April Projects by Cathi

Hello friends, Cathi here with some project for April! I am a little later this month as I was feeling very ill the last two weeks, and have nearly shaken the flu off, but it is still stubbornly lingering!! Once I felt better again I was able to finish off my projects and this first one is one of my favorites!

My daughter was in her first regional youth ballet performance last weekend. I took my cough drops and antibiotics with me and I watched her and the company perform some beautiful classical ballet pieces and contemporary pieces. She looks so elegant and so grown up in this photo, I just had to use it for a layout this month! The base page is the gorgeous Fondness paper from the Blush collection.

I used several cutouts from the Blush Calling Cards paper to tuck in underneath my photo, inking the edges in Walnut Stain Distress Ink.  Here you can see where I used the gorgeous Imagine Ink Snow and Lime Embossing Powders on the gorgeous Dare to Dream chipboard piece and Fancy Fob Watch piece. I also added some touches of Imagine Ink Cotton Candy Embossing Powder, a favorite of mine!

I have added some gorgeous Courtship Blooms and Roses along with some flowers from my stash. Again you can see the gorgeous Imagine Ink Lime, Snow, and Cotton Candy embossing powders on the fob chain.

To finish off my layout I used several stamp sets: Forever, Halftone, and Essential Textures using Walnut Stain and Worn Lipstick Distress Stains.

My next layout features the Serendipity collection and a photo of my great grandmother! I love to use actual vintage family photos of my own family and find this communion photo beautiful! For the base of this page I have used Serendipity Chronicle paper.

I cut the gorgeous Floral Spray chipboard piece and tucked it in under and around my photos. I colored the chipboard with the Imagine Ink Verdant embossing powder. You can also see some cut out pieces tucked in around the photo from the Serendipity Calling Cards page.

I used a lot of beautiful flowers from my stash and also tucked in two green Courtship Blooms. Again I took the Imagine Ink Verdant Embossing Powder and colored in the Reminisce chipboard from the Serendipity Words 2 set.  I did a lot of background stamping using the Essential Textures, Texture Circles and Forever stamp sets.

My final little chipboard I added was this adorable bird from the All Natural set that I tucked in my flower cluster. I used Imagine Ink Buttercup embossing powder to color in the little bird. I love it!

Finally, here is my layout I did for the April sketch challenge, featuring the gorgeous Courtship Lane papers and my ballerina who isn't camera shy in her costume for her youth ballet show, Coppelia!

Here is the gorgeous sketch this layout was based on:

Of course I had to used the ballerina from the Music Box chipboard, embossed with Imagine Ink Embossing Powder in Cotton Candy.  I have also done a little cluster in the top right hand corner of the layout with the Turkish Bits, again with the Imagine Ink Embossing Powder in Cotton Candy. Here you can see the gorgeous Courtship Lane Roses.

I have tucked in some of the Courtship Lane West Plaza paper under my photos here, adding more Courtship Lane Roses and Blooms. To tie in with the black lacing on the costume I have added some black seambinding in a bow and some black lace.  I have added some stamping from the music stamp from the Texture Circles Stamp Set and the diamond pattern from the Forever Stamp Set.

Here you can see more Courtship Lane blooms and the I Think You're Wonderful Chipboard  which I have embossed with the Imagine Ink Embossing Powders in Cotton Candy and Heavenly

To finish off my layout, I added some masking and molding paste and some purple splashes. I tucked in a tag for journaling and a Reneabouquet butterfly.

Moments in Life with Camilla

Hi everybody! Camilla here with a new layout and a card made with fabulous chipboards from Blue Fern Studios.

For my layout I used the gorgeous Shabby Layered Frame to frame a photo of my newest tiny niece, Mira. I just love how it turned out. I also used the Fancy Fob Watch to get a time dimension to the layout. The chipboards are dabbed with quite a lot of white gesso to get some texture.

Some close-ups:

The card is made for a friend. She is soon attending a wedding and wanted me to create a card. I wanted the card to be elegant and one of the hearts from the Blue Fern Studios Heart Set was perfect as a centre of the card. I kept it plain and raw - suited for the grey tones of the card.

This is it from me this month, but I hope you stop by in a few days to check out the projects from my design team friends here at Blue Fern Studios!

Camilla

3 Projects w/Erin Blegen

Hi, everyone! Erin Blegen here to get you motivated to dig out your chipboard and get creating! I have three different types of projects for you showcasing several Blue Fern Studios chipboard pieces and I'm going to walk you through how I was inspired by them :)

Let's get started!

"Climb Up"
I really wanted to put to use some of the "longer" pieces such as the 12" Calligraphic Border and the 12" Page Chains.

I pieced them apart to suit my project.

I especially love how the Calligraphic Border placed vertically pulls the eye to my son's tree climbing scene :)

Calligraphic Border

Page Chains

Fancy Fob Watch

"Laughter" {Tag}
For this tag, I was inspired by the empty spaces within the chipboard pieces. All 3 pieces used here were backed with paper, filled with glossy accents and then a variety of beads.

Brigitte Butterfly Set

Vintage Keys

Ironwork Accents

"Blessings" {Card}
I wanted to create a "stacked" look with this card, so after layering my papers I proceeded to layer my chipboard pieces as well. I used a chicken wire stamp to decorate the bottom layer before applying a turquoise chalk ink to the Vintage Lock and topping it with glossy accents, and then finally randomly applied some ink to the title piece.

Thank-you for checking out my projects today!
If you haven't yet, make sure to check out the June Sketch Challenge~ still plenty of time to play along :)

Take care~!

The beauty of raw chipboard

Hi ya!

I often hear less advanced scrappers say how much they would love to use chipboard on their pages, but that they are a tad afraid of doing that because they think it takes a lot of difficult techniques to make them look good.

The 3 pages I am going to share with you today, show how easily chipboards can be tailored to suit those who are still experimenting with techniques.

My first page is kept in a muted shabby style and the chipboards I have used have been dressed to reflect the same.

The Art Nouveau Frame was painted, misted and chalked in many different hues of alabaster, cream, peach, marigold, orange and brown to blend in with the other details of the page.

The Country Picket Fence was randomly and unevenly primed with gesso before misted. Look how weather beaten it looks! I just love when the raw chipboard peeks out.

Chalk is a quick and easy way of achieving any colour effects you want.

The next page also shows quick touches to colour match your chipboard with the colour scheme of your page.

The Calligraphic Border was cut in smaller sections and painted in a couple of different layers of pink. Cutting up pieces make them last longer and can be used on several layouts.

The Fancy Fob Watch had the same treatment as the Calligraphic Border. The chain that belongs to the Watch will be used on another layout.

My last page shows again how beautiful peeks of raw chipboard can be.

The Princess Window was not even primed before I just randomly swiped paint over it and then added a dab or two of gesso. The Royal Border - Large got the same treatment. Look how wonderfully their shape stand out.
