January Projects with Bec - with video tutorial

Hi, I'm so excited to bring you my first DT post for Blue Fern Studios.

Here is a little bit about myself

Hi, I’m Bec. I'm originally from New Zealand but I now live in Brisbane Australia with my Husband and Daughter. During the week I work as a Chemist, but every other spare minute I spend in my craft space.
I started scrapbooking after my Daughter was born in 2006 and I have just become more obsessed every year. In the last couple of years I have found mixed media scrapbooking and that has become my new passion. I also love to make altered art creations, canvases and card/tags. My scrap style is girly, I have to add flowers and pearls to everything
I’m very grateful to be on some wonderful design teams and get to spend my weekend doing what I love.
Joining the Blue Fern Studio team and creating with their amazing products is a dream come true :)

You can find me on:

To start off this month I even have a video tutorial for you, this is a layout using the Love Story Collection.

Next up I have a layout created using the January Sketch

Here is this months sketch, there is still lots of time to get your entries in for this.

I used the Autumn Anthology collection for this layout.
I started the layout by using the Stamps Weathered Doilies and Brocade Texture with embossing ink and the embossing powders in Honey and Bonny Blue.

I added my colour with mists and then some modelling paste through a stencil to give the background more texture.

The chipboard pieces Flutter Medley and Arrow Word are coloured with the embossing powders - Bonny Blue, Petal, Oatmeal and Honey. I coloured the Floral Lattice pieces with peach mica powder.

I cut several pieces of the Autumn Anthology paper to layer under my photo, I distressed all the edges and added brown ink to give a shabby look.

December Inspiration with Melinda Thompson

Hello my crafty friends :)

This is my final projects for Blue Fern Studios.  My 12 month term finishes at the end of December and I can't believe how quick that 12 months went!

With my last 2 projects I used the new Vintage Christmas paper range. Its a beautiful paper range with such a range of colours to choose.

In my first project I was inspired by the gorgeous pinks, reds and aqua's. Such a pretty combination.

"Merry Christmas"

Lots of paper strips and fussy cutting...oh what fun! Chipboard pieces have been lightly painted in Gesso first and then covered with mists, inks and glitter :)

Paper: Vintage Christmas
Chipboard: Holiday Frame, Holly Sprigs, Word Ornaments

My second project is full of glitter and shine! I have used the new Imagine Ink Glitter range - Carribean and Pyrite on my chipboard pieces and a sprinkle here and there in my paper. I was truly shining after this project!!! :):)

"Magical"

Paper: Vintage Christmas
Chipboard:  Winter Village, Winter Titles, Winter Page Dangles, Christmas Ornaments, Beaded Strings

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you feel inspired to create this holiday season. Thank you Blue Fern Studios for having me on the team this past 12 months...its been absolutely fun!

Take care

Angelica's June Projects

Hello everyone! Angelica here today to share my June projects with you! Since being on the DT I've been using one paper collection each month. Well, time to mix it up. Today, my three layouts are from three different paper lines.

First up is my take on the June Sketch just flipping it. I used two papers Ombre Dreams Collection; Charlotte's Dream and Joyce's Dream.

I used the Beaded String Chippy to further embellish my title. I used the word "Smile" for the Laughter, Happy, Smile set.

I used the Circle Vine chipboard piece to hold my photos.

For this page I used Boudoir from the Blue Fern Garden collection as my background. I fussed cut the Wisdom paper from the Montage Collection and matted my photo.

I really don't do much to my chipboard pieces. Just some thick gesso and mists.  Here I used the Estate Railing piece.
One of my favorite chippies are the Roman Clock Sets. Here I used the Large Set..

Last but not least, I used the Love Story Collection. My daughter loves Alice in Wonderland so I made this for her. This line was perfect! I used the True Harmony, Twenty One, and Amazing Heart papers.
I used the Queen of Hearts piece for my title and Heart Crowns as embellishments.
The Card Suit Melody chippy is so unique! Love it!

Well, I hope that you've enjoyed my projects for June! I will be back in August for I'm breaking for July!

Love Story with Angelica

Hello friends! I'm happy to be here today to share three layouts I created using the beautiful new collection, Love Story. This is collection is so pretty and versatile. Some of the papers have vibrant bold colors and others are more subtle. Good for those shabby pages!

My first layout is based on the February Sketch. I used the lightest paper, The Grand Ball, for the base of my page and the Calling Card paper. I did some masking and used the little stars on the Forever Stamp for some texture.

I painted the Boston Lattice, Love, and Heart Set with heavy gesso. For the negative part of the heart I stamped with the Texture Stamp 1 when the gesso was still wet. It left a nice impression of the honeycombs. Once all the pieces were dry I did some misting for some color.

For my second page I want to use a whole different color combo from the sketch page. The reds and greens in the True Harmony paper is gorgeous.  I also used the Twenty One paper for layering. I painted the Brick Panel chippy with gesso and stucco paste. Then rubbed some ink on the raised texture.

For the Cherish chippy I just painted it red and added glitter so it can pop from the page.

Finally, for my third page I've been waiting for the perfect time to use the Brown Eyed Girl Chippy.
The colors that I had in mind worked just right with the Sweet Song, Concerto, and Calling Card papers. I cut a bit off the end of the Beaded Strings chippy.

Thank you for visiting! I hope that I've inspired you!

My 2-year-old daughter is very much pleased with the umbrella these days.
A figure with the umbrella for adults is lovely!

I expressed the atmosphere that it rained with modeling paste and a rhinestone.
The pasteboard paper is also colored by watercolor.

Jackie's June Creations - A Layout and A Mixed Media Gift Bag and Card

Hello Blue Fern Studios Fans! Jackie with you today to share my June Blue Fern Studios projects. I've had a blast playing with the new Ombre Dreams papers, and I have two Ombre Dreams projects to share with you today, but I'd like to start off with a very dimensional layout using Blue Fern Gardens.

I've mentioned before how much I love the thickness of these papers (and if you haven't had a chance to pick up some Ombre Dreams paper, they are printed on the same paper) because of how well they take media, and I've piled it on again here, with gesso, mists, inks and watercolour paints.

I matted my photo collage using two layers of Blue Fern chipboard, starting with one of the Beaded Strings circles. I painted it with a thick gesso (because I find super heavy gesso spreads so much easier with better coverage), then added some touches of watercolour paints, and then added a bit more gesso once those were dry to tone everything down a little. I also added some grey ink to the outside for definition.

The second layer of my photo mat is one of the Quatrefoil Garden Panels. I cut it in half lengthwise so that I could have a border both on top of and below my photos, and painted it with a shimmery acrylic paint.

To create a horizon line across my page, I used a piece of one of the Jeweled Page Dangles left over from another project. The links are coloured with chalk ink, and I used some of the shimmery watercolour paint I used on the page to colour the flower, and topped it with some bling.

- Blue Fern Garden: Picnic
- Blue Fern Chipboard: Beaded Strings, Jeweled Page Dangles, Quatrefoil Garden Panels

With Father's Day just around the corner, I set out to make a masculine gift bag, though in the end it turned out a little too colourful to be truly masculine, but I love it!

I combined Blue Fern Garden and Ombre Dream papers for this one; they work so well together! After I built my base layers, I added strips and squares I cut from scrap pieces and the cut-away strips at the bottom of the papers, and added random colour to the sides of all of these.

I then added stencilling, stamping and splattering to the background along with some sewing thread.

I coloured the Grand Balloon Chippy with several different colours of acrylic and watercolour paints, layering them on until I was happy with the effect then adding some gesso to help to tie the piece in with the background.

See the wonderful texture from the acrylic paint? Some metal pieces provided nice finishing touches to the balloon.

 - Blue Fern Garden: Signature, Timeless, Parlour
- Ombre Dreams: Susan's Dream
- Blue Fern Chipboard: Grand Balloon

I so enjoyed making the gift bag that I decided to make a card along the same lines, this time using one of the Eastern Lanterns, and one of my favourite colours, orange.

On the Grand Balloon chippy I achieved the texture by dabbing with my finger in the wet paint; with this one I held my heat gun close to the acrylic paint to cause it to bubble and create this gorgeous effect. I then added some modelling paste and gesso to enhance the aged effect.

I treated one of the Leafy Page Accents in a similar manner, though I used a copper mist instead of the orange acrylic as my base colour (I applied clear gesso to the piece first, so that the mist would sit on top instead of seeping into the porous chipboard).

- Ombre Dreams: Susan's Dream, Shannon's Dream
