Hello December

Hello Blue Fern Fans.  I case you haven't noticed, December is not far away!  We are excited to share with you today another project from Dorota Kopec, our November Fan of the Month.  For this beautiful layout, Dorota has chosen the Wonderland paper from our Vintage Christmas collection as the background.  The more I look at it, the more I see.  This layout is the definition of eclectic - not following one system, but selecting and using what are considered the best elements of all systems.

The chipboard pieces used are the Stars & Berries Frame which is layered beneath the photo.
Peeking out from the floral clusters you can see holly from the Holly Sprigs set.
And lastly, the dangling snowflake is from the 3-piece set of Winter Page Dangles.

This close-up shows just what I'm talking about when I say her layout is eclectic.  Here is a gorgeous vintage photo, and the paper certainly has a vintage feel.  But she has used a frame that would be considered modern, and stenciled numbers on the background.  And there is nothing vintage about the color combination, but it all combines for a cohesive look.

In the corner, Dorota has put together a little vignette by cutting the Santa and his sleigh image from the Holiday Cards paper (Vintage Christmas II) and adding it to the design that is already on the paper.  How cute is that?

Dorota will have one more project for us this month, so be sure to check back.

Vintage Christmas and Heartland Inspiration by Kris Berc

Hello, Blue Fern Studios fans!

I'm super excited to be here today to kick off the new year with my first projects for Blue Fern Studios!

My name is Kris Berc.  I live in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada with my wonderful husband, our amazing daughter, and our 3 fluffy kitties.  I have a career as a school psychologist, and I work with students who are experiencing learning, behavioral, and emotional difficulties in school.  At home, I enjoy hanging out with my family, keeping up with social media, and of course, scrapbooking, all the while feeding my addiction to diet coke.

Scrapbooking is my escape from life's demands.  I enjoy the creative process as much as the finished project.  There is just something so calming about playing with pretty paper and embellishments!

I'm absolutely thrilled to be designing for Blue Fern Studios.  I hope that I can inspire you to take out your Blue Fern products and create some very pretty things!

I'd love for you to visit me on my social media:

Now, on to my layouts for January!

It's a Holly Jolly Christmas

This is my daughter on Christmas day in 2015.  She looks so joyful in the photo, so I felt that the "It's a Holly Jolly Christmas" chipboard piece was a great match.  I heat embossed it with Antique Gold embossing powder.

I used the same embossing powder on some of the Turkish Bits chipboard pieces, and I tucked them in behind my flower clusters.

I have a tremendous love for flowers, so I love to use them in clusters on my projects.  I used a handful of the Christmas Blooms and Soft Blossoms, which I supplemented with a few additional flowers from my stash.

The flowers all have a subtle touch of gesso dabbed on to soften up the look.  Below you can get a pretty good luck at one of my favorite Blue Fern stamps which I used with black ink on my background.  It's from the Forever set, and it adds awesome detail to the background.

Blue Fern Studios Products used:
paper: Vintage Christmas (Magical, Noel, Deck the Halls)
chipboard: It's a Holly Jolly Christmas, Turkish Bits
embossing powder: Antique Gold
flowers: Christmas Blooms, Soft Blossoms
stamp: Forever

Sweet

When I first laid eyes on the Heartland collection's Red Rose Ball paper, I immediately knew that I wanted to use a photo of my daughter in her jazz costume from last dance season.  That red costume was just screamin' for this paper!  I chose this sweet photo of Allison and her friend, Trinity, and as such, chose the "Sweet" chipboard piece for the title, which I embossed with Antique Gold powder.

I used the "Heartland Corner" chipboard piece to frame the photo.  I embossed part of it with Antique Gold embossing powder and part with Snow embossing powder for some contrast.

My flower cluster contains gorgeous blooms from 4 different Blue Fern collections: Heartland Blossoms, Heartland Roses and Blooms, Christmas Blossoms, and Spring Lilies.  I added a metal piece, a resin flower, sequins and bling from my stash.

Blue Fern Studios Products used:
paper: Heartland (Red Rose Ball, Kiss Kiss, Love Notes)
chipboard: Heartland Corner, Sweet
embossing powder: Antique Gold, Snow
flowers: Heartland Blossoms, Heartland Roses and Blooms, Christmas Blooms, Spring Lilies
stamp: Serendipity Medley

Sweet on You

One of the things that I love about living in Las Vegas is the fact that we can spend time outdoors during the winter without freezing.  I took this photo of my daughter a little over a month ago while she was posing in our backyard.

Ohh are the Heartland flowers pretty!  I clustered some light pink and white Heartland Roses and Blooms with some dark pink and white Heartland Blossoms and dabbed them slightly with gesso for a softening effect.  I tucked in a chipboard piece from the "Winter Page Dangles" set which I treated with Silver Bells embossing powder.

The "Sweet on You" chipboard piece was also treated with Silver Bells embossing powder and a few dabs of gesso to blend it with the rest of the page.

Blue Fern Studios Products used:
paper: Heartland (Valentine Party, Kiss Kiss, Love Notes)
chipboard: Sweet on You, Winter Page Dangles
embossing powder: Silver Bells
flowers: Heartland Blossoms, Heartland Roses and Blooms
stamp: Esssential Textures

Maja Is All About Christmas

Good morning, Blue Fern Studios friends, welcome to the blog today!

Christmas is just a week ahead and Blue Fern Studios has two fabulous Christmas collections, so my today's post is filled with Christmas-themed projects :-)
Let's begin with a Vintage Christmas 2 layout:

I just love the colour combo of this latest collection! Coral pink and mint perfectly match the traditional red, white and green in a fresh, cheerful palette. And plaid is one of my all-time favourite patterns, so I built my composition on the "back" side of the Jolly paper. I added strips of papers on the upper edge of the page and the title word directly on the photo:

I used journaling cards to mat my photo, and then added Christmas Toys and Winter Page Dangles chipboard pieces. I embossed the bauble with Icicle and the heart dangle with Pretty in Pink and Golden Bricks eps.

Here's a little trick: if you heat up the Sea Mist powder a little longer, the colour gets pushed off the edges and a white core begins to show - and you get a nice double tone effect on your piece :-) That's what I did with the Holiday Vine piece, and then added a couple of crystals for some bling. I also used epoxy crystal stickers to make some custom buttons using images from the Tree Trimmings:

I only needed to add the flower cluster with Christmas Blooms and jingle bells :-)

Joy:
Papers: Vintage Christmas 2: Jolly, Tree Trimmings, Twas the Night, Holiday Cards
Chipboard: Holiday Vine, Tree Toys, Winter Page Dangles, Chunky Words
Flowers: Christmas Blooms
EP: Sea Mist, Icicle, In the Pink, Golden Bricks

BFS papers are great for cardmaking too! And here are Christmas cards I made using the Vintage Christmas 2 papers:

Each card features a chipboard piece. Here are the baubles from the Tree Toys set, embossed with 14 Karat ep and matted with mint paper pieces:

In this card I used the Dangled Flake as a frame for the stamped sentiment. The chipboard piece is embossed with Icicle and decorated with small flowers:

And this card presents the gorgeous Frosty Flake piece that I embossed with my custom-made mint tinsel (Icicle, Snow and Sea Mist mixture):

Christmas Cards:
Papers: Vintage Christmas 2: Jolly, Holiday Treats, Holiday Cards, Let It Snow, Twas the Night
Chipboard: Dangled Flake, Tree Toys, Frosty Flake
Flowers: Christmas Blooms
EP: 14 Karat, Icicle, Icicle+Snow+Sea Mist

And finally the layout for which I returned to the original Vintage Christmas collection:

I knew I would want to use the Magical sheet for the layout background the moment I opened the DT box :-)) It's so easy to build up a design with it, I didn't even feel the need to use other papers, just matted the photos with two sides of the Deck the Halls sheet.

For the title I used the Holly Jolly Christmas piece painted with white gesso:

I used two Winter Page Dangles to create a vertical divider on the page. I embossed the star with Ginger and the snowflake with Frozen eps. Then I added some Christmas Blooms, die cut snowflakes and crystal twogs to decorate the photos:

It's a Holly Jolly Christmas:
Papers: Vintage Christmas: Magical, Deck the Halls
Chipboard: Holly Jolly Christmas, Winter Page Dangles
Flowers: Christmas Blooms
EP: Frozen, Ginger

And now it's time to say good bye, as my term on the Blue Fern Studios DT comes to an end. It's been an honour and privilege to work with these great products and share my projects here with you. Thank you, BFS, for this opportunity, and thank you, dear blog visitors, for your visits and comments. See you around!

Three times mixed media with Attic Charm by Wilma Voermans.

For this layout I used the monthly sketch which you will find here.
Orange is a favorite color for me, to use in vintage aswell as modern layouts.
This picture shows my daughter ready for travelling on the station.
The whole scene gave me a vintage feeling. I love that picture.
My starting point was the KEY paper (B-side).
I use mostly B-sides of papers, no intention, I just like them better ..

The sketch ( I turned it)

For the orange color I  used beads

I colored the white daisies with the orange heart with paint and gesso.
Afterwards I felled sorry for this, because 1 week later my son married.
And what had the bride in her bouquet??? White daisies with a orange heart !
And my beautiful white ones are used....

The lamppost is grunged up with embossing , gesso and paint.
To mimic the brigthness where the lightsource comes from I used golden paint ,
over golden embossing
*******

Second layout is also based on the June sketch.....
It was supposed to be  masculine, since I used a photo from one of my sons.
But there is a difference for me  between very masculine pictures for example in black and white.
This picture is in soft colors , so I did not overdo the masculine theme.

I started with the Sachet paper ( B-side)  out of the Attic charm collection.
My favorit without a doubt..
Colored the background with pastels and water., but left the beautiful pattern to show through.
In the background there are a few soft flowers that I covered up with gesso and my photocluster.
With a black perlpen, I draw random figures.
Than with a mask some greyish/blue inking.

The chipboard is a frame piece ,  one of the clipboard set.
I cut it up, used one as my love you title and the rest here and there over the layout.
I made a mix from nutmeg and oatmeal powder.
The color gets less intensive because of the oatmeal.
Tip for summerlayouts: Oatmeal is super for beachthemes!

The titel is just inked up with black drawing ink

*******

My last layout for today is also in green/orange  Like the first one.
It just came out this way :)
Although the orange is not that obvious like the first layout.

The start of the layout was on the beautiful Generation paper (Yes, again the B-side).
Starting off with two colors orange ink.  (offcourse first clear gesso )
Random heavy gesso, and than different shades of green embossing sprinkled over the background.
I have many many colors Blue Fern Studios embossing powder.
It is  such a luxury to pick the colors out of the whole range.
Here I used verdant and Lime..
Heatset it.
Than with a foliage stencil again heavy gesso.

The chipboard pieces I used are all embossed with pearl embossing powder.
Flourish, winter page dangle and title.

Thanks for visiting the blog,
I hope you liked my post.
