White Wash

Hi everyone!  It's Valerie today with a few layouts using the amazing new collection from Blue Fern Studios -Ombré Dreams.  After I created my first two layouts, I realized a pattern.  I was treating all the chipboard pieces with white paint.  So I kept with that trend for all 3 layouts.

For this layout,  I wanted to keep things simple and really let the photo and soft background pattern show through.  I have used the Wild Flourish Bundle which was painted white.  I first primed the chipboard with gesso, and then painted it with Titanium White paint.  I find it gives a whiter white than just using gesso.
This paper is Leslie's Dream

To add a little color, I brushed some orange ink on the edges, which you can see better in the close-up image below.

This image shows the glorious goodness of this paper!  Aren't the details amazing?

For my next layout, I chose the beautiful blue Susan's Dream paper from the Ombré Dreams collection, since my niece has such beautiful blue eyes.

The following 2 close ups show the Twilight Garden Frame, which I cut in half.  I tucked one half to the right of the photo, and the remaining part of the frame can be seen to the left.  I primed these pieces, painted them white, then stamped them with a script stamp.  Instead of using black, I used a softer gray chalk ink.

I inked the Calligraphic Border with one of the same colors of distress ink that I used with a stencil.

For my third layout, it was pink all the way!  I began with the Shannon's Dream paper.  I chose the less patterned side of the paper because I wanted to add some book paper and lots of mist.

I used several pieces of chipboard on this layout.  Initially I painted them all white, but ended up applying embossing powder to some of them.  Here you can see the lamp from the Second Hand Furnishings set.  I used some chunky embossing powder on this one.  You can also see a piece of the Leafy Page Accents that I cut into several pieces and used throughout the layout.

Here I have used one of the Ornate Medallions, which was painted white and embossed.

In the main cluster I have used the Ornate Medallions, Doodle Flowers and Leafy Page Accents, which I have painted white.  A few of them have also been heat embossed.

Once again I used gray ink and mist on this layout.  I really like it instead of black on light colored layouts.

I hope you enjoy your day, and thanks for stopping by!

HAPPY NATIONAL SCRAPBOOKING DAY!!!! 2 layouts and a Mini Album by Lisa Gregory

I am sooooo happy to be posting my projects on National Scrapbooking Day!! I challenged my self to scrap 1 layout today for the occasion. I am a slow scrapper, so this was really a challenge for me!! But it got done!!! I followed the beautiful sketch for May and gave it a little twist by mixing up the design a little. Don't forget to join the May sketch challenge.

Here is my take on the May Sketch Challenge.

I heat embossed all of the chipboard with the same green color for continuity.I also used Blue Fern Garden Paper for this layout. The paper is Boudior.

Calligraphic Border
Grande Cages

I absolutely love the Dangles. Every singe one is just so elegant!! I used the Shabby Brick Bits here and there for texture.

Here is a closeup of one of the Dangles. I used distress embossing powder on them for a stone look finish.

This next project is a mini album I created and is still a work in progress at it will be a little chunky with tags, envelopes and pictures. The smaller Blue Fern Studios Chipboard is perfect for mini albums.

I heat embossed all of the chipboard with the same beautiful bronze color to make them look like metal bits. Then I also did the closure clips as well.

Close up of the lock and key.

Here is a montage of 4 of the inserts that are placed in the pockets of my album. There are tags, fold out pockets and little envelopes that will be tucked into the mini.

3 Projects w/Erin Blegen

Hi, everyone! Erin Blegen here to get you motivated to dig out your chipboard and get creating! I have three different types of projects for you showcasing several Blue Fern Studios chipboard pieces and I'm going to walk you through how I was inspired by them :)

Let's get started!

"Climb Up"
I really wanted to put to use some of the "longer" pieces such as the 12" Calligraphic Border and the 12" Page Chains.

I pieced them apart to suit my project.

I especially love how the Calligraphic Border placed vertically pulls the eye to my son's tree climbing scene :)

Calligraphic Border

Page Chains

Fancy Fob Watch

"Laughter" {Tag}
For this tag, I was inspired by the empty spaces within the chipboard pieces. All 3 pieces used here were backed with paper, filled with glossy accents and then a variety of beads.

Brigitte Butterfly Set

Vintage Keys

Ironwork Accents

"Blessings" {Card}
I wanted to create a "stacked" look with this card, so after layering my papers I proceeded to layer my chipboard pieces as well. I used a chicken wire stamp to decorate the bottom layer before applying a turquoise chalk ink to the Vintage Lock and topping it with glossy accents, and then finally randomly applied some ink to the title piece.

Thank-you for checking out my projects today!
If you haven't yet, make sure to check out the June Sketch Challenge~ still plenty of time to play along :)

Take care~!

The beauty of raw chipboard

Hi ya!

I often hear less advanced scrappers say how much they would love to use chipboard on their pages, but that they are a tad afraid of doing that because they think it takes a lot of difficult techniques to make them look good.

The 3 pages I am going to share with you today, show how easily chipboards can be tailored to suit those who are still experimenting with techniques.

My first page is kept in a muted shabby style and the chipboards I have used have been dressed to reflect the same.

The Art Nouveau Frame was painted, misted and chalked in many different hues of alabaster, cream, peach, marigold, orange and brown to blend in with the other details of the page.

The Country Picket Fence was randomly and unevenly primed with gesso before misted. Look how weather beaten it looks! I just love when the raw chipboard peeks out.

Chalk is a quick and easy way of achieving any colour effects you want.

The next page also shows quick touches to colour match your chipboard with the colour scheme of your page.

The Calligraphic Border was cut in smaller sections and painted in a couple of different layers of pink. Cutting up pieces make them last longer and can be used on several layouts.

The Fancy Fob Watch had the same treatment as the Calligraphic Border. The chain that belongs to the Watch will be used on another layout.

My last page shows again how beautiful peeks of raw chipboard can be.

The Princess Window was not even primed before I just randomly swiped paint over it and then added a dab or two of gesso. The Royal Border - Large got the same treatment. Look how wonderfully their shape stand out.
