"Happiness" by our Fan of the Month

It's Wednesday, so we are back with another layout from our Fan of the Month, Patty Rogers.
This week, she has created this sweet Easter layout.  We will let Patty tell you all about it.

Hi everyone! It's Patty again with another layout for the Spring Parade collection. I enjoyed working with these Blue Fern Studio Products so much that I made a process video while working on this piece. You can watch it below.

>

You can see some of the layering and distressing in the photo below. The title word, "Happiness" is from the Good Vibes chipboard set. I love the way it gracefully curves over the photo so beautifully.

You can see where I tore the papers diagonally and popped them up. I may have had
too much fun with my layering, if there is such a thing!  Using a stencil and modeling paste,
I added texture to the background before splattering gold paint.

Here, you can see the pretty egg chipboard pieces. They are lovely and I thought it
would be perfect to hang them by a chain that I stamped on the background paper.
The chain stamp is from the "Forever" clear stamp.

Fussy cutting appears on most of my work and the little bunny from "Spring Parade" is adorable!
To me, it is important to not allow the white middle part of the paper to be seen,
so I use markers to blend the colors along the edges.

I decided to use "Bits of Honey" on this layout and when working with the little hexagons, I was inspired to use them in a different way than ever before. The little hexagon had already been embossed and I was holding it with my tweezers when it jumped up and landed on a piece of cheese cloth! Brilliant! I glued it to the cheesecloth! Perhaps it was divine intervention...or maybe there was simply too much pressure from the tweezers! Too bad I can't take credit for that 3-D inspiration! It looked as if it was floating, so I did the same with two more hexagonal pieces.

Hope you enjoy the process video.....see you next time!......Patty

Meet our April Blue Fern Fan of the Month!

We are thrilled to announce our April Blue Fern Fan of the Month - the amazing Patty Rogers!  Patty is a true fan of everything Blue Fern.  If you stop by her blog, you will see pages of beautiful layouts using our products.  This month, we have the pleasure of sharing some of Patty's layouts with you.  Each week, we will have a new layout from her using the Spring Parade Collection.  She has some wonderful projects planned.

For now, we will turn it over to Patty so you can get to know her and her creative process a little better.

My name is Patty Rogers, also known as A Sassy Scrapper in the world of Paper Crafting. My husband and I live in Texas, United States, where we met at Texas Christian University, as
I majored in education and minored in art. Although our two children are grown now, I still enjoy doing layouts about them at any stage of their lives.

Over the past twenty years, I have had several paradigm shifts in my style, and know that I am ever changing and improving in my work (read "play" here). I keep up with the latest supplies and trends and find that a romantic look is the style I enjoy creating most of all. I became interested in the artistic side of this “craft” a few years back, and love all the fun I have had with embossing, layering, painting, dimension and texture. My work is definitely considered multimedia.

I love Blue Fern Studios products, and have been using them since 2011 while on a design team that carried their amazing products. I especially like that the quality and beauty of their paper is perfect for my style of scrapbooking and that their chipboard, flowers, stamps and embossing powders are perfectly coordinated. I am a hopeless Blue Fern Studio Fan!

For this layout, I chose to use the Chesterville Shelf along with Good Vibes for a title, and Bits of Honey chipboard pieces as a backdrop.  Also used here are June and Market Place papers from the Spring Parade Collection, Pink Dust and Lavender Eggs embossing powders, and Spring Posy glitter.

The flowers included are the gorgeous berries from Spring Peony and Berries, Spring Florals, Heartland Blossoms and Dark Tropic Lilies.  The colors in these Blue Fern Studios products were perfect for the Easter dress my daughter was wearing. It could not have been a better match!

Techniques used for this layout included painting, heat embossing, tearing, 3 - D work, and crimping.

Creating little clusters of the beautiful flowers brought it all together and made the layout very feminine.

One of my favorite techniques to use in a layout is to add texture. Sometimes, I achieve that by using modeling paste and a stencil. Another way to get texture is to heat emboss. For an added touch here, I used a paper crimper to achieve the corrugated look under the photo. For me, there was not one minute during the creation of this layout that was not pure enjoyment!

March projects by Wendy Scholten

Hello everyone,
Today is my turn on the Blue Fern Studios Blog with my march projects.
I made 3 layouts, one with the chesterville collection and two with the new Spring Parade collection.

So let's start with the one from the Chesterville Collection called:

"Adorable"

I just love this picture of our little girl, she was only 10 months here.
I made this layout with the Whitford papers, i used the backside for my background and a piece from the front of the paper to place behind my photo.
Don't you just love those papers, you can use them for every subject.
I embossed the chipboard pieces Textured Wildflowers, Memory Frames, one of the bohemian flowers and the word Adorable with the: iris, vintage gold and sand&sea embossing powders.
To give the background a bit more texture i used the Essential Textures Stamp, that's all it really needed.
I also used a lot of the gorgeous flowers : Heartland Blossoms, Courtship roses and the Dark Tropic Lilies
I used a few things from my own stash: baubles, lace, berries, small beads in different colors and just a little bit of paint.

This one i called:

"Dazzling"

For this one i used the June paper as my background, and a stencil with some moddeling paste and oil pastels to color the background. Behind my photo i used a piece of the Susie's garden paper, i also fussy cutted a lot of flowers from that paper.
First i embossed the Janie's Fram Chipboard piece with the Lilac and the new Lavender Egg's embossing powders,
I placed the frame and the fussy cut flowers behind my photo frame and decided i wanted to turn the picture a bit to the side to give it a different effect.
i placed some rhinestones in and around my frame to give it a bit of sparkle.
The title Dazzling i embossed with the lavender Egg's and Fern Embossing powders to let it stand out a bit more.
i used a few little flowers, lace, a sticker and rhinestones from my own stash tot complete this layout.

For the background i used a stencil with some moddeling paste as well as oil pastels for some color. I also used the tattered newsprint stamp with snow embossing powder to give my background some texture.
I chose the Spring Bunny Frame, Spring Trinkets and the title Cute stuff from the Good vibes set for my chipboards, i embossed the spring bunnies frame with lilac embossing powder, the spring trinkets with Lavender Egg's and Speckled mint embossing powders.

My November's layouts with the Mémoires Collection by Marie-Eve Bernard

Hello,

My turn to share with you some layout with the Memoires collection.  What a beautiful collection to play with!  One of my absolute favorite!

Angel:

My first layout is the one I have made for the November challenge.  You have to use a chipboard title from Blue Fern Studios.  So much beautiful chipboards to choose from! This layout featured my little boy, my little angel, Léo.

For my layout, I choose the Tale of treasures paper from the Memoires collection.  With the neutral tones of this paper, the possibilities are endless.

On my background, I use the grungy grid stamp set.  Love the texture it brings.  I use the Crackled Bits chipboard set too.  I alter those chipboard with the Imagine Ink Sand and sea Embossing powder.  I

I use the word Angel from the Baby Words chipboard set. First, I ink it in black. I found it to dark on  my layout. So, I add some white marker and some turquoise ink. I was much more happy with the result.  I add some flowers:  Harvest Lilies  and the  Dark tropic Lilies.

Special, adorable, Perfect

For this second layout, I also used the Memoires collection.  The paper I used is Calling Cards.

On this layout I mixed two different set of title sets: Perfect, adorable, special and good vibes.  I just inked them with black ink.  I also used two sets of chipboards :  Techno rings and Industrial gears.  altered them with Imagine Ink Embossing powders in Copper, Chili Powder, Breeze and Seven Seas.

On my background, I use the Scratched stamp set with  black ink and the Grungy Grid Stamp set with turquoise ink.

Finally, I had some beautiful Blue Fern Studios Flowers: Late Winter Lilies and Memoires Blooms.

Sourire

The Mémoires collection is just perfect for fall layout.   It was the perfect paper to compliment the picture of Mathilde in the pumpkins field.

I use the  Chronicles paper, the remember when paper from the Memoirs collection.  Also had the adobe paper from the timeless collection.

I also use Blue fern flowers:  Late winter lilies, tranquil blooms and  Memoires blooms.

I love the pretty pumpkins chipboard on that layout.  First, i add a coat of gesso and the chipboard and glue them on the Couture paper from the Timeless collection (I have previously put clear gesso on it).  Once they are dry, I cut them and add color the pumpkins with watercolours.

For my title, I use the sourire chipboard.  I put a coat bof gesso and add watercolours. I did the same process with the Organic vine.

hope you enjoy those layouts and that they insured you to play with the wonderful Mémoires Collection,

Marie-Eve
