May Social Media Features and YOU!

Hello, Blue Fern Studios fans!

It's already time for another Social Media feature!
We've been out and about on Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and a few online galleries just to see what you are creating with your Blue Fern Studios products!

We really want to encourage you to use Instagram if you are not already! It's a great resource for inspiration. And an easy way to scroll through pretty photos without other distractions.
Plus, you can post to other social media sites easily with just one upload.
We are nearing 800 followers! How soon can we reach 1000?!
Thanks for helping us grow our Social Media presence.

Now for some great features:

One of our lovely Facebook followers, Bev Code, posted this layout to our  Facebook page and linked it to her online gallery. She's used the Timeless collection and several pieces of BFS chipboard. Thanks, Bev, for always sharing your work with us!

We found this beauty by @eiko_ehira on Instagram! What a gorgeous way to use the romantic Blush collection! We love when people use our products in new creative ways. Wouldn't you love to reach out and touch this one?! Thank you, @eiko_ehira. This is so inspiring.

This dramatic layout created by Sandra Bernard was found on Pinterest as well as Instagram at @sandradeebernard. Her use of the Timeless collection, raw Blue Fern Studios chipboard and mixed media with co-ordinating florals is breathtaking!

Our Courtship Lane collection has been so well received and Instagram user @bliss_scrap.31 created a gorgeous layout and placed it in a frame. This way you can really go super 3 dimensional and add plenty of chunky embellishments.

Frolic is an older but favorite paper collection! @megu_ig shared this on Instagram. What a great choice for wedding photos and some altered chipboard! Thanks for tagging us @megu_ig! We love it! Such an adorable couple.

Okay, one more!
We couldn't pass  up this beautiful layout by @akemihonma using our Serendipity paper collection. She tagged us on Instagram as well and we pinned it to our Blue Fern Studios Pinterest projects board where we try to pin as many of your creations as we can. It's a win-win!

As always there are new Blue Fern Studios products in the works!
We'll have a new collection to share in about a week or so.

Don't forget to tag us on your projects or your haul videos.
We truly want to feature YOU!

See you next time!

Our April Sketch Challenge Winner & Featured Layouts

It's always a good day at Blue Fern Studios when we get the opportunity to give away a prize, and to feature some of your layouts.  We would like to start by announcing the winner of our April Sketch Challenge.
From a random draw, entry #7 is our winner this month.

Entry #7 was submitted by Dria (5finns) from an online gallery.
Congratulations Dria!  As the winner, you will receive a package of Blue Fern Studios chipboard.
Please send an e-mail, within the next 7 days, to {valerie(at)bluefernstudios(dot)com} to claim your prize.

Here is the layout Dria created for the sketch challenge.  Isn't this an amazing photo?  We love how she combine some peach accents along with several shades of blue to compliment the photo so well.
This layout was created using paper from the Courtship Lane collection.

A huge thank you to all who participated in the April Sketch Challenge.  We have selected three very different styles of layouts to feature this month.  Our congratulations to these amazing women.

First we have this artistic layout created by AnastasiaElena, who flipped the sketch.  The layers of lace, fabric, ribbon, and buttons add some wonderful texture.  She has used paper from our very first collection - Blue Fern Garden.  It's so nice to see this paper from the past!

Next we chose this gorgeous layout by Alesanalovesky, who used paper from the Frolic Collection.  The soft colors and embellishments let the photo be the star of this layout.  Did you notice the Blue Fern "Birds on a Wire" chipboard piece?

Our third feature is this month is from Daria Burmistrova and just couldn't be sweeter.  The layering and fussy cutting are stunning and give this layout such an elegant look.  Daria has used paper from our Blush Collection.

This wraps up our April Sketch Challenge.  Thanks so much for stopping by.
Our May sketch has been posted.  You will find a link in the top right side-bar.
We hope you will join us this month!

Mixed media Wedding canvas and a layout with video by Wilma.

One of my sons will marry his girlfriend in June.
Not a big wedding with white dress and all....
We just have a nice day high up on the alp where they are living in summer with the animals.
Swiss music , food and the cows .... :)

To remember the day I made them a 11x14 mixed media canvas.
It takes another 6 weeks until they get married , so I had to use a Pinterest picture for now :)
Offcourse I will add their own picture to the canvas.

I started by adding gesso, very rough so I had some texture .
Than I painted Spring blossom , not too exact, it is just a background.
Than I cut out flowers from a old curtain I bought for 50 cents at the driftstore .
You know the thin curtains most old paople have.....
They are great for texture or cutouts like the white flowers here.

Some green tule (driftstore too ) and a few little flowers.
I had this chipboard piece for some time and this was a great opportunity to use it.

The Gazebo piece is stippled with gesso.
After it dryed I mixed gesso and lime paint to get a soft color.
I sprenkled it over the whole canvas including the chipboard and than washed it out random.
This way I keep some white which makes it more interessting for me.

I also used the berry stems , did the same, but keep the paint a little darker .
I added it with a little paintbrush, random again.
********

For my second project I made a mixed media layout.
In the video you will see how I sometimes change my mind during the process...

The chipboard pieces are both embossed .
I used the Chelsea Vines and Butterfly friends
Embossingpowder colors : Verdant and garnet

The titel is stippled with gesso...

Papers I used are from the Ombre dream and Frolic collection.

If you like you can watch my video here, hope you will like it...

Thanks for watching my April post

April Layouts and Tutorial with Bec

Hi, it's my day to share all my latest Blue Fern Studios layouts today!!!
This month I have three layouts from three different collections plus a video tutorial.

Capture the Moment

First up is my video with a layout made from the Love Story Collection. I had been going through my papers looking for something else when I came across this background paper (Cotillion) which I automatically wanted to make a layout with, so that's how this layout came about.

Please enjoy my video here

Produts Used:
Love Story Collection Papers: Cotillon & Concerto
Chipboard: Techno Rings & Captured Words Set
Embossing Powder: Ginger, Honey, 14 Karat, Ebony
Stamps: Forever
Glitter: Pyrite
Flowers: Courtship Roses & Courtship Blooms

Smile

For my second layout I used the Courtship Lane collection with lots of the gorgeous new Courtship flowers. I am so super excited that Blue Fern Studios are now making flowers to go with the collections !!!!!! :D

I used the Bourbon Lane paper as my background piece, which I preped with clear gesso before I added colour with pink and purple sprays.  Next I added texture with a stencil and modeling paste, I also added some sparkle with Dusty Rose Glitter.

I cut the Shabby Brick Panel to the size I wanted, then all I did to this piece was add a coat of white gesso. I coloured my other chipboard with embossing powder, the Chelsea Vines  in Lime and the word Smile with Iris.

I fussy cut out various floral images from the Courtship Lane papers to tuck under my flowers.

I finished my layout with a little random stamping.

Products Used:
Courtship lane collection Papers: Bourbon Lane, Lovers Lane, Calling Cards,
Chipboard: Shabby Brick Panel, Chelsea Vines & Smile from the Laughter, Happy, Smile set
Glitter: Dusty Rose
Embossing Powder: Lilac & Lime
Stamp: Essential Textures & Forever
Flowers: Courtship Roses and Courtship Blooms

 Love

Finally I have the layout I made using this months sketch

The April Sketch

Here are my close ups

I used the Frolic Collection paper Calling Cards as my background paper, then I started the layout by stamping the Vintage Edges stamp in embossing ink and adding the Honey Embossing Powder.  I love the delicate details it adds to the background.

Next I added modeling paste through a stencil,  then a tiny bit of colour with a few splashes of pink mist.

I used the Cotton Candy,  Lime and Honey Embossing Powders to colour my chipboard.  Embossing powder is a very simple way of colouring chipboard as it gives you full coverage very easily. All the Blue Fern Imagine Ink Embossing Powders are opaque so there is no need to prime the chipboard with gesso first so it's even easier.

I cut the butterfly images from the Dans Le Jardin paper then added glitter in Dusty Rose and Peridot  to the wings and liquid pearls down the centre to make easy butterfly embellishments.

Products Used:
Frolic Collection Papers: Calling Cards,  Secretary, Allegro and Dans Le Jardin
Chipboard: Roman Clock Set - small,  Love from the Adore, Love Cherish Word Set,  Mini Flourishes and Ornate Frame
Embossing Powder: Cotton Candy,  Lime and Honey
Glitter: Dusty Rose and Peridot
Stamps: Vintage Edges

Thanks for stopping by today

Frolic Fun with Jelissa

Hello friends!

How time flies and we're already in the month of October! Honestly I can't wait for the rest of the year to come by as I know the weather will be a lot cooler (and the northeast winds will be blowing the haze from Indonesia far, far away....)

I'm up today on the Blue Fern Studios blog with two creations for this month. Firstly is this layout of my second boy when he was still a little baby. When our little girl was born she looked exactly like her eldest brother. But as the days went by and I looked at her again, she resembles her second brother! It's amazing how babies change over time in character and appearance.

I'm using the oh-so-gorgeous Frolic collection designed by Michelle Singh. Just love the bright happy colors perfectfor a day out under the sun or just about any other memory that warms your heart. My background work is simple because there were just so much detail in the papers that I wanted to show off.

Some close-ups:

The Deja Vu Atelier chippie which I have covered with a few different mediums. What you see here is crackle paint in pewter (for some reason my cracks are not showing up nicely all over), Perfect Pearls and Sticklers.

For this part of the same chippie, I've painted the flowers with matt paints and leaves with Twinkling H2Os.

Some more detailing here with plastic fillers on one of the chipboard flowers and silver microspheres dotting the leaves. I've layered my photos with pieces from "Calling Cards" from the collection.

My title piece double heat-embossed and sprinkled with distress glitter.

And my balancing cluster with simple fussy cut designs.

Blue Fern Studios products used:

Paper: Frolic - Calling Cards, Friendship, Petite Moments, Veranda, Secretary
Chipboard: Deja Vu Atelier chippie, Mommy's Boy

My second creation is a layout with a video tutorial. This one is of one of my cats who passed on some years back at the age of 13. Grumpy one she was, but always so elegant and graceful (until the day she tried to sneak up on a grasshopper and it backfired spectacularly).

I used lots of pinks from the Frolic collection because she was such a lady.

Some close-ups:

The Framington Medley chipboard layered on top of fussy-cut frames.

Chained Bits chipboard which I snipped and tucked all over.

My title piece from the Love Story collection. It was sitting in a box full of these cut outs and looked perfect for this layout.

My floral cluster.

And here is the video of how I put everything together. Sit back and enjoy the process!

Blue Fern Studios products used:

Paper: Frolic - Secretary, Amoroso, Allegro
Chipboard: Chained Bits, Framington Medley

And that's all I have for today. Thanks for dropping by!

love,

'Memories' by Marta Lapkowska

Hi everyone,

It's Marta Lapkowska here! Are you rady for some inspirations ?
I have made two layouts for today's post. Two different styles but two equally interesting projects.

First page is totally mixed media based layout.

I used brand new paper collection 'Autumn Anthology'. For some interest I added some white string across the page.

I have added some modelling paste through the stencil. Everythig was coloured with sprays.

As my final touch I added chipborad 'Clip Frames'.
You can follow the whole creative process on the video tutorial.
I hope you will enjoy it:

My second make is plain and clean.
As you can see this layout is flat and easy to store. Even tho I am a mixed media girl I like to make sometimes easy pages which could be challening for me. No art mediums ? Oh yes, just stunning papers and few wonderful chipboards!

I must say I love the papers from 'Frolic' collection. Bright, very colourful and beautiful!

I embossed all the chipboards with yellow embossing powder.

I love fussy-cutting :)

I wish you a very creative day !
Love, Marta xx
