December projects with Kerryn Lawson

As another year draws to a close I would like to take this opportunity to share my final Blue Fern Studios projects with you.  It has been a fabulous 6 months.  Thankyou for allowing me to share my work with you.

Today I have a couple of cards and a layout to share.  First up is a general purpose card featuring the Tweet Friends chipboard.

After being primed with gesso a combination of green paints was applied to the branches and leaves.  By applying the gesso first the paint goes on beautifully and rich.  The birds were painted with a combination of blue paints with a touch of gold glitter applied to the wings as a finishing touch.

For my second card I focussed on creating a bold centrepiece using a Quatrefoil Garden Panel.

Again the chipboard was primed with gesso and once dry gold paint was applied with a paintbrush.  Afterwards bronze paint was applied with my finger to give a rustic, random finish.  The sentiment, from the Optimist word set, was painted with black paint to provide a lovely contrast against the bolder colours of the Quatrefoil Garden Panel and the other embellishments.

For my final project I have a layout of my daughter with a background featuring the cut-out pieces from the Quatrefoil Panel.

I have a bag full of these fabulous little cut-out pieces and I refuse to part with them.  They are a great way to add texture and interest to a background as well as creating a great opportunity to play with inks, mists and paints.

The cut-out pieces were primed with gesso and adhered in position on the page.  They were first painted with a textured paint before being painted with Shimmerz paints to better match the colour palette I was looking for.  The Bits of Honey piece was painted with a combination of mists that complemented the papers I had chosen to use.

The same products were used repeatedly on the page.  The same combination of mists and paints were used on the chipboard and on the background to create an element of consistency to the page.  The same is true for the Garden Daisies - Small, with mists already used elsewhere on the page being used to paint it.

It has been an absolute pleasure to design for Blue Fern Studios.

Thankyou,
Kerryn

Two Projects from Erin!

Good morning! I hope that your Christmas went well and that you're getting ready to welcome in a new year :). We're back to business as usual here at Blue Fern Studios, and I'm happy to share some classy Christmas cheer with you all, as well as a sweet and simple project too!

"Let it Snow"
Blue Fern Studios has released some beautiful holiday themed chipboard pieces over the past month or so, as well as some wintry ones as well- simply perfect for this time of year! The "Let it Snow" set includes the title piece and snowflake you see here, as well as a tree and some additional snowflakes. A must-have!

For the frame I first primed with gesso before applying embossing ink. I then sprinkled on some sparkly white and gold embossing powders as well as some glitter and then setting with a heat gun. The snowflake was treated with white embossing powder and set. Finally, the title piece was stamped with chalk ink and sealed with some glossy accents.

Next I have a sweet and simple card for you!

"A Very Good Life"
I love the "Winter Page Dangles", and I have been envisioning creating a tall, narrow card with one for a while now. I wanted to make sure the chipboard piece was the focus, so I kept the rest of my card fairly simple.

I used a white chalk ink before adding embossing ink and glittery white embossing powder to my chipboard. It turned out sparkly and feminine which was perfect for my girly card!

Thank-you for stopping by amidst the holiday happenings!
I hope you've had a chance to play along with our sketch challenge this month too- there's still time left to enter!

A Little Bit of Summer, A Little Bit of Winter

Good morning!! Kelly here today.
I hope everyone is doing well..I am sure most are quite busy preparing for the upcoming holidays!! I wish you all a safe and happy holiday season!!

"Family"
I just adore this photo of my oldest daughter, and my nephew, taken a couple summers ago. They are absolutely adorable!! They are only a month apart in age :)
I used a few little bits of Blue Fern. Starting with the Film Strips. All of the pieces on this layout were treated the same...colored with chalk ink, given a dab here and there of shimmering paints, and a touch of gesso.

Below I used one of the Memory Frames, along with a section of the Damask Flourish to complete my cluster.

"Fly"

To create an interesting textured background, I used a section of the Screen Panel. I gave it a couple coats of gesso, glued it to the page, and added different colors of paint here and there to make it blend nicely.

Next I added a handful of the Bohemian flowers to my flowers clusters. These are so cute and fun for a summery page!

"Peace on Earth" Tag

Lastly, I switched gears into a wintery tag. I adore the snow covered pine tree from the Let it Snow pack, alont with the Shabby Flakes. I gave them all a coat of white paint, some metallic white dimensional paint, and a bit of crushed glass glitter. I  added just a touch of green to the tree using a Gelato.

Thank you so much for looking at my projects today!!
Have a great weekend!!

Happy Holiday from Camilla

Hi everybody! In just a few days we will be celebrating Christmas and I wish everybody a happy holiday. For my December blog post I have created some holiday themed projects using beautiful chipboards from Blue Fern Studios.

For this layout I have used three different kinds of chipboards - the Swirly Doodle, snowflakes from Let It Snow Set and Filmstrips. The chipboards are first painted with gold and I then added some gold glimmer glitter paint here and there.

For this card I used a snowflake from Let It Snow Set and a frame from the Ever After Frame Set. The frame is painted in pearl modeling cream. The snowflake is covered with snow tex.

Another card where I have used a snowflake from Let It Snow Set. I have also used two trees from the Winter Trees Set. I left the snowflake just as it is. The trees are painted in white gesso and then I added some brown embossing powder and also some gold glam glitter paint.

I wish you a happy holiday! See you next year!

Creations with Patter

Hi! It's Patter jumping in a little earlier this month. I thought I would share two cards that you could easily create and use as thank you cards or whatever occasion you need after the Christmas holiday. You will need the Blue Fern Studios Shabby Layered Frame chipboard, Gabrielle Butterfly Set, and the Graduated Circles. Let's get started!

Hello
For my first creation, I wanted to use the Shabby Layered Frame. This frame measures 4 1/2" x 5" so it was perfect to use for a card frame. I cut my card base and then got to work on dressing up the frame. I started with a layer of gesso on the frame, and then I used some white DazzelerZ. Once that was all dry, I used a sponge to add touches of gold paint on the frame randomly. Here is how it turned out:

I used a "hello" sentiment but that could easily be changed to any sentiment you would like to use.

Made for You
For my next card, I used two pieces of Blue Fern Studios chipboard. The first is the center from the Graduated Circles set. I used the lightest color of distress ink to color it. I wanted it to match the woodgrain color in the patterned paper I used. It looks like I left the chipboard raw but there was a slight color change when adding the ink. It turned out to be just the color I wanted.

And for the Gabrielle Butterfly, I covered it in gesso first. Once it was dry, I added two layers of DazzelerZ. I let the first layer dry before adding the second layer since the butterfly is so delicate. It helped to build up the paint a bit by allowing it to dry between layers on this delicate piece.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you got some useful ideas to try on your Blue Fern Studios chipboard. Have a Merry Christmas!
