Memoires Inspiration & Video Tutorial by Marilyn

Hello everyone! I received the new Memoires collection and started working intermediately . I share with you today two layouts one a little simple and one advance with the video tutorial. Let's take a look at my first project.

TRUE STORY
I selected the gold, beige, dark red colors from this collection to make this page. The paper called Songbird's Drama  and  I used both sides in this layout.  I selected  the  new Grand Ornament and True Story chipboard that were embossed with ginger embossing powder.  You can watch all the creative process in the video tutorial..

Harvest Lilies and Memoires Blooms are the new pretty flowers and I made some fussy cutting from the Calling Cards paper.

products:
Memoires collection: Songbird's Drama paper
Chipboard: Grand Ornament, True Story/Big Drama, Mina's Border
Embossing Powder: Ginger, 14 Karat
Stamp: Crackle Textures

Here's the Video tutorial, enjoy it!!

 SMILE

For my second project I get out of my comfort zone and  I worked the gray colors from this collection . I chose the Janie's frame chipboard that I painted with gesso and next with  gray distress ink  and I did the same with the Smile chipboard. I gave textures with molding paste and a stencil to the background but stayed simple.

I mixed the Late Winter Lilies and Dark Tropic Lilies flowers. I cut out the image and the flag from the Calling Card paper.
The title is the Smile chipboard and I stamped the background  with the Crackle Textures stamp and distress ink.

Sandi's August creations ~ Seaside Cottage

Hello, hello!
Sandi here with you today!
I'm posting late this month due to vacation and lots of increased family activities!
But I was so thrilled to receive my Blue Fern Studios Seaside Cottage collection!
It is so unique and I love the vintage take on "beach."

My photo is of a statue named Sirena that resides along Salado Creek in Salado, Texas. She had to be moved to higher ground a few years ago after some flooding of the creek. But she's a must-see every time we stop by there. My husband grew up in that area and we have made frequent trips over the years.

My base is the beautiful Embark paper. I've also layered some B sides of Mermaid and the Calling Cards paper. Then I used the A side of Calling Cards for my photo layers.

The Seaside Flourish chipboard is amazing! I want more! I coated it with gesso and them embossed with Oatmeal, Ginger and a hint of Mushroom. You can also see my Seaside Mermaid chippy here. Her upper body is embossed with Oatmeal Emobssing Powder and her lower body with In the Navy. Then I sprinkled some texture beads over that for interest. You can also see my Seaside Lily and my Attic Charm Daisy.

This title piece could be used so many different ways for almost any theme! I did an ombre sort of embossing with it, the upper portion is done with Oatmeal, the lower portion with In the Navy and a slight bit of Mushroom in the middle. Tucked a lovely Seaside lily under my photo layers. These are such fantastic flowers! We now have them in a variety of colors!

I've included this close-up to highlight the stamping I've done with the widgets stamp. On this month's projects, I've tried to reduce the clutter of mixed media, so that you can see all the beautiful images and prints on the paper itself.

I added texture beads to my Seaside Flourish pieces as well. It makes an interesting combination with the shiny look of the Ginger Embossing Powder.

Aw, sigh, just have to share some fun dimension! That's what chipboard and flowers are all about, right? There are hints of cheesecloth as an under layer for even more texture.

Blue Fern Studios Products used:
Paper: Seaside Cottage Embark, Mermaid and Calling Cards
Chipboard: Seaside Flourish, Perfect Day, Seaside Mermaid
Embossing Powder: Oatmeal, In the Navy, Ginger, Mushroom
Flowers: Seaside Lilies, Attic Charm Daisy
Stamps: Widgets

The Whitewash paper from Seaside Cottage is my absolute fave! Grunge to the max! But still beautifully vintage! It could be used for so many themes!

The gorgeous Seashell Frame chipboard piece was embossed with my fave combination of Oatmeal,
Ginger, Mushroom and Nutmeg Embossing Powder over wet gesso.  I got the wet gesso idea from Wilma! It looks amazing!

Here's a close-up of the Seashell Frame. The wet gesso helps cease a bubbly effect that is so apropos.
You can see some Calling Card pieces here as well as some Seaside Lilies and Roses. I also did a tiny bit of paint splattering which you can see.

Another item created especially for this collection is
"A Walk on the Beach" chipboard title, which I've embossed
with Blue Fern Studios Ginger Embossing Powder. Then I dabbed it with white gesso.
Of course, I had to add a couple of lilies there as well!

The finishing touches were added, and the layout was embellished with
flowers from the Seaside Lilies and Seaside Roses flower collections. They were paint splattered and got a dab of gesso as well!

I am in the planning stages of more projects with Seaside Cottage. My dad was in the Navy and I want to scrap some of him in his uniform! This is the perfect collection for those vintage photos of him.

Blue Fern Studios Products used:
Paper: Seaside Cottage Whitewash, Calling Cards
Chipboard: Seashell Frame, A Walk on the Beach title
Embossing Powder: Oatmeal, Ginger, Nutmeg, Mushroom
Flowers: Seaside Lilies, Seaside Roses

I'll be back in a few weeks with my September creations! It hardly feels like it should be August already and yet it's nearly over! My wall calendar still says June …

See you then!

June Attic Charm Inspiration from Cathi

I have a big interest in genealogy and when I was younger my aunt gave me copies of many photos of our ancestors, I have some really great images and this month I decided to use family vintage photos for all of my layouts! I just love preserving our history a little bit this way.

For my first layout I feature a gorgeous photo of my grandfather Ernie Jones, circa 1910. I just love the way he is dressed and how they have him seated at a table. I used the Attic Charm Attic Key paper as my base and the gorgeous Mercantile paper featuring the chair image to reflect this in the layers I added to the layout. My title Treasure came form the Calling Cards page.

In this close up you can see the gorgeous Attic Trunk chipboard piece which has been embossed with Imagine Ink Embossing Powder in Ginger and "antiqued" with Sage Embossing Powder!  I have added some Attic Charm Daisies and Courtship Blooms.

In this close up you can see the Mini Flourish covered in gorgeous Imagine Ink Fool's Gold Glitter. I did a lot of background work and I have stamped the Halftone stamps, the postmark stamp from the Desk Set stamp set and a favorite of mine the cross texture stamp from Forever stamp set.  I added mist and masking using my texture paste.

There are lots of gorgeous Blue Fern Flowers on this layout, I have used the Attic Charm Glitter Roses, Courtship Blooms and Tranquil Lilies.  I have used the Imagine Ink Fool's Gold Glitter again to color the Vintage Lock chipboard.  I finished off the layout with lots of stitching around the edges.

This next layout features my great grandmother, Helen Tobin, when she was a young girl along with her sister. I just love the pose with the flower basket and chair...they don't look too happy here but I think they had to stand still for ages back in those days to take the photos!  The base of the layout is the gorgeous Haberdashery paper.

Here in this closeup you can see a cutout from the Calling Cards paper, "The Good Old Days". I have also used the Mercantile paper to build up my layers. Lots of Courtship Blooms here and Attic Charm Daisies.

I used the Graduated Squares and embossed them in Cotton Candy Imagine Ink Embossing Powder and added these to my layers. I tucked in another cut out from the Calling Cards paper and added some kraft tags for journaling.

In my final close up for this layout you can see my trio of chipboard (Film Strip, Vintage Locks, and Adorable) embossed in the gorgeous Ginger Imagine Ink Embossing Powder. I have added some stamping of the cross background stamp for the Forever stamp set. I also love the Making Plans stamp as it is a collage of some of my favorite texture backgrounds and depending on what part of the stamp I ink up I can get book page, script, rules, blue prints, or several other gorgeous patterns! The final stamp I added to the background is the needle book stamp from the Needlework stamp set, randomly around the edges. I added some misting and some masking with texture paste and a bit of splattering. To finish off this layout I added some stitching around the edges.

My final layout is a layout I did for the sketch challenge. This photo is of my Great Aunt Marge who had it taken for my Great Uncle Les before he went off to war. He took it with him to remember her and I called this layout Patience because that is what they needed to make it through war time to see each other again and go on to have many years together and many many children!  For the base paper for this layout I chose the Attic Charm Curio paper. I took many cut outs from the Calling Cards paper to layer under my photo.  Here is the challenge sketch if you want to join in!

In this closeup you can see the gorgeous Attic Charm Glitter Roses and Daisies, as well as a Courtship Rose. I have layered the huge beautiful Roman Clock Set - Large, embossed with Imagine Ink Embossing Powder in Oatmeal underneath the photo.

I embossed the Patience chipboard piece with Imagine Ink Embossing Powder in Mushroom as well as flecks of Oatmeal.  I have added lace and pears to match her dress and necklace as part of my layout and I have tucked in some Bits of Honey chipboard pieces into the photo cluster as well.

To finish off the layout I added some background stamping using the gorgeous cross texture stamp yet again from the Forever set. I added the brick wall stamp from Essential Textures and also the clock stamp from the Bird Vignettes stamp set.  I tucked in a tag with some typed journaling about my great aunt's story and added some stitching again to finish off the layout.

The Attic Charm collection is a gorgeous one!

February Layouts-- By Keren Tamir

Hi Everyone,
Its Keren here with my design team projects for February.
I created two different themed layouts using the latest two new collections from Blue Fern Studios.

"Blush" and "Serendipity"

Both these collections are stunning and perfect for the month of love.

Here is the first layout designed with the Blush collection.

"Love"

I used the Blush "Key to my heart" paper for the background. The Blush's pastel colours were perfect for this beautiful wedding photo of my cousin. I just love what the photographer did with their hands and I had to use a frame to highlight the heart.

The frame I used is the Folkart frame. I added a Romantic chipboard dangle of a locket above and below the frame. I wanted to make it seem as if the frame is dangling from the top of the page.
I embossed both frame and dangle with Imagine Ink cotton candy embossing powder

The chipboard word "Love" and the heart were simply inked in chalk ink.

<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>

"Uniquely You"

My second layout is different from the the one above in term of both theme and colours.

I used the Serendipity "Contemplation" paper for the background and the "Calling cards" paper for layering behind the photo.

To create a natural texture in the background I used a modelling paste over a woodgrain stencil. Then while the paste was still wet, I spread 3 different colours of Blue Fern Studios Imagine Ink embossing powder. I used sage, nutmeg and ginger.

I also used the new whimsy chipboard flourishes as accents. They were simply inked in brown chalk ink.

Thank you so much for visiting the Blue Fern Studios blog today
Have a fantastic day!!

Keren
