Cards for "LOVE" month - by Vicky Alberto

My name is Vicky Alberto (aka Simply Paper in the design world). After a 4-year break from being on design teams, I am thrilled to be designing for Blue Fern Studios for 2019... and that I finally get to renew my passion for paper art!  My blog address is http://simplypaperandcreativity.blogspot.com where I chat about my work, and share my various tutorials.  I describe my style as “a little shabby and a lot of chic”, with a vintage approach.

I enjoy working with vintage/romantic style papers and adore adding distressed layers, doilies, lace, stamping, and putting lots of flowers and chipboard on my projects.  Therefore, Blue Fern is a match made in heaven for me... since they have it all and more!

Sometimes my projects feature handmade flowers and unique gift boxes (all of my tutorials are listed on my blog - quick links in the right sidebar).  Also, my full design gallery can be viewed at http://www.scrapbook.com/profiles/444271.html.  Now, enough about me and onto the beautiful elements I designed with this month...

The first card features a mix of the gorgeous Heartland and Homespun collections, plus love story adornments & 2 hearts set chipboards.  On the chipboard, I primed with gesso, glazed with a glass beads medium and then sprinkled BF pink embossing powder (before it dried).  Look at the gorgeous flowers and adhesive shapes that coordinate with the paper collections... wow Blue Fern makes designing so easy!  The only thing from my own "stash" is that cute heart paper doily.

The second card features once again a mix of the beautiful Heartland and Homespun collections, plus love letters chipboard.  On this chipboard piece, I simply randomly dabbed gesso to leave exposed raw chipboard.  I then dabbed a bit of clear glue and quickly sprinkled blue BF embossing powder (before it dried).  The only thing from my "stash" is the circle paper doily.  More gorgeous BF flowers that perfectly matched this project are featured here!

Thanks for taking the time to view my projects today.  I cannot wait to create more and share new projects soon.  Blue Fern is a real treat to design for since there are so many amazing elements to design with, that all perfectly coordinate.  Blue Fern is truly one stop shopping!

Megan's July Projects

Hi Everyone,

Today I have three projects to share with you, two layouts and an OTP project, and Ive used three different collections.

Autumn is one of my favourite times of year because of all the abundance of colour in changing leaves.  We had a photo shoot with our dogs in autumn and this photo is one of my favourites from the shoot.

My background paper is from the Wanderlust collection.  I have inked around the edges with oxide ink and also used that same ink to use on a stencil in the background.

To alter my chipboard Checker Bits, Ive used the new embossing powder Napa Valley - the photos do not do this embossing powder justice, it is simply stunning!

For the Circle Groups chipboard I have embossed it with Ivory and then stamped lightly with stazon ink and then inked around the edges.  Ive also used the negative pieces throughout the layout as well which makes this particular chipboard set very versatile! You might also be able to see some random stamping in the background as well.

The chipboard here originally said "I love you more" and was all joined together.  I removed the 'more' from the title to use at a later date and I was left with "I love you".  I have painted this set white and then inked half of it with the same oxide ink from earlier.

Products Used

Patterned Paper:
Wanderlust - Lakeside

Chipboard:
Circle Groups
Checker Bits
I Love you More

Embossing Powder:
Ivory
Napa Valley

Stamps:
Tattered Newsprint
For the Birds

Seedlings:
Twig

Flowers:
Wanderlust Lillies

My second layout uses the gorgeous floral Blush collection.  I love the fussy cut-ability of this paper collection!

I left my base piece of paper plain, just inking round the edges with an oxide ink - I felt that all my fussy cutting together with the graphics of the paper provided enough detail, and I didn't want to detract from that.  Ive tucked some additional chipboard into my cluster at both ends.  I added another piece of chipboard in the top corner to draw the eye across the page and gave this piece a two tone effect with two embossing powders.

To add to the detail of the graphics on my paper I added a few tiny rosebuds which helps that wee cluster look more dimensional and gives it a little pop!

To help add some dimension to the page I have layered the two different fussy cut pieces onto scrap chipboard - in total there are three layers to this page.

My chipboard word was part of butterfly circle, I just removed the piece I wanted from the whole piece and then embossed it.

Embossing Powder:

My final project today uses my all time favourite paper collection HomeSpun.  Theres something about this collection that just makes me sigh with delight!

I had found this frame in a sale and it was the perfect colour for what I wanted, I just sanded it to give me a distressed look.
I chose this piece of paper because it made me think of those picture/pin up boards you can make with fabric on the background and then ribbon that goes across the board in both directions with pins where the ribbon intersects??  Well I wanted to recreate that look.
I added brads to the joins of my paper ribbon.  I cut into the sides of my paper ribbon to allow me to tuck my bit and pieces into it.  And then I fussy cut in to the paper and moved that fussy cut piece to sit on top of my base paper so that it fit inside my frame.
I have decorated the top with a chipboard flourish piece - embossed white - and a cluster of flowers.

I picked some of my favourite pieces of cut aparts, from various collections and tucked them into my pin board.

Thats three quite different projects for you today, I hope theres been something there to give you some inspiration!  see you next month :)

Sharon's July Layouts!

Hi everyone!  It's hard to believe that it is July already!   We are in the middle of a heat wave here in Pennsylvania - we have a high heat/humidity advisory for the next few days, so it's a perfect time to stay indoors scrap!

Today I am excited to share my July layouts with you . . .

Layout #1: One Cute Chick

I went straight to the beautiful "Tattered Walls" collection.  This time, I used "The Carolina Room" as the basis for my page.  I utilized both sides:
It's such gorgeous paper, I knew exactly which photos I wanted to use for my layout.  The sweet pictures of my daughter, Anne, were taken on Mother's Day, 2009.  Every time I look at her smile, my heart melts!

Back to scrapping . . . I really enjoyed using the "One Cute Chick" chipboard and embossed it with "Pixie Dust" embossing powder.

It's a DREAM to work with!!!  I also used one of the birds from the "A Spring Day" collection and embossed it with the sparkly "Goldenrod" embossing powder!

Here are is a close up:

And a different view:

Blue Fern Product List:
Paper: Tattered Walls "The Carolina Room" (Both sides!)

Lace: Ivory Braided Trim, Lace 1, Lace 6, Lace 10
Ephemera: Tattered Walls

Layout #2: Blessed

I already had this photo of my daughters, Katie and Anne, in mind when I started making this page.  This picture was taken back in November of 2013 for our Christmas card.  Once again, I thought the "Tattered Walls" collection was perfect for y treasured picture!

I used the flip side of "The Garage:"

Isn't it cool that all of these papers are named after a room?  I love that!

I also used "The Powder Room" to back my photo and to punch out my snowflakes:

I embossed the "Blessed" and "Christmas Tree" chipboard pieces with the amazing "Ivory" embossing powder.  I have to mention that I have never found better embossing powder than that made by Blue Fern Studios!  The Ivory EP is wonderful and no others match up to it!  And because it's a neutral, I use it all the time, and now I have to order more . . .

Here are some close ups of my layout:

I really had fun decorating my tree with pieces from Lace 9C!!!

Blue Fern Product List:
Paper: Tattered Walls "The Garage," "The Powder Room"
Chipboard: Christmas Tree, "Blessed"
Embossing Powder: Ivory
Flowers: Courtship Roses, Harvest Lilies, Late Winter Lilies

Glitter: Solar Flare
Lace: Lace 9C, Lace 10

Layout #3:  Love This Moment

I totally enjoyed making this last page using a photo of the group of children that were adopted with Anne when we got together at Pearl S Buck for an adoption picnic.  This "travel group" photo was taken in the summer of 2009!

I adore the Homespun collection and thought it was perfect for this photo.
I used the flip side of "Hospitality:"

I altered these chipboard pieces:

"Opulence:"

and "Love This Moment:"

This time I embossed both pieces with "Taupe" embossing powder, then to change things up a bit, I distressed each piece.

Here are some close ups:

I also enjoyed embossed directly on my page using the "Christmas Collage" stamp set and "Pearl" embossing powder.

Here's a different view:
