Maja's November Layouts

A very good morning to you, Blue Fern Studios friends, welcome to the blog today!

The year is coming to an end, and we think of Christmas more and more, getting ready for the holiday, but before I totally get involved into Christmas projects, let me first share some other things ;-)

This first layout is the one you might have already seen if you visited our November challenge post:

I used the Memoirs collection, and chose a burgundy-golden-brown palette for my layout. I added some stamping on the background paper, matted the photo with postcard images cut out from the Photographic Record sheet. Then I added the largest Roman clock piece embossed with Antique Gold and Black Sand eps:

As the November challenge is all about title pieces, I used the longest title I had to make it really stand out :-) I embossed it with Ruby ep and then accented the word "story" with red glitter:

Finally, I added a couple of flowers and embellies and clock hands embossed with Mushroom:

Each Day Is A Story Worth Telling:
Papers: Memoirs: Autumn Biography, Photographic Record
Chipboard: Roman Clock Set Large, Each Day
Flowers: Attic Charm Glitter Roses, Attic Charm Daisies, Courtship Blooms
Stamps: Journey, Postal Textures
EP: Antique Gold, Black Sand, Mushroom, Ruby

My second layout also features the Memoirs collection, but this time I decided to use a light, subtle colours - yes, I think they fits boy pages too :-)

There are a few bolder black accents, like stamping on the background page and a metal tab under the photo:

Otherwise I kept the delicate tones with the title chipboard embossed with Oatmeal ep and pieces of the Marrakesh Panel that I split into several parts and embossed with the Lilac powder:

Million Dollar Smile:
Papers: Memoirs: Photographic Record, Nature's Novel, Tale of Treasures
Chipboard: Million Dollar Smile, Marrakesh Panel
Flowers: Harvest Lilies, Late Winter Lilies, Courtship Bloom
Stamps: Deja Vu, Photography
EP: Lilac, Oatmeal

Those were my Memoirs layouts, but since I just got my DT box filled with the gorgeous Vintage Christmas 2 papers, I couldn't resist making one more page using our latest release :-) And here it is:

I began by cutting the decorative edge of the Twas the Night sheet and layering it upon the Let It Snow paper.

Then I added some stamping and made the title: I cut the word "Christmas" off the Twas the Night chipboard title and placed it on the Fancy Signage piece. I embossed the latter with Oatmeal and Snow powders and for the title word I mixed the Ruby ep with some red glitter for extra sparkle :-)

I also experimented with the Large Flake piece - I mixed Snow, Sea Mist and Icicle powders to create my cutsom mint tinsel :-) I added Spiritually Speaking words, just like the title embossed with Ruby ep and red glitter:

A little flower cluster including Christmas Blooms and Spring Lilies as well an the ornate Candle Stick piece complete my layout:

Christmas:
Papers: Vintage Christmas 2: Let It Snow, Twas the Night, Holiday Treats, Holiday Cards
Chipboard: 'Twas the Night, Large Flake, Candle Stick, Spiritually Speaking, Fancy Signage
Flowers: Christmas Blooms, Spring Lilies
Stamps: Forever, Ornaments
EP: Oatmeal, 14 Karat, Snow, Ruby+ Red Glitter, Icicle+Snow+Sea Mist

And that is all for today, thank you for visiting and see you later!

September Inspiration From Maja

Hello, Blue Fern Studios fans, welcome to the blog today :)

It's my turn to share some inspiration - all of my projects for today are made using the latest (and oh so gorgeous!) Seaside Cottage collection.

Let's begin with this blue and sand layout I made using the paper I just fell in love with as the background ;)

I just love the ombre look of this Embark paper! It's just perfect for summer seaside photos :) I stamped the fishing net pattern directly on the paper:

Then I layered several pieces of various papers to mat my photo. Then I mounted the Seashell Frame over the photo. I heat-embossed the chippie with Ginger ep and then smudged some white gesso here and there for a more shabby look. Then I added some BFS flowers - I removed the navy parts of the roses and replaced them with a shell or a button:

...and used the navy buds elsewhere on the page :)

I also added two more Seaside Cottage chippies: for the title piece I used the Perfect Day chipboard that I embossed with In The Navy and Breeze eps and then splashed it with white mist and added a touch of golden glitter. Then I completed the title-flowers cluster with the Seaside Flourish piece embossed with Oatmeal and Mushroom, and added some real seashells and starfishes:

The End of A Perfect Day:
Papers: Embark, Whitewash, Calling Cards, Glory
Chipboard: Perfect Day, Seashell Frame, Seaside Flourish
Flowers: Seaside Lilies, Seaside Roses, Attic Charm Glitter Roses
EP: Ginger, Oatmeal, In The Navy, Breeze, Mushroom
Stamps: Essential Textures

The Seaside Cottage papers are perfect for cardmaking too. Here's a universal card  - and it doesn't even contain marine elements ;)

I layered several papers and added a piece of the Marrakesh Panel chipbboard that I coloured with white mist:

I surrounded the stamped sentiment with gorgeous shabby Seaside Lilies and Roses and added another stamped image decorated with a resin flower, for some visual symmetry:

Then I made another card, this time going for the marine style and mermaid shaker box element:

I die-cut a porthole in metallic cardstock and placed the mermaid image from the Calling Cards sheet inside:

I added some lilies and a glitter rose together with real seashells and starfish:

Cards:
Papers: Calling Cards, Mermaid, Whitewash, Glory
Chipboard: Marrakesh Panel
Stamps: Deja Vu
Flowers: Seaside Lilies, Seaside Roses, Attic Charm Glitter Roses

And last but not least - the layout you may have spotted earlier, as it is my take on the September Moodboard challenge (have you joined us yet?):

I cut the inside circle out of the Mermaid paper, matted the sheet with Whitewash paper to make kind of the porthole window in which I put the photo. I matted the photo with pieces of papers and journaling cards, added flowers and real seashells and starfishes and some metal charms too:

I decorated the window with the Seaside Lantern piece which I added some colours to with Ginger, Breeze and 14 Karat powders:

I embossed the title Summer Vacation piece with Oatmeal ep:

Summer Vacation:
Papers: Calling Cards, Mermaid, Whitewash, Glory
Chipboard: Summer Vacation, Seaside Lanterns
Flowers: Seaside Lilies, Attic Charm Daisies, Tranquil Roses & Lilies
EP: Oatmeal, 14 Karat, Breeze

That is all from me today, do visit the BFS blog for more inspiration!

January projects with Karine Gagnon

Hi there, Blue Fern Studios fans,

I'm so excited to be here today to share my first post on the blog. First, let me introduce myself.

I'm 36 years old, mother of two adorable children and partner to the love of my life for over 20 years now. I'm also a high school French teacher, here in the beautiful Quebec city where I live. I discovered scrapbooking about ten years ago now, when my boyfriend brought home a scrapbooking magazine telling me he thought about me when he saw it. If only he'd knew what kind of a monster he would create! I'm an addict since. Lately, I like all things mixed media and texture. I can't make a layout without altering the background.

You can find me

I'm so excited to be joining the Blue Fern Studios team and I hope that my projects will inspire you.

My first project was created using this month's sketch.

Moment

I was charmed by the vintage look of the Conservatory paper from the Sanctuary collection. I thought it was perfect for my little guy's picture with his «Frank Sinatra's hat». I used some light misting to add a bit of color, a stencil with a light touch of modeling paste and Postal Textures stamps with some Imagine Ink Oatmeal embossing powder to add a touch of texture in the background.

I chose flowers and embellishments to go under my picture. I used the Grid Pieces and I left them raw, because they are so beautiful. I used two cards from the Calling Cards paper (Sanctuary collection) to mat my picture. As for my title, I used the Moment word from the French Words set and I covered it with Imagine Ink Oatmeal embossing powder.

You can see the embossing powder on the background, on the picture above.

Adore

My second layout features one of the new paper collection. I chose this beautiful pink pattern from the Celebration paper (Blush collection) to go with my daughter picture. I covered some of it with torn doilies.

Over that, I used some parts of the Marrakesh panel which I painted white with gesso.

I just love this panel! On my title piece, part of the «Adore, Love, Cherish» set, I used Imagine Ink Poinsettia embossing powder.

Everyday Moment

My last project features probably my favorite paper ever! It is called Artistique, from the Timeless collection. I love the texture!

I used the Swirly Circle to ancre my composition. I left it raw, because I wanted a rustic more masculine look. I used Postal Textures stamps to add interest in my background.

As for a title, I chose the Everyday Moments piece and I covered it with Imagine Ink Ebony embossing powder.

January inspiration by Pascale B.

Hello Sweeties,

Today I'm up on Blue Fern Studios blog for the first time. I have to say that I'm really honored to be part of this amazing Design Team.

For those who don't know me, I'm Pascale B. a working mom of 2 young adults. I live in the Loire Valley (France) well known for its beautiful castles and wines. I love to travel in and out my country and as I take a lot of photos during my trips, you will discover some of my finds in my projects as well as some of my ancestors... I mostly create layouts, but not only...

You can find my work on my personnal blog Scrap Made in Touraine,
some tutorials on Youtube,
and follow me on Facebook

------------------------------------

For the first project I choose a photo taken during a walk in the "Fairytales Gardens" of the Castle du Rivau (Léméré, France). It's a sculpture from Bassorade: " The Running Forest ".

I choose to made a really simple layout : some random stamping with the Brocade texture stamp, a touch of color for the background and some embossed chipboards. I used the Lucky powder on the small flourishes and the Ebony on the Dot Grid panel.

... some flowers colored with Twinkling H2Os and Primary Element.

And to finish I sprinkled Carrabean Glitter and Glass Glitter.

For this second page I chose a photo I took in September of the Castle of Villandry (Villandry, France), well-known for its beautiful "Jardins à la Française" (formal garden). The new Timeless collection is just perfect for this kind of photo.

I started to protect the paper (Timeless - Artistique) with a layer of clear gesso. When dry, I added some colors coordinated to the photo. I also added a design to the background with the Brocade Texture stamp that I heat embossed with the 14 Karat powder.

I covered the chipboards with clear gesso before coloring them with some Twinkling H2Os. When dry, I used the Brocade Texture stamp to add some texture to the chipboards and I embossed them with the 14 Karat powder too.

I added some texture to the grape vines too: I sprinkled some Sage embossing powder when the paint was still wet and I love the result!

I die cut the the title in a cardstock and embossed it first the 14 Karat powder. I embossed a second time with the Ebony powder but I didn't cover it properly so the gold is still visible.

And for the last layout I choose a photo of my great-grandparents's wedding in 1901.

I covered the background (Timeless - Couture) with clear gesso to protect it. When dry, I stamped randomly the background with a background stamp (Postal Texture) and an archival ink. I used a second stamp (Halftone) to add more texture and embossed the print with the pearl embossing powder. Then I added some colors to the background.

First I covered the chipboards (Framington Medley and  Marrakesh Panel) with clear gesso too, and added a thick layer of clear crackle paste. I let dry naturally. Then I colored them with different mica powders and fixed them.

I colored the flower and the leaves and I embossed the last ones with the sage embossing powder to add some texture.

I cut different papers (Autumn Anthology - Cottage and  Sanctuary - Calling Cards) and distressed them before adding them under the photo.

To finish the layout I added some mica flakes and I splattered black gesso mixed with gold mica powder.
