakeside as background.

The photo is framed in a frame from Ever After Frame Set covered with avocado embossing powder.

I decorated the layout with many stamped flowers, Damask Flourishes chipboard covered with lime embossing powder, stamped bugs and butterflies and a sweet owl.

Altered Art--with Keren Tamir

Hi Everyone,
Its Keren here with two altered projects for the Blue Fern Studios blog.

For my first project I created a pair of mermaid shadow boxes by altering two 6x6  canvases. I have a step by step video tutorial below to show you how I created them.

Here is the step by step video tutorial below:

I used two 6x6 canvases and reversed them to create the shadow box effect.
I love creating these type of projects as they are perfect for displaying on a mantlepiece.

I used the Seaside Cottage collection and various embossing powders and glitters to embellish these canvases.

I used real shells and starfish as embellishments and even added some netting to make it look as if it is under the sea.

My second project this month is an altered paint brush.

I took a wide old paint brush and embellished it using many different types of chipboard pieces.

I took a wide old paint brush and embellished it using many different types of Blue Fern Studios chipboard .

I used pieces from the following chipboard sets: Cogs and Gears, Moving Parts, Roman Clock and Wind up.
I also used one of the Tattered Butterflies as the focus and then I cut the chipboard word Heart to get the word Art. It was perfect for this piece and I still have the word "he" for another project.

The chipboard and paint brush was first covered in black gesso and then embossed with the following Blue Fern Studios embossing powders: Peacock, 14 Karat, Heavenly and Magenta.
Finally I added some touches of gold paint to fill in the areas where the embossing powders could not reach.

Thank you so much for visiting the Blue Fern Studios Blog
Have a wonderful day!!

October Projects by Maja

Good morning, BFS Fans, welcome to the blog today :)

I'm happy to be here again to share three layouts. They feature different collections and themes, but have something in common - they all show the "backsides" of papers for the backgrounds :)
Let's begin with the one you might have spotted during our October challenge announcement:

I made the layout using the Seaside Cottage collection. I layered selected paper, going for the nice pastel teal Regalia sheet for the background. Then I added the chickerwire chipboard painted with white gesso. Then I mounted the title chippies on it, combining some Spiritually Speaking words to form "Heaven Sent Blessings. :

I also added XOXO chipies and a mixture of flowers to further decorate the page. I chose the word pieces to be embossed with the Ruby ep for a nice contrast against the white chickenwire:

Heaven Sent Blessings:

Papers: Seaside Cottage: Relics, Regalia, Splendor, Whitewash
Chipboard: Chickenwire Panel, Spiritually Speaking, XOXO
Flowers: Seaside Lilies, Attic Charm Daisies, Courtship Blooms,
EP: Ruby

Now on to two layouts I made using the latest release, the Memoirs collection.
The first one was a true challenge for me, as I bravely used an yellow-orange-blue palette I'd never used before! :) But this combo makes a perfect choice to scrapbook your autumn, school or Halloween photos:

The palette was detrmined by the photo of my younger son that I used :) And so I selected the vintage newspaper sheet for the bacground that reminds me of some old book page. I added some brick stamped directly on it:

Embossed the "Noted" piece from Arrow Words and the Mini Frame Dangle with Tangerine and Copper eps and added the flowers in yellow and orange. Then I cut out the books motit and used it as a separate embellishment:

The title piece, Back To School, is embossed with Sand and Sea ep, one of my favourite new colours :) I also used a dimensional epoxy sticker to make an embellishment with a cut-out writing hand image. Finally I added some crystal dots and splashes of glitter ink to finish my page off:

Back to School:
Papers: Memoirs: Tale of Treasure, Calling Cards, Chronicles, Grand Sequel
Chipboard: Back to School, Mini Frame Dangle, Arrow Words
Flowers: Memoirs Blooms, Attic Charm Glitter Roses, Tranquility Blooms
Stamps: Essential Textures
EP: Sand & Sea, Tangerine, Copper

And here's the second layout I made with the Memoirs papers, and look how different it is!

I really love the deep dark red colour of the Songbird's Drama sheet! I wanted it to play the leading role and so used few elements on the page, not to cover it too much. The photo is one of the old photo shoot (you can tell by a different hairdo of my elder son ;) ) that I really like and already scrapbooked a dozen of times ;) First I layered nicely contrasting grey and red papers and added some stamping in the corners:

I embossed the gorgeous Chelsea Frame piece with Snow to make it clear white and really pop out of the background. Then I embossed the "you" from the title piece with Black Sand and then the whole of the chipboard with Ebony. I really like the metallic gold peeping through the black!

And finally I added the flower cluster with a bow of beautiful guipure lace and some embellies:

Grateful For You:
Papers: Memoires: Tale of Treasure, Songbird's Drama,
Chipboard: Chelsea Frame, Grateful For You
Flowers: Harvest Lilies, Dark Tropic Lilies
Stamps: Beads&Charms, Deja Vu, Forever, Ornamentals
EP: Ebony, Black Sand

And what do you think of the Memoirs collection? I hope to see many beautiful creations of yours with these papers!

See you later - Maja
