My first blogpost for Blue Fern Studios. Mixed media layout and a pocketletter .

Hello, my name is Wilma Voermans and I am a new team member at Blue fern Studios.
I live in the beautiful Bernese Oberland , Switzerland.
Talking English is not that difficult, but in my writing can be mistakes.
I hope you will forgive me this.

My first love is abstract mixed media on big canvas.
It is a side of my creativity I never show, because it is something for myself.

A few years ago I discovered scrapbooking and I was addicted right away.
Scrapbooking is so versatil , so many styles , techniques and materials can be used .
Getting the mood of the picture,  be creative ,
and make a keepsake for the next generation.
What more can we ask for?

Next to this I do Project life and my new addiction: pocketletters!

Lets start with my first project for this post.......a vintage mixed media scrapbook page.
Vintage and flowers is not my first to go to style,
but I have a daughter that loves to dress vintage...
Those pictures have to be scrapped too :)

My inspiration to start was the Love Story collection paper Concerto:

I used the black and white side to start.
But than I sort of lost myself with paints and medium.
But that doesn't matter, I had the feeling of the paper in mind.
For my layers behind the picture I also took leftovers from the Cottilion paper.

I knew I was going to use the tattered diamonds bits, so I took a stencil with the same shape.
The pink diamonds you see in the background is a mix of ink and translucent embossing paste.

For the chipboard I first painted it with black writersink.
It is deep black and you dont need to cover the chipboard first.
After it dryed I painted roughly over it with distress paint in Tarnished brass.

Lets go to my Blue Fern inspired pocketletter.
If you start with them, look out......it is highly addictive.
Not only is it great to receive real mail, it is fun to make somebody, somewhere something nice.

Pocketletters can have themes and  any kind of style.
Vintage, modern , colorfull, funny , cute etc etc
It are 9 cards and you add them in those baseball sleeves.
The card size is ATC , 2,5 x 3,5.

There should be a short (or long ) letter in one of the sleeves.
And you add some treats in the sleeves.
Little embellishments, a teabag, little tags, emphemera, well....anything goes.
There are groups on facebook for pocketletters swaps and it is a real hype at the moment.

For me it is not about the things that come with my letters.
I love it when I see my swappartner made something with love and fun.
Untill now I (almost) always got lovely letters and I like to save them as they are.
 I leave everything in it.

The most fun letters for me are the ones with the themes:
about yourself , your surrounding, country  , what do you like and so on.

But I keep writing about them......lets have a look.
I decided to keep this letter calm, offcourse to see the beautiful background paper.

I used only one sheet of paper:

Cut it up to 7,5 by 10,5

On the backside I mark the paper in 9 pieces..

At this point you can make your background or first cut them up.
I just did something with a stencil and distress ink before cutting

I have leftovers pieces from the 12x12 sheet.   I fussycut flowers and borderpieces from it.
I also used my Blue Fern stamps in the background and made embellishments with them.

Here the finished frontside:

On the backside I did not do to much, I love the print from the paper, and it is filled with little treatments anyway.
As you see, I added vintage poststamps, lace, flowers, a (real) dryed edelweiss, little shoes, a bookmark , mini incense, some BFS chipboard and offcourse the letter.
There is one pocket empty, I want to add a minipicture from her granddaughter in it.
I took it from her profile , so I dont show it here.... for her privacy.

I hope you like my first blogpost, have a great day!

The winner of the April challenge is..............

entry #3 which belongs to Jessika of Sweden.

Jessika, you have won a prize package of Blue Fern Chipboard!
Please send me an e-mail, within the next 7 days,
at {valerie(at)bluefernstudios(dot)com} to claim your prize.
Here's the beautiful layout Jessika created using one of our most popular
chipboard sets, the Shabby Brick Bits!

Each month we like to feature a few layouts from our sketch challenge
because we LOVE to show off how you use our products!  It just so happens that all three of the gorgeous layouts below were created by women from Australia.

The first layout we are featuring this month was created by Alison Bevis.  Alison has used paper from the Ombre Dreams Collection (Shannon's Dream).  The large chipboard piece is a portion of the Industrial Corner, which she altered by heat embossing with several colors, and then adding mist.  What a beautiful look she achieved!  Her title, Love, is from the "Good Vibes" set of chipboard words.  There is absolutely so much to love about this layout, including the precious photo!

Mandie Meier used a gorgeous photo of her daughter for her layout.  The background paper is from the Blue Fern Ombre Dreams Collection.  Mandie accented the layout using the Tattered Diamond Bits chipboard piece as well as the "Love" chipboard piece from the Adore, Love, Cherish set of words.   This layout is so soft and sweet and beautiful!

Lizzy C has done some fabulous fussy cutting using our beautiful Montage Paper Collection.  She added the stunning Wild Flourish Frame and some of the Turkish Bits chipboard pieces to complete the look.  The way Lizzy altered the frame is nothing short of amazing.  We can't think of a better way to show off Blue Fern products!

Congratulations to our winner, Jessika, and the three very talented ladies whose layouts we have featured this month.  We hope you will take a moment to congratulate them!

Our May sketch has been posted.  You can find a link in the right sidebar.
We hope to see lots of amazing layouts again this month.

Celebrate Love - with Love Story

Hello!
My Love Story collection is cut and used to the very last pieces. What a fabulous collections, isn't it?
For my post tpday I have prepared two cards and a layout.
The cards were made for the wedding anniversary occasion and of course Love Story was a perfect choice:

Chipboards: Damask panel, Marrakesh panel, Organic vine

Chipboards: Tattered Diamond Bits, Roman Clock Set small

For my layout I have used a diagonal composition, creating the flow across the page. Combining chipboards, lace, flowers and paper pieces give a nice variation for the eye.

Chipboards: Folkart frame, Damask panel, Memory frames (1 piece of the set)
Stamps: Forever

Thank you so much for stopping by today!
With love from Zaneta aka Zanka

Bente's first post for Blue Fern Studios.

Hi there!...*waving from Sweden*.
My name is Bente and some of you may have seen my creations around the internet for a few years now. I started scrapping about six years ago and never stopped to look back. I've tried many other creative outlets like knitting, sewing and embroidering, but scrapbooking is by far my favourite.
I am a native of Norway although I have lived more than half my life away from there. I have had my permanent address in the south of Sweden for many years, but have spent a few years in exciting places like Chile, Mexico and the UK. Loved that!
My three beautiful daughters are my main inspiration and we also have a cute but spoilt kitty.
I am so happy to be on the 2015 creative team here at Blue Fern Studios!
To see more of my work please visit me here:

Now for my first creations here on the blog:

Here I used the Roman Clock set and the Arrow Words set.
To add colour to the pieces and create a coherent look I coloured the pieces with an ink chalker.

I love the feminine look created by lifting and layering a piece of the pretty Montage paper.

My next page features the youngest members of the family.
-My DD and Lady, the royal princess of our house :-)

Again I used the beautifully decorated papers from the Montage collection.
The large frame is called Shabby Layered Frame.
In the corners you can see some Tattered Diamond bits.

I love these pictures that I took a while back.
I love the look of the enamel dots on the black painted frame.

Finally to round off this post I created a couple of cards using the lovely Sanctuary collection.

I used the pretty Roman Clock set and the Arrow words  here as well.

On this card is also a small piece from the Ironwork Accents set.
The Tattered Diamond bits were painted inked and stamped with a musical note pattern.

Products used: Papers from the Montage collection and the Sanctuary collection, Roman Clock set, Arrow Words set, Shabby Layered frame, Tattered Diamond bits, Ironwork Accents.

I hope you liked my first creations as a DT member for Blue Fern Studios.
Thanks for looking!

First DT projects by Zanka

Hello!
It's my turn to welcome you on BFS blog for the first time! My name is Zaneta Glowa aka Zanka. I'm truly happy to cooperate with BFS and I'm looking forward to this new scrappy adventure!
I'm coming from Poland but nowadays I live in Sweden, I moved here more than 10 years ago.
I discovered scrapbooking in 2010, an amazing world has opened its door to me and took me by the storm.
At work I’m all fact and figures but I'm happy to take an escape to creativity when I have some spare time. I can slow down after a busy day, think through the things that happened -or sometimes just forget everything and make some mess ;)
I’m trying to explore different expressions and styles, although I’m most often staying within a romantic, feminine stream. I love to add a mixed media touch to my works. My key discoveries during my journey so far have been: stamps, gesso and Twinkling H2Os, all of these still remaining the first choice in my toolbox.
You are warmly welcome to visit my blog at
www.mysweedplace.blogspot.com

So this is me:

For my first layout I used Sanctuary collection, I've fallen in love with the rose images!

Chipboards : Quatrefoil panel, Tattered diamond bits.
When you get your chipboard panels, most of them are still including the cut bits which you normally pop out. I discovered that those loose bits are perfect as embellishments themselves! I decorated mine with gesso, ink, stamps and  covered them with glossy accents.

For the second layout I picked Ombre papers.
Chipboards: Hello Summer, Ginger Poppies

The chipboards are gently treated with gesso and watercolours, the same which I also used in the background.

My third layout was already presented with the sketch reveal. Once again, I used the Sanctuary collection.
Chipboards: Captured Words, Graduated Squares, Spring Branch

Here's probably where I've spend most time on altering the chipboards.

For the title, I only added some white accents, otherwise I let the elegant,  original colour of the chipboard to be seen.
On the frame, I have used texture paste and goldfinger paint. The branch is coloured with wax crayons and acrylic paint.

That's all from me today, thank you for spending some time with me here !
