March Projects w/Erin Blegen

Hello :)

Erin Blegen here today to share my March projects with you. I always enjoy varying my projects each month, so today I have for you a layout, a card, and a tag...a little bit of something for everyone.

Let's get started :)

"Always"
The large panels available from Blue Fern Studios like this "Number Grid" one are so great for working with 12" x 12" layouts. I like to cut mine up and make them suit my design.

I painted the panel white before randomly dabbing it with embossing ink, sprinkling with Stampendous "Shabby Pink Embossing Enamel", and setting with a heat gun. I love the pretty pink and textured bits splattered throughout the chipboard to mimic my background.

"Different" Card

As like anyone who has ever used chipboard before, sometimes the raw look just suits the project best. Here I've used a few various pieces and have simply dabbed them randomly with a Prima white chalk edger pad before adding them to my project. Combined with some of the more subtle Blue Fern Studios papers, I created a neutral, monochromatic look which I love.

"Love" Tag
Sometimes downsizing a chipboard piece can give you exactly what you need for a particular project. Here I've taken the middle out of the "Helen's Doily" to beautifully accent this tag. Primed with gesso, covered with a Prima "Shabby Tote" chalk edger pad, and adorned with pearls :) The Blue Fern Garden "Picnic" paper was whitewashed with gesso to make it a little bit more subtle in order to achieve the look I was going for.

Spring wedding with Jelissa

Hello everyone! We're almost at the end of March, can you believe it?!

Today I have two projects I created for Blue Fern Studios based on two of the most wonderful things ever - Spring and weddings! The first is a layout using their beautiful paper collection "Blue Fern Garden". I cannot get enough of this paper line - the colors are soft and shabby and just perfect for my mixed media projects.

"The Big Day"

The photo I used was from my own wedding 6 years ago, how time have passed! Love how the pinks and greens come together in this paper collection which gives a feel of Spring.  I primed the papers with clear gesso so that I can still achieve the water color effects without masking the beautiful designs on the papers.

Some close-ups:

I've used the Rose Bouquet chippie, what a beautiful piece!  I used one half of the chipboard for this corner cluster. I covered it with gesso and painted it over with some watercolors and randomly sprinkled clear embossing powder and heat set them. The result is a very uneven texture with small drops of embossed surface looking like dew. Lastly I patted some coloured texture paste over the leaves and flowers. In this cluster, I have also tucked the key piece from Romantic Page Dangles under my photo and I only did simple heat embossing.

For the title, I used "The Big Day" from the "Wedding Words" set and layered green water colors in three different shades for a marbled effect.

My second project is a canvas which I made for a very special couple on their wedding day.

"Wedding Canvas"

One of my favourite background elements are the panel chipboards as they add dimension and design. Here, I've used cut outs from the Marrakesh Panel and painted them with green watercolors.

I've rotated a piece of the Ever After frame set and painted it with at least four different shades of green for a marbled look and finished off with some script stamping.

In this cluster, I used two pieces from the Jeweled Trinkets set. I snipped of the chains on either end of one of the pieces and used it as a centre for one of the flowers. On the ends of each motif, I added a dab of dimensional paint and topped the centre with a gem. I've also used the in-between hexagon bits from Bits of Honey to accent the background.

"(love these) Memories" by Lisa Griffith

Hello everyone! I hope this post find you all well. It's my turn to share my projects today. The first layout I created was an experiment just to get some interesting looks using the new line of paper from Blue Fern Studios.

"(love these) Memories"

Here I started with the Blue Fern Studios paper called "Signature", and created some texture using heavy gesso and a stencil, and then sprayed with Ranger Vintage Photo ink and water. These papers really are amazing how well they hold up to whatever mediums you want to use. (There was a little bit of warping, but a small price to pay.) I love how the paper, inks and gesso mixed to create a watercolor effect. The chip board pieces I used is one of Captured Words piece that I cut in half and pieces of the Chainlink Panel. For the chipboards I coated them with gesso and then painted them with brown ink and then a coat of clear crackle paint. I was trying to get them to look like wood to match my photo. I also used a small strip cut off from the bottom of the paper, and a piece of the blue packaging that comes with the chipboard that I punched with a lacy punch and layered under my photo. I also cut out some butterflies Blue Fern Studios paper "In Bloom".

Next up I have a layout that I created using a vintage photo of my mum.......

"Pauline"

Here I used three different pieces of chip board called Circle Motifs, Petite Windows and Iron Work Accents. For all of the pieces I painted with Silks paint in Emperor's Gold (my new all-time favorite) and then stamped over the pieces with black ink. I added some bits of a vintage magazine, some Prima flowers and pink paint.

And my last project is a mixed media card I made for St. Patrick's Day.

I created my card using a piece of the paper "Signature" as my base, lots of stamping, misting, and the gorgeous Blue Fern Studios chip board called Blooming Foliage. I covered the chipboard with a light coat of gesso, and then painted it with green mist and gold paint and then a coat of Glossy Accents.

I hope you have enjoyed my projects and feel a little inspired?
Thanks for looking,
Hugs, Lisa xo
