July Projects with Rae

Hello! Rae with you today to share my latest projects made with an array of Blue Fern papers and chippies.

Sparkle Card

First up, I have this card I made with the Ombre Dreams paper.

I used two pieces of chipboard on this card, and here's a close up that shows the details. The "Sparkle" piece is from the "Winter Titles" set. I used some metallic stain by sponging it on the raw piece for a toned down metal look. Sponging it on also gives some bubbles on the piece that adds a slight touch of dimension.

For the "Treasured Floral Frame," I primed it with gesso, then used some shimmery watercolors in two different colors in random spots, leaving some of the gesso exposed.

Timeless Beauty Altered Mailbox

I altered this paper mache mailbox with papers from the Blue Fern Garden line.

This is the back view, showcasing my favorite piece of paper from the line. :)

In this close up, you can see how I line the inside of the mailbox, and stuffed it full of various flowers.

I used the "Blooming Flourishes." Two pieces come in the set.

Here's a closeup to see the details of the flourishes. I ran them through my die cut machine with a script embossing folder, then primed them with gesso, and while still wet, added some dry green milk paint. It left a grainy and chalky surface, which I love. After it was dry, I used green and brown distress inks to change the color in a way that complimented the papers better.

Beautiful Layout

I really loaded up on the chipboard in this layout!

For the "Beautiful" title piece, I ran a chalk ink pad over it, being sure to get an uneven coat.

For both the "Fancy Bird Cage" and the "Shabby Brick Bits," I used the same technique, which is simple: I grazed each of the pieces with brown archival ink, being sure to leave a lot exposed, then using distress ink with a blending tool to get that definition that you can see on the bird cage.
And, here's a closeup that shows the finish on the "Roman Clock Set" (Large). I used white chalk ink and then misted it with light brown, dark brown, and gold inks.

For the "Corner Flourish," I primed it with gesso, then painted it with three coats of three different green paints.

Thanks for checking out my projects today!

Round & Round Circular Designs- by Keren Tamir

Keren here and its my turn today on the Blue Fern Studios blog. I have an all around theme this month which is "Circles". I have used different circular designs this month to create each of my layouts. I hope they inspire you to create with circles and love them just as much as I do!!!

First up is:

"Good Vibes"

I used the Ombré Dreams- Leslie's Dream paper as a background for this layout.

I just love using circular designs on my layouts and I tried to incorporate different circle motifs in each of these layouts. I also used stencils and stamps to create different textured circles in the background.

I framed this cute photo of my daughter picking strawberries in the field with the treasured floral chipboard frame. I primed it with gesso and then colored it with markers.

Then I added circles from the Circle Group set which were coloured in yellow marker. finally I added the Good Vibes title on the side because she's truly just so happy here!!

"Joy"

For this layout I used the Techno rings to frame the photo of my daughter painting and one of the words from the Ombré Dreams- Dream Cards paper.  First I primed them with gesso, Then I painted them with gelatos and added some stickles glitter. I also stamped them with a circular stitched stamp (which is the same stamp used on the background). Finally I created white lines on them with a white acrylic marker.

I used the Ombré Dreams- Joyce's dream and matched all the embellishments and inks to it.

my daughter had so much fun using the dropper to create splatters on the page. It gave me so much joy watching her and so I used the Joy title from the Good Vibes chipboard word set.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

"Natural"

I used the Ombré Dreams- Susan's Dream as the background for this layout and added some layers with the Dream Cards paper.

Finally I want to show you the layout I created for the July sketch challenge. I also happened to use a circular motif so I thought I'd share the design.

The small circle flourish chipboard frame was perfect to frame this natural looking photo of my daughter.

I also used the bohemian flowers, little birds and a frame trinket to to add to the natural look. Finally I added the natural title from the All Natural word set.

Thank you so much for visiting the Blue Fern Studios blog today. You can still enter the July sketch Challenge Here

Have a wonderful day!!

June colours with Jelissa

Hello friends! Thank you for dropping by :)

Today I'm in to share three projects I created for Blue Fern Studios, featuring the new paper collection Ombre Dreams and some fantastic chipboard pieces.

"Count the Ways"

The first is a layout I made of my big boy, with papers from Ombre Dreams collection.  The title came from one of the most popular love poems around - Sonnet 43 by Elizabeth Browning but I used it here to describe my love for my sweet and wonderful child.

Some close ups:

A frame from the Memory Frame set which I misted green.

Counting the ways with the number grid chipboard panel, which I covered with black EP.

A piece of Layering Stem. Gosh, I love these! Just perfect for tucking into any little corner of my floral cluster.

A piece from Fall Foliage, also misted with green and gesso brushed on randomly.

"Follow Your Bliss"

My second project is a simple little card. In fact, I made a card instead of my usual LO because I wanted to use the chipboards as the main features. I layered sheets from the Ombre Dreams collection and layered water colours in pastel tones, careful not to hide the lovely details the papers have.

Some close-ups:

The Twilight Garden Frame. What a lovely piece! I used gold paint on the lamp and added a layer of crackle. For the rest of the frame, I coloured with gelatos.

I used "Follow your Bliss" word as my card sentiment, which I covered with some bronze embossing powder.

"Blue Skies"

My third project is a layout I created for this month's sketch challenge. If you havn't seen it, do take a look because Michelle has come up with another fabulous sketch. And to win a pack of gorgeous Blue Fern products, just create a project based on the sketch and link it up. It's that easy!

Here is the sketch again:

And my take on it:

I used "Susan's Dream" for my background. It has the most calming tones of blues and greens, with a tinge of orange which I have used to highlight certain elements of the page. I like to use a lot of mediums and thinner papers tend to warp with so much fluid sitting on it. But the BFS papers are so much heavier (and sturdier), my LO remained pretty much the same shape even when I was adding quite a fair bit of water to bleed the colours. If you love playing with mediums like me, you'll find the quality of BFS papers just perfect.

A cut-out phrase from "Dream Cards". There are several elements that you can fussy cut out from this page and layer them on your project. I also used a gear and bird chipboards.

Another phrase from "Dream Cards" layered on top of the Mini Ring Things chippie.

The Treasured floral frame chippie. Love the delicate vines and flowers on this piece!

And here's a start to finish video I put together to show you how I did the background, as well as the various techniques I used to alter the chipboards. Sit back and enjoy the show, and do remember to play along with our sketch challenge this month!

That's all for today. Do check back at our blog again for more inspiration from the rest of the fabulous Blue Fern girls!

love,
Jelissa

A Card & a Tag Featuring Ombré Dreams!

Hello everyone!

Erin Blegen with you today to share a card and a tag that I created using the brand new "Ombré Dreams" paper collection, as well as some new chipboard pieces too!

"You Make Me Smile"
This paper collection comes just in time for summer- with its fresh, light colors and dreamy patterns, I couldn't wait to start putting it to good use! Here I've created a card using the "Ginger's Dream" paper on top and "Leslie's Dream" for the base. There was just enough design in the upper right-hand corner of the "Ginger's Dream" paper to perfectly compliment the card design I had in mind.

I'm really loving circular pieces and frames at the moment, and this "Treasured Floral Frame" was just what I needed for my card. I took a white Prima Chalk Edger ink pad and used that to mostly cover the piece, leaving just a hint of the raw chipboard to show through. I then wrapped it with white wire cord.

Next, I have a pretty little gift tag for you :)

"Follow Your Dream"
Everyone loves butterflies {including me!}, so I was very excited to see the new "Royal Monarchs" that were recently released! Paired with a set of the {also new} "Layering Stems", I thought the combination suited nicely this particular sentiment.

The butterfly piece was covered with Ranger Glossy Accents and then sprinkled with microbeads. Allow the glossy accents to dry on their own rather than heating them with a heat gun as the glossy accents tend to bubble up and scorch otherwise. The stems were misted with Heidi Swapp Color Shine in "Blush" and, while wet, covered with clear embossing powder and set with a heat gun.
