The beauty of raw chipboard

Hi ya!

I often hear less advanced scrappers say how much they would love to use chipboard on their pages, but that they are a tad afraid of doing that because they think it takes a lot of difficult techniques to make them look good.

The 3 pages I am going to share with you today, show how easily chipboards can be tailored to suit those who are still experimenting with techniques.

My first page is kept in a muted shabby style and the chipboards I have used have been dressed to reflect the same.

The Art Nouveau Frame was painted, misted and chalked in many different hues of alabaster, cream, peach, marigold, orange and brown to blend in with the other details of the page.

The Country Picket Fence was randomly and unevenly primed with gesso before misted. Look how weather beaten it looks! I just love when the raw chipboard peeks out.

Chalk is a quick and easy way of achieving any colour effects you want.

The next page also shows quick touches to colour match your chipboard with the colour scheme of your page.

The Calligraphic Border was cut in smaller sections and painted in a couple of different layers of pink. Cutting up pieces make them last longer and can be used on several layouts.

The Fancy Fob Watch had the same treatment as the Calligraphic Border. The chain that belongs to the Watch will be used on another layout.

My last page shows again how beautiful peeks of raw chipboard can be.

The Princess Window was not even primed before I just randomly swiped paint over it and then added a dab or two of gesso. The Royal Border - Large got the same treatment. Look how wonderfully their shape stand out.

Black and White

Hi!
I am here to share two new layouts with you. I have used some yummy Blue Fern Studios chipboards. Both layouts are based on black and white with a colour accent. I have altered the chipboards for both layouts in the same way, except for the black swirls.

For my first layout I have used the Organic Vine Corner and the Damask Flourish. I have divided both of them into two pieces. I have also used a heart from the Heart Set. The Damask Flourish pieces are just painted in black acrylic painting. The other pieces are first painted in white, then stamped on with black ink and then covered in glossy accent.

Secondly, I have made this layout using the Blooming Foliage divided into two pieces and one of the Gabrielle Butterflies. All of the Blue Fern Studios chipboards are first painted in white, then stamped on with black ink and then covered in glossy accent.

Do It Your Way With Blue Fern Studios

Hello dear friends!
Svetlana is here today to share with you this month's portion of Blue Fern Studios goodness from me.
I think you already got an idea that BFS chipboard can be used in any type of projects created in any style you want it to be. Here is just another couple of examples of it.
My first project is a bright and colorful layout. I was inspired by the "adorable" sentiment from Good Vibes pack.
To me "adorable" most of the time has something to do with a baby.
After deciding on this sentiment for the title of my project I pulled out this adorable photo of my then very small baby-boy and the creative process began! :-)

I roughly applied red acrylic pain with a dabber to Country Picket Fence chipboard.
I left some areas raw to give it more authentic county feel.
Once the paint was dry I stamped with wood grain stamp all over the fence.

I also used acrylic craft paint to cover the title piece. First I applied the white paint with a dabber.
Once dry I added blue paint over it leaving some areas white.

My next project is a romantic mixed media canvas.
I used a lot of layers of different mediums to create the background and to decorate mt chipboard.

I already used some parts from this Blooming Foliage piece for my another project and I still had a pretty big piece left so I used it here.
To decorate it I applied a few layers of different mediums.
I began with some gesso. I covered my chipboard very roughly leaving some areas raw.
Then a dabbed it with bright green acrylic paint.
Again it was done a a rough way to leave some areas uncovered.
I followed with blue liquid pearls. I would squeeze a little at some spots and rub it with my fingers.
Liquid pearls are great for adding some color and shimmer as well.
A few drops of pick liquid pearls here and there finished my chipboard piece off pretty well.

The Sweetheart Dressform was first covered with gesso.
I really like the idea of letting some raw chipboard picking through all the paint.
Once it was dry I stamped all over with some pretty script stamp.
I followed with a little bit of distress inks here and there and a little rub of blue liquid pearls.
I finished it off with a layer of transparent crackle paint.

Two Layouts From Kelly

Hi Blue Fern fans! Kelly here today with a couple of layouts to share.

"Be-You(tiful)

I have used a few pieces of BFS chipboard, starting with the Twiggy Branch - Large, which I grounded my large flower cluster with. I think it makes for an interesting texture and reinforces the rugged/outdoors feel of the layout. This piece was simply dabbed with gesso, then given a few coats of brown glimmermist.

Below, I have used half of the little fram from the Second Hand Furnishings set, this was painted first with gesso, then a coat of silver ink, then brushed with a brown chalk ink.

Below is the other half of the frame, which was embossed with a chunky black embossing powder, then dabbed a bit with gesso.

Last little detail, I tucked in one of the Symphony Corners, this was treated the same as the first half of the frame above. These little corner pieces are the perfect shape for tucking into a cluster or in this case, a torn opening.

"Cute Stuff"
This next one, I kept a bit more simple, but still full of color and wonderful detail added just by incorporating a couple pieces of chipboard.

Above, you can see the "Cute Stuff" title from the Good Vibes set. I coated the words in a dimensional paint. You can also see the smaller of the two Craftsman Frames, which was embossed in a pearl blue color, then rubbed a bit with various vibrant colored inks.

Above, I have cut off a segment of the larger of the two frames, and applied the same techniques as I did the smaller one.
